24.01.2022 We hope these links for spiritual nourishment help keep your soul warm and give a sense of unity as we journey to the end of term. 1. FOR REFLECTION This week our world community is celebrating World Unity Week (20-27 June - worldunityweek.org/about). Our St Mary MacKillop often wrote to the Sisters about the importance of being united. Here are some things she wrote:... I want, first, to find you in peace and unity. 26.4.1873 In our unity under God lies our strength. 10.8.1874 Great is the strength we possess in our unity. 30.9.1874 May the spirit of unity and love reign among us. 12.9.1884 1A. 22.01.2022 Happy Fri-Yay everyone. We hope this prayer from our friend St Teresa may bring us all some much needed peace! - May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.... May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. #teresaofavila #msjfaith #msjcommunity #msjgirlscandoanything #msjgratitude

21.01.2022 Welcome to the holidays everyone. As we begin our holidays we invite you to join with our entire community in remembering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic NATSICC has been forced to rethink how Catholics can be empowered to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday. The 2020 resources and mass can now connect our Catholic community in a digital setting. You might like to catch up on the latest from the plenary... council, try Centering prayer and give live yoga a go in the holidays (more info below). As we head off we would like to express our grateful to our entire community for your patience and presence this year. We are certainly travelling in a strange new time - we are all discovering our new normal together. We truly hope you all relax, sleep and enjoy the next two weeks. 21.01.2022 A few weeks ago you may have seen us in the local paper! Page 10 of the Canterbury Bankstown Torch. We are ecstatic to share our history and growth with our community as we reach such an important milestone. As mentioned in the article, 2020 has been a tricky year to celebrate our anniversary. As such, it is with further disappointment that we announce that the planned upcoming 60th Gala Dinner which has been rescheduled for the 11th of September is being further postponed. W...e are looking to a date early in 2021 (our 61st year) to ensure that when we do finally get a chance to celebrate we will be free to enjoy each others company in a safe and congenial manner. We would hope to inform you of the new date soon. If you have already arranged tickets and will not be available on the newly advertised date we will gladly organise a refund for the event. We look forward to celebrating with you all. #msjm60 #msjCommunity #msjEvent

21.01.2022 Year 9 camp conquered heights, adventured in water, improved their teamwork skills and lots more! What a wonderful time they had and so special to be able to spend together. #msjGirlsCanDoAnything

21.01.2022 We often call music learning a full body work out for the brain. Music learning helps to develop a wide range of executive functions, such as impulse control, attention, memory and creativity. In this great video by Sprouts on YouTube, Dr Anita Collins from "Bigger Better Brains" explains executive functions as Adult Skills. It also gives a great analogy, from Psychologist Deborah Phillips, of the brain being an air traffic control centre that would exist in pure chaos if ...it were not for executive functions. Youll understand why we often call music learning a full body work out for the brain, once you understand all the different roles executive functions play after watching this video. 21.01.2022 Zoom prayer for Sr Kath MSJ would like you invite all our community to connect via zoom to honour the life of Sr Kathleen Price who recently passed away. Sr Kath was at MSJ for many years and will be greatly missed. She was at MSJ as a student and as a member of staff. We welcome you to unite in grief and gratitude. If you would like to join the zoom prayer you can email the office for the link: [email protected]... Date: Thursday 3rd Sept. Time: 3.30pm May she Rest In Peace.

21.01.2022 If you guessed 1984 on this weeks staff photo, well done! This weeks yearbook showcases many examples of student work and creative skills. The second photo above shows a reflection from a student completing their first exam. As our current year 12 girls come to the half way point in their HSC trials, its important we acknoledge their courage and all the hard work they are putting in. We are sure the exams were a little different back in 1984 however the stress and nerves a...re still relatable. The strength of turning those feelings quickly into perseverance and determination just as this beautiful piece has, just goes to show that MSJ girls can do anything. On the staff page in this year book the words drawn across the bottom read- ...each day is a plain page where I can write life... No day begins much better than the others, but some are much more beautifully written on by the time evening comes. During these challenging times we hope we can all write the next page more beautifully than the last with the perserverance our girls show us every day and the knowledge that all in the end will be well. 19.01.2022 Our year 12 girls received a special message from an MSJ alumni during their graduation. Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, shared a little bit about her journey during her senior years at MSJ. Year 12, with the energy and commitment you have shown to do your best throughout your final year, we are certain MSJ girls can do anything. #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjmalumni #msjImagine #msjCommunity

