22.01.2022 Come fly with us....over our heritage museum and....WOW! Now you see the 12 buildings full of history and 6 acres of gardens. Stop for a visit and enjoy!

22.01.2022 We are very happy to announce ABC Great Southern radio are coming to our museum to do their breakfast and morning shows. Mark Tuesday 26th March in your diaries. Also Malcolm Traill from the Great Southern Museum will be doing his regular Tuesday curatorial. So why not come down to the museum on Albany Highway to say hello to the ABC team and Malcolm Traill. For a small fee you can enjoy the local Men's Shed food or morning tea provided by the Historical Society. We would love to see you there.

19.01.2022 This features many photos of the museum, but is just a taster of what you can find and see here.

19.01.2022 Come along and chat with the ABC Radio Great Southern team and Malcolm Traill from the Museum of the Great Southern who are broadcasting live in Mt Barker. Where and When? Details are on the flyer attached. Hope to see you there. Don't forget to bring a chair.

16.01.2022 What a wonderful morning we had here in the gardens of our museum. A good crowd turned up for Katie McCallister and Gianfranco Di Giovanni of the ABC Radio Great Southern as they presented a live broadcast of their breakfast and morning shows. This was followed by Malcolm Traill from the Museum of the Great Southern giving his regular Tuesday curatorial with our local historian Pam Sounness. While we listened to local guests being interviewed for all sorts of interesting stories the local Men's Shed and our team of volunteers at the Plantagenet Historical Society provided refreshments.

13.01.2022 WANTED FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY. As we don't have enough full-size mannequins our museum is unable to display all of its historic clothes. We are all volunteers and work from a tiny budget so if you know of anyone willing to donate, we would love to hear from you.

13.01.2022 Spring has arrived and the museum is back to opening 10am - 2pm Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays or by appointment for group bookings. The work of our volunteers continued through winter. There are new items on display in the museum and the gardens have come to life. Why not come along and check it out.

11.01.2022 Here are the Royal Gala Tour passengers relaxing over lunch after checking out the museum exhibits. By all accounts they all enjoyed the visit. Thanks Jay for the photos.

07.01.2022 During winter the museum will be open Sundays 10am - 3pm, or by appointment for a group. We will post our return to normal opening hours in mid-September. The museum is run by volunteers and the more volunteers we have the more hours we can open. Contact us if you are interested in joining our team of Plantagenet Historical Society volunteers.

01.01.2022 HRiA VISIT THE MT BARKER OLD POLICE STATION MUSEUM GARDENS The Heritage Roses in Australia 14th National Conference was held in Albany in the first week in November. A pre-conference tour was organised for delegates who included eminent rosarians from Australia, USA, NZ and UK, some of whom first visited the Great Southern and particularly the Mt Barker Museum gardens 25 years for an ealier HRiA Conference held in Albany. Among the delegates were John Neiwesteeg rosarian from... Victoria, Dennis Dempsey manager of the Parliament House and national Rose Gardens in Canberra, Lynne Chapman curator of roses at Araluen Park and Rose Marsh an inaugural member of the HRiA in WA as well as Cathy Wright, both from Kojonup and involved with the Kodja Place Rose Maze. The delegates spent a long hour at the Museum garden and offered much help in identifying and naming roses, enjoying lunch, a rosy Melbourne Cup race call and the pleasant surroundings the gardens provide. Feedback from the conference organisers was very positive - congratuling the Museum gardeners on all the hard work put in and that delegates were impressed with the world class standard achieved by the gardens visited. A big thank you has to go to the hard working Museum gardeners, all volunteers, who put in a huge effort to bring the gardens and particularly the roses up to flower in time. The roses are exceptionally good this year so if you haven't visited yet, bring a picnic and a friend and make time to wander and enjor what is a wonderful asset right here in Mt Barker. Judy Leahy.
