25.01.2022 Over the last few crazy months while our world has been under siege from bushfires and Covid 19, understandably our spare change and energy has been focused on our recovery. While times were tough, we took the opportunity to help those less fortunate than us. As you would all know, The Birthing Kit Foundation is very close to Dr Julie's heart and as production of these kits has been down because of all the other issues, we purchased the ingredients for the kits and made some up. If you, your friends or any of your sporting groups, etc are interested in helping out, please contact the surgery on 8391 0277 or use www.bkfa.org.au/get-involved/kitsathome/ The kits can be purchased for $5.00 each and start in packs of 40 kits. Its a simple, cheap, easy way to save the lives of many women and children in underprivileged countries.

25.01.2022 Here are our consulting hours over the festive season, rest assured we will be here if you need us. Stay safe and enjoy xx

25.01.2022 Once again, over the festive period, Mt Barker Dentists, together with Mt Barker Medical Clinic and Adelaide Hills Dental Laboratory are raising funds for a worthy cause. This year, after the devastating bushfires, we’re raising money for the CFS Foundation in SA. So come in and purchase a bauble for either $3 or $5 and hang it on our very bare Christmas tree in the foyer. All donations are tax deductible and going to a very worthy cause

25.01.2022 Mt Barker Dentists are excited to introduce everyone to our newest team member, Dr David Moore. David is a third generation dentist, following in the steps of both his father and grandfather. After graduating from Adelaide University nearly 30 years ago, David comes to us with a wealth of knowledge in all facets of dentistry and an ability to treat even the most anxious of patients. Appointments are available online via our website or here on Facebook, through Health Engine or simply by calling our friendly reception staff on 8391 0277

25.01.2022 Day 3 of Dental Health Week

25.01.2022 This is a scheme that we have participated in since it started...... if you are not sure if your children are covered, we can check for you, just give us a call 8391 0277

24.01.2022 Are you looking for a bargain??? Head on down to Hutt Street 24th/25th August to help out this very worthwhile cause.

24.01.2022 Hello everyone, We would like to give you our personal assurance that your wellbeing is very important to us. With the recent global reaction to COVID-19, we would like to give you some information about Mount Barker Dentists. MBD IS BUSINESS AS USUAL. MBD has always had universal infection control procedures and policies in our practice to keep you and the team safe from ANY infectious diseases. Our practice is thoroughly disinfected with hospital grade solutions as part ...of our everyday management of our dental practice. We ask all patients that if they have recently travelled overseas, have a temperature, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath, or come into direct contact with someone with COVID-19 please contact our staff via calling on 8391 0277. You MUST notify your doctor for a COVID-19 test. We apologise if this causes any inconvenience but your understanding is greatly appreciated. We ask that all patients use the hand sanitiser at the entrance as an extra precaution One of our concerns is that patients will panic and put off their dental treatment. Your dental health is a major part of maintaining a good immune system. Gingivitis alone has a huge negative impact on your overall health. Untreated decay/cracked teeth will lead to more/deeper cracks and eventually become a root canal infection. Untreated tooth infections will make you much more susceptible to contracting illnesses in general and the infection itself may spread. If you want to keep yourself in peak health, PLEASE KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENTS or call us to discuss any particular concerns. Our main concern is the health and wellbeing of our patients and our team. We are here to help in whatever way we can, so feel free to call us with ANY concerns you may have. At this stage we are business as usual. Kindest regards, Dr Steve Ivett, Dr Julie Monis-Ivett, Dr Jonathan Choong, Dr Amanda Waldock and all of our team See more

19.01.2022 For those of you with Private Health Insurance, you have probably received notification of their impending price rises. 18.01.2022 It's all over our TV's at the moment........Smile Direct Club giving you cheap, (unrealistic?), options for straightening your teeth with out needing to see an Orthodontist. Be careful, it's not all it's cracked up to be.

18.01.2022 You may already know certain health and lifestyle factors can affect a person’s risk of developing cavities. But do you know what these factors are? Here are so...me yes/no questions you can ask yourself to understand if you’re at a higher risk: 1. is your drinking water or toothpaste fluoride-free? 2. do you snack a lot, including on sweets? 3. do you avoid flossing? 4. do you brush your teeth less than twice a day? 5. do you visit your dentist for toothaches rather than check-ups? 6. do you need new fillings every time you visit the dentist? 7. is your dentist watching a lot of early cavities? 8. do you have to wear an appliance in your mouth such as a denture or braces? 9. do you suffer from a chronic long-term health condition such as diabetes? 10. do you suffer from a dry mouth? If you answered yes to most of these questions, you may need to make time to visit your dentist. If you are having trouble finding a dentist or a dental specialist near you, we can help! Our ‘Find a Dentist’ tool searches dentists in your area. Visit http://bit.ly/2BwQNK8 for more information.