19.01.2022 Welcome to episode #11. In this episode we journey through the 2007 and onto 2020 with our current Vietnamese Liaison Sr Catherine Trinh. She is honest with us about a tough time she experienced through the transition to Sydney Catholic Schools taking over ownership of MSJ. We hear about loss, but also the new life and how she feels that we are all called to live out the promise we receive at Baptism. Hear her hopes for the future and some wisdom from her life. She also leave...s us with some wise words: You can take her out of MSJ, but you cannot take MSJ out of her!" "Try your best and leave the rest to God." This episode is also the last in our series. We are very grateful to all our staff over the years, our students, families and of certainly all of our Sisters. We wish we could have interviewed more people, but we hope you enjoy and keep enjoying what we have been able to share! Watch Episode 11: https://youtu.be/SerXx0UYr9g Find all the episodes on our YouTube channel on the Sisters of MSJ playlist; YouTube.com/c/msjLight This special series we are calling Sisters of MSJ tells the story of 60 years of Josephite education at MSJ through the hearts of our Sisters. We are releasing the episodes as an act of gratitude for all that we have been gifted over the past 60 years. We hope truly hope that these videos connect and inspire us (especially at this time of physical distancing). May we walk together into the future in faith #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjFaith #msjm60 #msjImagine

18.01.2022 We hope this weeks links for spiritual nourishment feed our MSJ souls amidst all that is happening in the world 1. FOR REFLECTION: This year will be Australias first-ever digital Refugee Week(June 14 - June 20th ). As a Josephite school, social justice and inclusion is certainly at the heartbeat of our faith. This years theme is - celebrating the year of welcome. There are some things you can do each day to walk in solidarity with those that find themselves living as re...fugees. View the digital entertainment program: https://www.refugeeweek.org.au/official-events/ Resources for unlearning and transforming racism: https://gratefulness.org//resources-for-unlearning-and-tr/ 2. FROM POPE FRANCIS THIS WEEK: This past week Pope Francis sent a video message to a #ScholasOccurrentes cyber meeting, reminding us that education must help people discover meaning for their lives. Education is not just about knowing things, said the Pope. Rather, to educate is to listen, to create culture and to celebrate. He stressed that if education is unable to listen, create, and celebrate, it cannot educate. https://www.vaticannews.va//pope-francis-sends-message-of- 3. SISTERS OF MSJ: Have you watched the new episode #10 that was released yesterday? In this episode we journey through the 1960s, the 1990s and onto 2013 with Sr Kathleen Price. Sr Kathleen was a student in the 1960s and came back to MSJ (1996 - 2013) to help with learning support. Hear a funny story about what a Sister said to her as a student, what she prayed for, what was really important then, her hopes for the future and some lessons from her life. Episode 10: https://youtu.be/yZAd6-J4cW0 Find all episodes on the Sisters of MSJ playlist: YouTube.com/c/msjLight 4. ONLINE MASS: If you are going to mass in person or online this website is a wonderful resource for getting background on our weekly readings. Having the context behind the readings can really help us to listen from our hearts. After all, that is were our God lives: https://litedliturgybrisbane.weebly.com/sunday-readings-at- 5. WAYS TO PRAY: 5A. The Blessing Australia (7min): 300 local churches united together in Australia to sing a blessing over our nation. This is the first time this has happened. Get your tissues ready and push play: https://youtu.be/OOt7baaVSbE 5B. This Sunday is known as Corpus Christi (the body and blood of Christ). Perhaps take 4 minutes to watch this video (put together by a Josephite Sisters in QLD) reflecting on where and how the body and blood of Christ lives in our world? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HamxK0dsFGI&feature=youtu.be #msjGratitude #msjFaith #msjCommunity #msjm60 #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #RefugeeWeek2020 #RefugeeWeek

18.01.2022 Guess the year! With just over a month until we commemorate 60 years of MSJ, we are excited to travel back to the 70s this week. Here is one of our wonderful staff photos from the 70s. Do you remember what year this was taken? Have a guess and comment below.... Keep an eye out for our yearbook cover that was created the same year. #msjm60 #msjCommunity #msjEvent

