23.01.2022 Luise, one of our MS Peer Support volunteers, describes in this video a practical way to look after your emotional and mental health - by talking to others. It is incredibly important at this time to continue our social connections, even in an online setting, so we know we are not alone and that there are others who are going through the same things. Peer Support doesn't have to be in a group setting either. We connect many people with similar interest of life experiences for 1:1 sessions over the phone so you can feel safe to talk in a confidential way. If this is something you would like to try contact us to find out more.
22.01.2022 Save the date! This time next week join us for a Facebook Live 'Talking to your employer about MS' with Liz Stenhouse, from our MS Employment Support Service and MS Ambassador Tim Ryan. Tim will share his personal experiences about disclosing his MS to his employers and what practical things have helped him along the way. If you are living with MS and working, or looking to find a job - you don't want to miss this. See our events page or find out more here ----> https://fb.me/e/1mKKaI1h9
21.01.2022 Nichole was just 19 when she was diagnosed with MS. When she reached her early 30s and the disease stole her blossoming career, our MS Peer Support service helped give her the strength to go on. MS Peer Support brings people who are living with MS together, to comfort, support and care for one another. It is the only service of its kind in Australia, and right now more and more people are turning to it. That’s why we are working hard to train 20 new Peer Support peers in the... weeks ahead, and why we need donations to help fight the epidemic of loneliness sweeping through the community. No one should be left alone to cope with multiple sclerosis during this difficult time. By donating, you are helping to provide this valuable support: https://bit.ly/2Gk1qEu

20.01.2022 One of our ambassadors, Dr Lydia Osmers shared her story of what it has been like living in a nursing home during COVID-19 to SBS. "As a former doctor, I have found this pandemic to be fascinating and frustrating. And tragic, obviously. Super interesting medically. I wish that I was working and helping the community at this time. All I can do is watch this pandemic be managed by other people on TV. I feel frustrated that I can’t help in this battle. I loved being a doctor. I love helping people." Read the full article below
18.01.2022 To disclose or not to disclose. That is the question. If you have any questions about disclosure of your MS or would like some advice and support - you can contact us Monday - Friday, 8am - 6pm for a confidential discussion on 1800 042 138.

04.01.2022 Matthew is one of 25 MS Go for Gold Scholarship recipients this year and his dream is to not only expand his woodworking business but to utilise his woodworking craft to bond with his children. Woodworking fills a huge hole in my life. I can't kick a football in the park with my kids, however we can bond together through fun creative experiences in our workshop. Matthew experiences fatigue and spasticity in his hands, which can make the process of woodworking frustrating ...and exhausting. The MS Go for Gold Scholarship will help Matthew to purchase new tools to help make woodworking a more accessible process. I would love to gain a sense of pride of building projects such as a coffee table, chopping boards, drink coasters etc that I could not only display in my own home but also gift to friends and family and those who have made such a positive impact upon my life since my MS diagnosis. My woodwork allows me to feel like I am still able to contribute something. It also allows me to let my children see that just because my MS is trying to win the battle, I won’t give up and will continue to try to enjoy what I love. Congratulations Matthew and to all of this years' MS Go for Gold Scholarship recipients. You can read all the recipient stories on our website - see Linktree in our bio

01.01.2022 Meet Luke, who is a previous contributor and prize winner in the MS Art Show Luke describes his art experience by saying I find that the more you get into it the more you want to do it. Artwork explains, describes so much how you feel. You can express yourself in different ways and artwork allows you to do that. The first year that I participated in an exhibition here, I won first prize. And I didn’t expect to win. I mean I didn’t enter it to win, but it’s good to get that ...recognition from your peers and that kept me going." The MS Virtual Art Show is now open for submissions and closes October 6. This years theme is Celebrating resilience through art and there are prizes available. To find out more head to www.ms.org.au/ms-art-show
