24.01.2022 During Superhero Week we had some real life superheroes visit us! Police officers Katie and Brad parents of one of our Preschoolers. We discovered the role of a police officer and how they are there to help and protect us. We took a closer look at the different uniforms police officers wear and how we can identify them when we are out in the community. We spoke about calling 000 in the event of an emergency, which is a great conversation for parents to continue at home with your children. We love having family involvement at the Preschool and this was a great learning opportunity for the children.

23.01.2022 Community Connections This week the children have been learning about farming communities and the effect drought has on the land. During free play the children were provided with a variety of loose parts and farm animals. Extending on their knowledge from group time discussions, the children worked collaboratively to build a farming town which was in drought (represented by the brown material). The children were able to co-construct their learning and their discussions during play demonstrated a connection of empathy and care towards the farmers and the hardship farming communities face when in drought.

23.01.2022 Families and friends please share and spread the word - many thanks

23.01.2022 Our little fingers have been so busy! This week we are exploring Australian Animals. With Jo we made our very own echidnas using clay. Clay is a great resource in supporting the development of children’s fine motor skills. The children used their finger and hand muscles to pinch, squeeze and form the echidna shapes as well as piercing the clay with the spikes. Play with clay at home - the opportunities are endless!

22.01.2022 Dress Up Day - Best Fun Ever! We had a fun filled dress up day with so many interesting characters arriving at Preschool. We explored imagination and what it means, taking us to far away places just like authors do when writing stories for us to read. We are not sure who loved dressing up more, the children or the educators. Take a look at our lovely educators below....who do you think had more fun?

22.01.2022 Sensational Spring - how it s done!

22.01.2022 This week as we celebrated Book Week, we have seen the enjoyment on the children's faces as our stories have transported us to far away places, had us involved in fairy magic, taken us to the dream time, found friends in funny predicaments and opened our minds to the wonders of our natural world. All because of books. The children have enjoyed dressing as their favourite book characters and sharing their ideas about their favourite stories with their educators and their friends. Promote the joy of reading in your home and read a story with your child every day!

21.01.2022 Thank you, Early Childhood Educators Today, on Early Childhood Educators’ Day, we recognise the extraordinary contribution of educators. Our educators provide an incredibly important contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of our children. This year has been particularly challenging for the nation, but educators have continued to support our working families throughout this pandemic. We owe them a great deal of gratitude for their work. Today, and every other day, we thank our early childhood educators.

20.01.2022 We continue our exploration of life cycles. We have been lucky to have 6 chickens hatch so far. The children have loved watching this as they further their knowledge on the life cycle of chickens. The chickens stay in their incubator for 24 hours and are then moved to their larger incubator where they are provided with food, water and warmth. The children have been fascinated by the different colours and characteristics of the chickens, but by far our highlight is interacting and holding the chicks! Stay tuned for further updates on our new friends!

19.01.2022 We are now listed on North Shore Mums website - please drop by and provide a testimonial we would really appreciate it :)

19.01.2022 We have had so much fun exploring rhyme with Dr Seuss. The children have shown a keen interest in the concept of rhyme. We are furthering exploring rhyme, this week through Dr Seuss’ wonderful variety of books. Hearing and using rhyme helps children develop phonemic awareness and early literacy skills. This week the children also took part in a Cat In the Hat drawing class, safe to say our Preschooler's are fantastic artists!

18.01.2022 Thank you Kindifarm! We had Kindifarm visit today. The children had the opportunity to engage with a variety of animals. We fed the cows, sheep and goats. Cuddled the rabbits and guinea pigs. And patted the duck and pig! Farmer Joe taught us lots of facts about each animal and even showed us how to shear a sheep. Jason the sheep was very compliant, and we got to keep the wool! A great time was had by all.... what a fun hands on experience!

16.01.2022 The children have continued to explore rhyme this week with one of our other favourite authors Julia Donaldson. The children have had a fun time engaging with her stories and songs. The educators further scaffolded the children’s learning by creating imaginative play scenes with some of our favourite characters. What’s your favourite Julia Donaldson book?

14.01.2022 Preschool community please share this post - we are now enrolling for the start of 2021!

12.01.2022 Exploring Life Cycles: This week the children have been exploring the life cycle of a frog. We have tadpoles at Preschool which the children have been observing throughout the week. Some are at the earlier stage of their life cycle while others are beginning to develop back legs. The children have enjoyed discovering life cycles and have loved having the opportunity to connect with nature and engage with the life cycle of frogs. We can't wait for our chicken's next week.

12.01.2022 Fostering Independence! Tuck Shop Day gave a little insight to ‘big’ school for our children. They had the opportunity to develop autonomy as they made choices for their morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. We also supported the development of emerging mathematical skills as we paid for each item with the pretend money made by the children in the morning. The children loved this fun themed day and did a great job exploring their independence and decision making. What was your favourite purchase from the tuck shop when you were at school?

12.01.2022 Vacancies available for 2021 - please share :)

08.01.2022 Sensational Spring! The birds are singing and the bees are buzzing. The children helped create a beautiful Spring wall display using recycled bottles, paint and their wonderful creativity. It has created a tranquil visual in our quiet area.

07.01.2022 Next week is Superhero week at Preschool. Please feel free to support our efforts to help Bear Cottage a very worthy cause. https://www.superheroweek.com.au/fundr//mt-colah-preschool