18.01.2022 Early in the year our high achievers from 2019 came in for a visit and shared their year 12 experience with us. Their insight was invaluable. They spoke about the different strategies they used and shared helpful tips on how they journeyed through the hardest yet most exciting year of school. Our girls teach us and eachother many things every day. We hope that these little snippets can help us understand what they are going through, how we can all support them and possibly so...mething our girls can give a try if they are feeling stuck or in need of a change. As our current Year 12 students prepare for their HSC trials this week, let us unite as a community in support of our MSJ girls. May you shine brightly while trusting in yourselves, just as we trust in you. #msjgirlslifehacks #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjmResults

14.01.2022 In term 1 our year 12 VET students undertook their first aid training as part of their Hospitality and Entertainment courses. A big thank you to Mary and Sue from @firstaidforyou for coming into the school and making the day so fun and educational for the girls. They turned a tough day into a fantastic learning experience. Congratulations to the year 12 vocational education students who are one step closer to completing their certifications. #MSJgirlscandoanything #msjIncursion #msjgratitude #msjmResults @ Mount St Joseph High School

14.01.2022 This Sunday 30th August is a day when we as church especially honour the day as Social Justice Sunday. This year the focus is on Mental health. Our parishes, organisations and communities can be places of acceptance, care and healing. Not places of rejection, judgment or stigma. The Australian Catholic Bishops invite us all to reject stigmatisation, to work for the transformation of social determinants of mental ill-health, and to call for policies and service provision tha...t meets the needs of the poorest and most marginalised members of our community. Watch a short video, download a prayer card and other resources here: http://bit.ly/SocialJustice_2020 Together we can heal with love. #msjFaith #msjCommunity #msjSocialJustice #msjGirlsCanDoAnything @ Mount St Joseph High School

13.01.2022 Today we celebrate our teachers! Over this incredible year, our teachers have shown us just how adaptable they can be, stepped up to develop their skills a great deal and continued to support our girls during what has been a challenging time for everyone. We thank you for all your extra time outside of the classroom, the time you have given up with your families to support our girls, and for bouncing back with positivity when things haven't gone as planned or changed at the ...last minute. You have truly gone above and beyond this year. We can not thank you enough. Happy World Teacher’s Day. #msjGratitude #WTD2020 #msjCommunity #teachersday

13.01.2022 Our Year 9 art girls have just begun painting a mural in the music corridor. Another excellent way the changes this year have allowed our brilliant teachers to integrate exciting projects into their programs that involve a entire class. The girls worked closely with the music staff, did their research and created a plan prior to commencing the large scale piece. We can't wait to see it when its complete! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjCAPA #msjImagine

12.01.2022 As we move into Day 3 of the HSC tomorrow, the pressure the "first big exam" has hopefully eased some of those nerves. Let us be guided by St Mary Mackillop and take fresh courage throughout this journey. We are keeping you in our prayers. We believe in you. You got this!... #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjGratitude #msjFaith

12.01.2022 Yesterday was Remembrance Day. Although we were unable to have a ceremony altogether, we paused as a community to remember those who have served and continue to protect our country. Lest We forget. #msjCommunity #msjGratitude

12.01.2022 Congratulations Tenison! 2021 athletics carnival champions! This is their second trophy for the year after also taking out the swimming carnival. Fantastic to see everyone participating and supporting each other on the day. #whatrain #msjsports #msjevents @sydcatholicschools

12.01.2022 Term 3 is well on its way and we are blown away with the spectacular entries we received from our girls for our Young Archies competition! The Young Archies is a competition run by the Art Gallery of New South Wales alongside the Archibald Prize each year. Young people up to the age of 18 are invited to enter a portrait of someone who is significant in their life, created using any traditional 2 dimensional media. This year, MSJ ran an internal competition in order to narrow down the finalists we would enter to the big prize. Students from Year 7 to 11 entered the MSJ competition and its clear the judges had a tough job on their hands. #msjCAPA #msjgirlscandoanything #msjImagine @ Mount St Joseph High School

12.01.2022 A warm welcome to term 4! We are excited to paint the term with lots of colour and fill it with energy. Starting a new term can feel like being given a new canvas. You get to create your painting and the painting you create will express your journey. At the end of last term, Gabrielle in year 12 wrote the following as her message to the MSJ community- The most reliable way to predict the future is... TO CREATE IT! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjCommunity

