25.01.2022 Last weeks casual dress day (emergency service workers)

24.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 7th 11th December 2020 The year is wrapping up very quickly and we now only have Year 7 9 students at school. Planned activities will end after our traditional picnic day next Tuesday, as we generally do not have many students left attending by then to plan a range of activities. However, students are welcomed at school and are certainly put to good use! Please make sure students still wear clothing suitable for outdoor activities and certainly not the...ir best clothes. Any students at school next week will need to make sure they bring their water bottles, snacks and lunches, as the Caf has now closed for the year. This Tuesday was the state wide Transition Day for Year 6 students. We had around 40 young students, who fitted in to our school and the activities with ease, with many positive comments at the end of the day. Thank you to the Year 7s, many from the Student Executive, who spoke to, and assisted, with the Year 6s. I’d also like to thank Anthony Brewergray, the Year 7 and Transition Coordinator, for all his efforts in planning a successful day. Thanks also to the staff who helped make this day so successful by running classes for the Year 6s. Traditionally, this coming Monday would be when we hold our Presentation Evening, to celebrate the educational and extra-curricular successes of the students from 2020. As COVID restrictions weren’t known, and the Year 12 results won’t be released until the end of December this year, the decision was made to postpone the Presentation Evening until early next year, so that all student achievements could be celebrated together. Students would normally receive their Semester 2 reports at the end of the evening. Reports will be given out to students at the end of Picnic Day, for those attending. For all other students, reports will be available for collection from the Office from Wednesday. Any reports not collected by the end of next week will be mailed home to families. A digital copy of the report will also be emailed to families at that time. With only one week of the school year left, let’s enjoy our time together before a well-earned break! Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 14th: Tuesday 15th: Picnic Day Wednesday 16th: Reports available from the Office Thursday 17th: Friday 18th: Last day of the 2020 school year (Vic), International Migrants Day

22.01.2022 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM | Today is International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women which marks the beginning of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based... Violence. In Australia, on average, one woman is murdered by a current or former partner each week, and 1 in 2 women have experienced sexual harassment. Alpine Shire Council calls on our whole community to call out the behaviours which lead to violence against women. #respectis #callitout #16dayscampaign

21.01.2022 The annual Alpine Shire Youth Awards recognise the young people who call the Alpine Shire home. These awards platform their achievements in a range of different areas that highlight our diversity and celebrate our differences. The Alpine Shire Youth Awards have a new look in 2020 as we make the most of the opportunities we have in line with current restrictions. This year, the Alpine Shire Youth Awards have teamed up with local business, Handcut Productions, to create a film... that celebrate each of our award recipients and the businesses that have generously supported their awards. The film will include musical performances from local young artists and a special guest appearance by captain of the AFLW Melbourne Football Club, Daisy Pearce, as keynote speaker. From 7:30pm on Friday, 13 November, 2020, the community can watch the film from the comfort of their homes, where it will be streamed on the Alpine Shire Youth Facebook page and available on Council’s website.

20.01.2022 VTAC first round offers are available from tomorrow (14th Jan). Ms Macklan is available tomorrow if you need to discuss your options or have any questions about offers in this round or future rounds.

