22.01.2022 The Class 12 Independent Project is a significant learning journey in our student’s school life, as in many Waldorf schools. The students have had a chance to work with their own research questions, determine their own directions and problem-solve along the way. They can work with mentors in their field of study and meet with school supervisors to determine directions and share their independent learning. The Year 12 Project is often one of transformation. I am struck every y...ear at how the projects shine with the variety and individuality of our students. This unprecedented year has offered them greater challenges as you can imagine but they have been resilient and creative and met the world all the same. Needless to say, I am particularly proud of their courage and what they have achieved! It is always rewarding to hear the ‘end of the story’ as the students present their Project findings. An essential element of the presentations is the students feeling ‘held’ by our school community and this year we are asking you to do so in different but equally important ways. Please share in the student’s projects through our livestream which will be posted on our school Facebook page by Thursday this week. The Class 12s are still hard at work with preparations. But they are also getting excited and looking forward to sharing their work with you soon! Eleanor Waterford|Project Coordinator

14.01.2022 Mercurius Australia New Eco Wool From the earliest grades, wool and fiber awaken the will in little fingers. Throughout the grades, they continue to engage will...-filled activities exploring the curriculum. Mercurius Australia is continually reviewing our social, economic, and environmental impact, and recently have cast an eye to the wool industry. We have now fine-tuned our wool, looking closely all the way along the production chain, from the farmers and wool growers, right through to the spinners and dyers. The result: our new Golden Fleece Eco-Wool. A soft, durable wool, meeting our own high ethical, social and environmental standards. Produced from non-mulesed sheep on Australian farms, eco washed off-shore and dyed and spun right here in Australia. 8ply, 12ply and 16ply, available in 22 colour spectrums as well as natural skeins for those experimenting with dyes. NON MULESED Animal welfare is a complex issue. Mercurius has chosen wool from non-mulesed sheep as the base of our eco-wool. Selectively choosing our raw materials helps support Australian farmers to develop humane and practical alternatives to mulesing. Participating and partnering in the conversation to balance practical farming with animal welfare. ECO-WASHED Wool scouring and washing is an important step in the processing of wool. Conventional wool scouring uses high amounts of chemicals and detergents, leading to growing concern for the environment. Golden Fleece is washed with soap that meets the strict guidelines of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Caring for the environment, while producing a soft, eco-friendly wool. 100% HAND WASHABLE Today more and more wool is labelled as machine washable. In its natural state, wool requires careful handling to avoid felting and shrinking. To make wool machine washable, a process of a chlorine acid superwash and the application of a polymer coating completes the final stages of wool production. We are happy to be able to say that Mercurius avoids these additional processes, leaving Golden Fleece as 100% natural, hand washable, pure wool. https://www.mercurius.com.au
13.01.2022 Unprecedented. A word that may be becoming somewhat tired this year, but still seems the best way to sum up our Class 12 students’ experience of their last year at school. A few weeks ago we held the Class 12 Project Showcase where our Class 12 students shared a taste of their Independent Project work with the community. This year has asked more of our Class 12 students than perhaps any other year. While the year may have asked more of the Class 12s in flexibility and imagination, what was evident at the Showcase night was how enriching their year and Project process has been. Please take the time to watch the video that was created by MBWS ex-student Oscar Watkins of the Project Showcase night. https://tinyurl.com/y6myxb6a

11.01.2022 Class 12 Play - Tuesday 8 December to Thursday 9 December at 7pm in Living Arts Centre. Please join us for this interesting and engaging play about the life of insects - flighty, sanguine butterflies; acquisitive, industrious beetles and fiercely organised, territorial ants. Observing all the quirks and habits of these insects is a homeless man who has ‘seen it all’ and acts as a chorus-like figure commenting on the behaviour (which mirrors that of human beings in so many way...s) of the creatures he encounters. Due to the unforseen lockdown which saw the Class 12 Projects postponed, we have just one week to get the play together; however, this group has proved so many times and in so many ways that they can do it - in spades; so please book your tickets through the school booking system and we will see you all next week.