12.01.2022 Our year 10 Design and Technology girls finished the year by soldering together mini LED Christmas trees. A great way to have fun with their STEM skills to make a final project before the holidays. #msjTAS #msjSTEM #msjGirlsCanDoAnything

10.01.2022 If you guessed 1977 on this weeks staff photo, well done! This weeks yearbook showcases the vibrant and lively spirits of the girls at MSJ! The yearbook has just 5 pages of writing and the remaining 51 pages are full of spectacular photographs. The enthusiasm, movement and creativity you can see in the girls is expressed throughout the entire collection. The photos above show some of the many activities the girls were involved in during the 70s. Some of these included swim...ming, cross country, netball, hockey, cricket, volleyball, softball, gymnastics, fashion parades, print making, Catholic School Textile and Design fashion parades and art exhibitions. Many of which they still do today. Our girls at MSJ have passed on this flame of enthusiasm throughout the years and we are energised by their presence every day! #msjm60 #msjCommunity #msjEvent @ Mount St Joseph High School

10.01.2022 If you guessed 1968 on this weeks staff photo, well done! This weeks yearbook showcases the 1968 student council! Student voice has always been an important part of MSJ. The second photo above shows them working on the task of drawing up a constitution for the school. Mediating between the staff and student body, and in reflection on Vatican II documents, they helped to shape the early goals of our young school: To establish MSJ as an intrinsic part of the community, to ...be as the documents suggest ""a centre whose operation and progress deserve to engage the joint participation of families, teachers, various kinds of cultural, civic and religious groups, civil society and the entire human community."" If we, the students of M.S.J can achieve such a goal, our school will not only be an active organ of society but a group of young people who are being trained to become citizens, not passively but very much involved with the world we live in. It is so beautiful to see how far MSJ has come over 60 years and despite how much has changed, this goal is still at the heart of our school and very relevant to our whole community. #msjm60 #msjCommunity #msjEvent

10.01.2022 Year 8 recently had their annual Medieval Day. They participated in interactive activities that developed their understanding of the Medieval Europe component of the History course. These activities included a Medieval weapons show and an arts and crafts activity. #msjgirlscandoanything msjHSIE #msjincursion @sydcatholicschools

10.01.2022 As the 2020 HSC exams have begun, here are a few things to keep in mind from our lovely 2019 high achievers. We are here with you every step of the way. Wishing all our girls the very best! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjgirlslifehacks #msjImagine

10.01.2022 Guess the year! In four weeks we commemorate 60 years of MSJ but this week we are remembering the extreme 80s. Big hair, the emerging punk rock and rap music scene, singers such as Whitney Houston and Prince, movies including The Breakfast Club and Back To The Future and the release of the timeless rubiks cube. Here is one of our staff photos from the 80s. Do you remember what year this was taken in? Have a guess and comment below.... Keep an eye out for our yearbook cover that was created the same year. #msjm60 #msjCommunity #msjEvent

10.01.2022 Lots of excitment and cheering in Year 12 homeroom (Tenison A02) as they won the Assembly Kahoot. Although we cant gather in large groups, the online connection across the school is spectacular! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjCommunity

09.01.2022 Year 7 Visual Arts are back into practical lessons! They have been learning the art form of ceramics and making their Totem Pole, that represent their favourite place. #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjCAPA @ Mount St Joseph High School

09.01.2022 Recently our Yr 10 PASS students had Rick from the Wheelchair Roadshow attend the school to give them an opportunity to play wheelchair basketball and AFL. The girls had a great time, and were able to gain a better understanding of how sports are adapted to better suit the needs of specific groups in society. #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjPDHPE

08.01.2022 As part of last weeks National Science Week, our Year 10 girls took on the science egg drop challenge. The girls were challenged to engineer a safety device which could protect a raw egg from being damaged after being dropped from a height of over 5 metres. The device needed to be constructed of lightweight, everyday materials which would reduce the impact on the egg. We think they did an eggcellent job!... #msjSTEM @ Mount St Joseph High School