20.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 31st May 4th June 2021 A quick poll of the students at lunch confirmed that the majority of students were happy to be back at school. For those that weren’t so happy, being back at school means other benefits have been returned to regional Victorians, but not to those living in metropolitan Melbourne. Perhaps this might help ease the pain of being at school! Our Year 11s returned to mid-year practice exams, designed to give our students the experience of... completing work under exam conditions. They also provide the students with an idea of how they are progressing in their subjects. The senior students are progressing towards the end of their Unit 1 or Unit 3 courses, set to swap to the next unit for the last 2 weeks of the term. It was great to see so many students considering the environment today, by wearing cloth, reusable masks, with only a few students forgetting completely. Remember, masks are supposed to be worn travelling to and from school, including on the school bus, whenever inside and outside if you can’t social distance. We all know they are not the most comfortable things to wear, but I am sure students find it more uncomfortable being reminded many times in a day to put their mask on or wear it properly. During this time of limited COVID restrictions, we ask that all visitors to school sign in at the Office on arrival, but that non-essential visitors do not attend at this time. Not only will signing in help with contact tracing, if needed, but also supports our Child Safety policies, by not having visitors wandering around the school. As a Respectful Relationships school, to have healthy, respectful relationships you need to know what respectful behaviour looks like. Some examples of how to show respect to others include: being a good listener (understanding someone’s wants, needs and point of view); being a clear communicator (talking about your needs and wants in a direct, yet calm and respectful way); acting in a timely manner (making sure requests are dealt with, without delay). Do you behave like this? Do the important people in your life behave this way to you? Next Wednesday is the last school council meeting for this term. We will be meeting via Webex. All school community members are welcome; if you would like to ‘attend’ please contact me for a meeting invitation link. Next Friday is our report writing day for the teachers and so a student free day to provide this time. The following Monday is the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, so the students will get an extra long weekend to enjoy. It is also officially the end of Semester 1 for senior students, with Semester 2 units beginning on the Tuesday school resumes. Enjoy the weekend, Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 7th: Tuesday 8th: World Oceans Day Wednesday 9th: Thursday 10th: ADVANCE Youth Crew Day (6am 5.30pm) Friday 11th: Report writing day (student free day)

19.01.2022 RETURN TO SCHOOL It is great to see students back at school today and getting back to a 'normal' routine. Please remember that masks are mandatory. During remote learning the Year 7s did a great job engaging in online learning by doing models in Humanities and experiments in science. In humanities the students are learning about the history of Egypt. One student made a senek board game, another made a model of a shaduf, an Egyptian invention to irrigate crops. In science the experiment was burning the candle at both ends to get a see saw effect.

19.01.2022 Some of our students have had the opportunity to build their own guitar this semester - The results are awesome! Well done to the students and Mr Brad Redmond

18.01.2022 YEAR 12 GRADUATION Congratulations to the 2020 Year 12 students who celebrated the end of their school year on Monday evening with a graduation picnic. After what has been a very challenging year for these students, it was wonderful to see them come out the other side with a smile on their face. WELL DONE!

17.01.2022 First day of activities for our students on the beach camp. One group has spent the morning riding and the other sailing.

16.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 23rd 27th November 2020 With Victoria now being at the ‘last step’ before reaching ‘COVID normal’, there are a few changes that will make life easier for everyone at school. However, it is important to remember to continue implementing strategies we have had in place to prevent the spread of infection of any type. Staying home when unwell and getting tested is the main way to reduce any risk of transmission. However, at this time of the year, hay fever a...nd asthma tend to cause symptoms similar to some COVID symptoms. If symptoms seem different or worse than the usual symptoms experienced, staying home and getting tested are advised. But for students with persistent symptoms, such as a cough or runny nose, a medical certificate from the treating GP may help prevent students being sent home unnecessarily. Drink fountains and taps have been re-opened for use, however bringing water bottles to school is advised and our preferred way of ensuring students are drinking enough throughout the day, especially in summer. Limitations on who can visit schools no longer apply, however, following Child Safe policies, and to assist with contact tracing, we will still insist that all visitors go straight to the Office and may need to follow sign in procedures. Visitors will be expected to comply with any current restrictions; currently they include physical distancing, wearing a face mask indoors or outside where physical distancing is not possible. The upcoming week is our traditional Band Week. Braam de Villiers has been working busily within the DET guidelines to ensure the music students are ready for their performance. With the recent updates, the Band Concert, being held next Thursday at lunchtime from 12.50pm, is now able to welcome parent and community members to join the audience. Being held outside the Jessie Hollonds’ Studios, visitors will be able to socially distance from students and other adults. We held our last school council meeting for the year on Wednesday evening. For the school council update, written by our communications officer Angela Toniolo, please see the post on our Facebook page. Another milestone of the year has been reached, with the Year 11s officially finishing today. The Year 10 begin their Advantage program next week and will then finish their school year on the Thursday, before our last student free day on Friday to assist with report writing. Have a lovely weekend and stay cool, Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 30th: Year 12 Graduation Ceremony and Picnic Tuesday 1st: World AIDS Day Wednesday 2nd: Abolition of Slavery Day Thursday 3rd: Last day for Year 10s, International Day of Persons with Disability Friday 4th: Student free day Report writing day.