14.01.2022 Are you a Lachlan Murphy fan? We are too! The Adelaide Crow is urging people who play contact sport to get a custom fitted mouthguard and make sure to wear it... after three teeth were dislodged from his jaw back in Round 13. Murphy says he wasn’t wearing his mouthguard when he was knocked by Hawk Dylan Grimes in the mouth. Thankfully, Murphy is smiling again now and you can protect your smile too see your dentist and have a custom mouthguard fitted. Don’t have a regular dentist? We can help find one near you! Visit http://bit.ly/2BwQNK8 And if you ever find yourself in a dental emergency, follow these tips to minimise long-term damage: 1. Locate the tooth as quickly as possible and handle it with care - always hold the tooth by the crown (top) and avoid touching the root. 2. If the tooth is dirty, clean it in milk. If milk is unavailable, rinse it in tap water but only for a second or two. DO NOT scrub the tooth or the root surface and avoid soaking it. 3. Try placing the tooth back in its socket - making sure it’s facing the right way round and in the right place. (If it's a baby tooth, don’t try to place it back in.) Once it’s in, gently bite down on a clean piece of soft cloth or tissue to help keep the tooth in place. 4. If the tooth is wobbly, fold a small piece of aluminium foil over the area to keep it in place. If you have a custom fitted mouthguard, put it into the mouth to stabilize the traumatized tooth. 5. If you can’t get the tooth back in, don’t force it. Keep the tooth moist at all times by storing it in a clean small container with a small amount (enough to cover the whole tooth) of milk or saliva. DO NOT place the tooth in water or wrap it in tissue or cloth as this will dry out the tooth and can reduce the chance of it reattaching. 6. Go to the dentist as soon as possible, ideally within 30 minutes. The sooner the tooth is replaced, the greater the likelihood it will survive.

14.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN Dear patients, In response to the COVID 19 pandemic the Australian Dental Association is now recommending that to ... limit patient movement and the spread of the coronavirus that dental treatment be restricted and where possible postponed. If, however, you have any pain, trauma, swelling, neuralgia or your medical health will be compromised if dental disease is left untreated e.g. you have diabetes, heart and lung disease, immunity issues or you have impending medical surgery - make an appointment. There are many pain and treatment situations in dentistry which we can still treat. Your individual case may need to be assessed. For clarification please contact our friendly staff or talk to one of our dentists. WE ARE HERE IF YOU NEED US Our normal infection control protocols are at the highest levels that protect our staff and patients from all infectious diseases including COVID 19. Our staff have completed the Infection Control Training certificate for COVID 19. Know that you are in safe hands and that we have implemented many extra precautions for your safety. Just a few are sanitising hands and phones on entry and exit, to social distancing in the waiting room and at reception, to antibacterial mouthwashes prior to treatment. Our treatment staff are routinely fully gloved and masked. If you are over 70 or have compromised health it is especially relevant to limit your movement. However, if you have any of the pain symptons or problems above, please contact us for clarification. Should you wish, there is also the option of waiting in your car until the dentist is ready for you and we will ring you to come straight in. The usual COVID 19 restrictions apply: If you have travelled recently overseas, have a temperature, cough or are unwell, or have been in contact with someone with confirmed COVID 19 then please reschedule and contact your doctor. Please know that your dental wellbeing is our first priority and we will be here to look after you. keep safe, Julie, Stephen, Amanda, Jonathan and the MBD team.

14.01.2022 Hello everyone, Thinking of everyone and hoping that you are all getting through these unprecedented times. The Australian Dental Association recommendations for dental treatment restrictions have been eased.... The Good News!!!! What this means for you??? Most routine dentistry can now be provided, including checkups, handscaling, restorations, dentures and if there are treatments we have not completed, we will be allowed to continue with these to prevent bigger issues from developing. Be assured that our additional high level COVID 19 protocols are being maintained. We are here to help in whatever way we can, so feel free to call us to clarify individual circumstances. 8381 0277 Should you have a temperature or COVID 19 symptoms we still ask you to reappoint and to contact your doctor. It has been a difficult time but we are coming through the other side to our new normal. 03.01.2022 Sadly, rates of tooth decay are on the rise in Australia - particularly among young children. We understand parents have a difficult job when it comes to preve...nting tooth decay in kids; with many confused when it comes to recommendations about brushing teeth, diet and when to see the dentist for a checkup. You dentist is best placed to answer any questions you have regarding your child’s teeth, based on their individual needs. But following the tips below can help establish healthy habits to last a lifetime Children should visit the dentist when their first tooth comes through, or at 12 months of age. Tooth decay develops over time and early decay can be hard to spot. Starting dental check-ups from 12 months will help identify any red flags and allow parents to make changes to diet and lifestyle. Children should brush their teeth twice daily to reduce their chance of tooth decay. Dentists recommend using a cloth to clean a baby’s gums from birth, moving onto a toothbrush with water when the first tooth erupts. A pea-sized amount of children’s strength toothpaste is recommended from 18 months of age. Children can use adult-strength toothpaste from the age of six. Parents should help children with brushing their teeth up to the age of eight to ensure it’s done properly. Most parents know consuming sugary food and drinks can contribute to tooth decay. But sugar-sweetened food and beverages aren't the only worry when it comes to teeth. In recent years, bottled water intake in kids has increased considerably, and half of parents think bottled water may be better for teeth than tap water. More than 90% of Australians have access to fluoridated tap water, which helps strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Unlike tap water, most bottled water in Australia contains very little fluoride, making it a less healthy choice for teeth. And don’t forget - the federal Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides eligible families with up to $1,000 worth of treatment over two years. This can be used for private as well as public dental services for children aged 2-17. All children in families receiving Parenting Payment or Family Tax Benefit Part A are eligible for the program. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/2FknUnp