08.01.2022 This Saturday 8 August is the Feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop and today MSJ celebrated Mary MacKillop Day. Traditionally this day is a significant one on our school calendar and we had anticipated that the Sisters of St. Joseph, families and representatives of Sydney Catholic Schools would join us for our mass. With just a few adjustments to ensure we aligned with our current health restrictions we were fortunate enough to still recognise this special day. We live st...reamed the mass to all students in their home room classes and to our families at home. In this short video from our celebration, our captain Mikaela reminds us how The Sisters of St. Joseph and St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop navigated any challenge. We hope these special words help you overcome any challenge you may be facing today remembering that all in the end will be well. We are very grateful to our staff that organised the mass and to all who contributed and participated. A special thank you to everyone who helped to make the day so special, including our Sisters of St Joseph, musicians, teachers, IT staff and especially our entertainment crew! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjCommunity #msjFaith #msjImagine #msjGratitude

08.01.2022 Each year we celebrate Peru day at MSJ, as part of honouring our wider community. MSJ has a long history of involvement that honours the memory of Sr Irene McCormack and raises much needed money towards work associated with the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Peru. This years event commenced with a liturgy that was followed by a very colourful chalk colour run and musical performances by students and staff. We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed the day. #msjPeruDay #msjCommunity #msjFaith #msjEvent #msjGirlsCanDoAnything

06.01.2022 During our special visit from our 2019 high achievers, our girls shared with us how those closest to us can be the best support during their final year of school. We are sure there are lots of ways we could be helpful for our girls, perhaps a quick check in, or a simple What can I do to help could be exactly what they need. Whilst Year 12 continue preparations for their HSC trials this week, let us take a moment and say a prayer for our girls.... #msjgirlslifehacks #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjmResults

06.01.2022 This week we held our Leadership Ceremony in our beautiful chapel that was zoomed to all our girls in their classrooms. 05.01.2022 Welcome to episode #10. In this episode we journey through the 1960s, the 1990s and onto 2013 with Sr Kathleen Price. She gives a unique perspective on her time at MSJ. Sr Kathleen was a student in the 1960s and came back to MSJ (1996 - 2013) to help with learning support. Hear a funny story about what a Sister said to her as a student, what she prayed for, what was really important then, her hopes for the future and some lessons from her life. She also leaves us with some wi...se words: Be the best citizen of the world that you can be..." "No matter how long or how short, you be good." 05.01.2022 Throughout 2020 students and staff at MSJ have taken part in a ""Virtual Choir"" to perform The Person Next To Us - a song about togetherness and caring for our neighbours. Despite the difficulties of this year it has been a blessing to connect with one another through music and we hope our wider MSJ community enjoys this project as much as we enjoyed making it. #msjCommunity #msjGratitude #msjGirlsCanDoAnything

During the mass our girls took part in the Liturgy of Light Ceremony. They lit their own individual candles to symbolise the time that they have spent at Mount St Joseph. They were also each given a special momento by Mrs Archer to thank them for their uniqueness and contributions. We wish each of our girls success, happiness and faith as they continue their life’s journey. Congratulations class of 2020! #msjGirlsCanDoAnything #msjGratitude #msjCommunity #msjFaith

03.01.2022 This years first ever digital Australian Refugee Week (June 14 - June 20th) continues into this weekend. As a Josephite school, welcome, hospitality and justice are the heartbeat of our faith. And that certainly fits with the theme for this year (celebrating the year of welcome). Mary MacKillop wrote these words to Sister Josephine McMullen (about the situation of the South Sea Islanders working in Queensland in 1875): "Be kind to the poor foreigners. Remember I was a foreig...ner once, and as such was never laughed at or nor unkindly treated. 1. FOR REFLECTION: 1A. You are invited to walk in solidarity with people that find themselves living as refugees via the digital entertainment program: https://action.refugeecouncil.org.au/rw20_events?page=3 1B. Did you know that the Sydney Film Festival is online this year? It runs until the 21st. Perhaps rent the documentary called Rosemarys Way. Rosemary Kariuki goes to great lengths to ensure migrant women and their families are empowered and encouraged in their new communities. See how she is living her faith, doing what she can to help everyone feel welcome. Watch Rosemarys Way (until 21st June): https://ondemand.sff.org.au/film/rosemarys-way/ 2. She is honest with us about a tough time she experienced through the transition to Sydney Catholic Schools taking over ownership of MSJ. We hear about loss, but also the new life and how she feels that we are all called to live out our baptismal promise. Listen to her hopes for the future and some wisdom from her life. This episode is also the last in our series. We are very grateful to all our staff over the years, our students, families and of certainly all of our Sisters. We wish we could have interviewed more people, but we hope you enjoy what we have been able to share.
