25.01.2022 Today is World MS Day! It is a day that brings the global MS community together to celebrate solidarity and hope for the future. This international day also highlights the resilience of people living with MS and raises awareness about the condition and its invisible symptoms. Under the theme Connection to self, this year we will encourage the MS community to celebrate their resilience and focus on self-care and wellbeing. ... There are plenty of ways to get involved and today at 10:30 am MS Get Involved is hosting a Facebook Live on Mindfulness you can join. More information about how to get involved this year, head over to the MS Limited website: https://www.ms.org.au/get-involved/world-ms-day.aspx

25.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the amazing mums in our lives! My beautiful mum has MS and I don’t think I fully understood it until I got it myself." Meet Larissa..... She's already raised more than her initial fundraising goal amazing! And for Larissa, MS is personal. I’m in awe of all the participants coming together to raise money and raise awareness. It’s going to be a great day. It’s nice to know you’re not alone. I wanted to do something this year to join something meaningful, a fundraiser. I liked the option of the 4km walk, that way I wouldn’t be sore or tired. And, people have been so generous! Larissa has a personal connection to MS, as both Larissa and her mum live with multiple sclerosis, so that’s the driving force behind her desire to raise awareness and raise funds for MS. Read more about Larissa and her mum here: https://www.mswalk.org.au/larissas-story/

23.01.2022 Meet Kate.... For Kate, it started with numbness and coldness in her legs that went right down to her feet. After a week, she was numb from her belly button. Despite this, Kate could still walk fine and was not diagnosed until nearly a year had passed. When Kate started having sensory issues on the left side of her face, including pins and needles in her eye, tongue and lips, she was referred to a neurologist who diagnosed her with multiple sclerosis.... It takes a long time to get your head around the diagnosis of MS I think for me one of the most challenging aspects is accepting the things that I can’t change. Living with multiple sclerosis is a varied experience, and Kate finds it difficult to explain what it is like for her. With MS you have good and bad days, but even on your good days, it’s still there. MS never goes so I’ve felt the presence of MS every moment since I was diagnosed. It’s not always bad but it’s always there. In 2020 when the MS Walk Run + Roll was meant to take place, Kate, like many Melbournians, was in lockdown. On top of that, Kate felt pretty crappy from the sensory issues she had been experiencing in the lead up to the weekend. On the day of the MS Walk Run + Roll, Kate and her partner decided to walk in the local park. While they were walking, Kate saw a group of people in red MS t-shirts. The group were completing their MS Walk Run + Roll. This was a moment that stuck with Kate, because despite being strangers, she could feel the love and support from people she didn’t know. 21.01.2022 AFL star, Zach Merritt, knows a support network is essential to his success. The same is true for people living with multiple sclerosis, people like Zachs Mum, Cathy. As a family we have required support in a number of areas. The main support my mum has received from MS has been in-home carers who help complete tasks around the house including cooking, cleaning, and general support. Also, carers provided transport for my Mum to health appointments and grocery shopping, as ...Dad worked full time, says Zach. The support provided through MS Services, gave Cathy and her family the assistance she needs to help her to live well. In the absence of support networks, people living with multiple sclerosis, their friends, family, and carers are able to make a connection through our MS Peer Support program, either in a one-on-one or group setting, typically over the phone or online. By taking part and fundraising in events like the MS Walk Run + Roll youll be helping to fund programs like MS Peer Support. Read more about Zach and Cathy on the MS Walk Run + Roll website: https://www.mswalk.org.au/news/zachs-story

20.01.2022 Meet Gurdeep, Late last year, Gurdeep from Melbourne was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Thanks to MS Connect, just one week after his diagnosis, Gurdeep was linked in with Matt, an MS Peer Support Volunteer, who has lived with the challenges of multiple sclerosis for 17 years. Matt lives in NSW, but each week they connect by phone. They talk about the different challenges Gurdeep may be experiencing, from symptoms to navigating the NDIS or just having a chat. Their relat...ionship has ensured that Gurdeep does not face the challenges of MS alone. Matt has been providing Peer Support for over three years and is also an MS Ambassador. He facilitates a monthly Telegroup for men with MS living in NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania, as well as providing one to one Peer Support for people that have been newly diagnosed or are further along their MS journey. Matt also mentors other MS Peer Support Volunteers. Its a great opportunity to share my own experiences, and to understand the MS challenges that others have to live with no two MS journeys are the same! As an invisible disease, some might say Im not faking being sick, Im faking being well. Often, its hard for others to know the impact MS has. Thats why MS Peer Support is so important, especially for people who are geographically or socially isolated, says Matt. 13.01.2022 Lately, we have all been adapting to changes like practising social distancing, working from home, and relying on video calls to check in with loved ones to see how they are doing. At MS, we've checked in with Rania, an MS Ambassador and good friend, to see how she is staying happy, healthy and connected during these challenging times. bit.ly/Ranias-story Rania was 19 years old when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, the most common chronic neurological disease expe...rienced by young Australians. Her symptoms migraines, dizziness and numbness first appeared while Rania was studying her Bachelor of Communications and Public Relations degree at Monash University, but she lived many years in denial. When she was first diagnosed, Rania didn't cry for herself but instead reached to comfort her mother, who now had two daughters diagnosed with this invisible illness. Rania has been using MS Services for a few years now, and while each relapse is challenging, she continues to find strength and wisdom on her journey. You can read more about how Rania is staying connected, happy and healthy: bit.ly/Ranias-story

13.01.2022 Meet Josh, I was a professional basketball player until my late 20s, after which I took what I learnt in my basketball career and dove into a successful corporate career in sales and marketing. I had it all figured out. Or so I thought! ... It was 2014 when Josh moved into a new home. He attempted to piece together a desk on a warm Sunday, thinking as this was an uncomplicated construction, he would be done in 20 minutes. Three hours later, he was still sitting on the floor, exhausted, unable to stand, overheated and numb. His new desk was 99% constructed. After resting, he attempted a 50-metre walk and fell. Unbeknownst to me, MS had decided it was time to fully introduce itself into my world, said Josh. In March 2015 at the age of 36, Josh was officially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. When he looks back, he had experienced a trail of symptoms that came and went such as fatigue, numbness and loss of balance. Josh attributes the building of the desk as a beacon of hope he says, It reminds me that with persistence, hard work and a resilient attitude, I can own and manage my MS. Read more about josh's story and what MS services mean to those living with multiple sclerosis and the people close to them: https://www.mswalk.org.au/joshs-story