16.01.2022 VEGE GARDEN MAKE OVER Well done to Riva, Tamehana and teacher Emma (who tackled the big job of weeding and replanting the school vegetable garden. During the last couple of weeks students have been attending a 2021 Advantage Program, run by the school, to give them a head start on their subject choices for next year. The VCAL student's have chosen a project to improve the school grounds starting with the vegetable garden and a general cleanup at the back of the school (thanks to Riley) We look forward to see what they can achieve in 2021.

15.01.2022 Lake Guy - Picnic Day 2020

14.01.2022 Good afternoon, we hope that students are enjoying the end of year activities. Just a very brief reminder that today is the last day the cafe is operating. Students at school on Monday will need to bring there own recess and lunch, and on Tuesday there will be a free sausage sizzle happening for lunch, but students should also pack snacks as well as a water bottle.

11.01.2022 DET Advice on the Return to School for Friday 4th June, 2021. 10.01.2022 Year 7 Food during Remote Learning Students continued with their learning by having their practical class at home. Macaroni cheese - a classic comfort meal, with many important skills, like making a roux, a white sauce and cooking pasta to 'al dente'.

09.01.2022 One year ago we sent this team to Maryborough. Let's hope we do it again in 2021

09.01.2022 Good morning, For students not on camp, the 2020 Activities Week program begins today. Please make sure students are dressed appropriately for their chosen activities (no thongs), and have packed lunches if participating in an all day off site activity. For those climbing Mt Bogong today, it will be cold at the top, so warm clothes should be carried in your backpack. Have a great few days

09.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 9th 13th November 2020 This week has been busy (which ones aren’t?)! NAIDOC week, which usually falls within the Term 2 school holidays, was celebrated with bell music from Indigenous artists played all week. We also flew the Aboriginal flag each day and students in Year 7 enjoyed a talk by Megan Benne about the importance of ‘country’ to Indigenous people and their connection to their land and the environment. A small ceremony took place on Wednesday t...o commemorate Remembrance Day. The sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians is something that must never be forgotten, to ensure that the same mistakes from the past are never repeated. The Parent Opinion Survey closes today. Login details have been sent to parents again today, as a reminder to complete this survey for us. The results are completely confidential and we use them to be able to make improvements. Next week, our current Year 11 students take the first step into being Year 12 students, with the start of their 2 week Advantage program. This program is designed to ensure that students focus on either skills needed for next year, or begin preparatory work on their Year 12 subjects. White Ribbon Day next Friday, is to raise awareness of gendered violence in Australia and say ‘no’. This sits well with Respectful Relationships, a Department initiative that the local Upper Kiewa Valley schools, including us, are implementing; it also supports our school vision. Respectful Relationships promotes and models respect and equality. It also supports us to be able to teach our students how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. This year, all staff and our school council have completed a training session on what can be a very difficult topic. If you have any questions about this initiative, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school. Our last student free day this year is being held on Friday 4th December. It will be a report writing day, so that the teachers have some dedicated time to get this task done. This date also coincides with the end of the school year for the Year 10s (so technically, the Year 10s last day at school is Thursday 3rd). Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 16th: Food Safety Week, International Day for Tolerance Tuesday 17th: International Students Day Wednesday 18th: Thursday 19th: International Men’s Day Friday 20th: White Ribbon Day, Universal Children’s’ Day

09.01.2022 Alpine Shire Youth, Indigo Shire Youth, and RCoW's Youth Services have teamed up with community groups in north-east Victoria that are taking a stance on climate change in safe and inclusive spaces for passionate people, just like you. Find out more about what's happening in your area and what you can do to lessen your impact on our planet by a FREE online Zoom session. It will be at 6:00pm on Wednesday, 2 December. The session is targeted to young people between 12-25, but ... people of all ages are invited to attend. This event is totally FREE, but registration is needed so that a Zoom link can be sent out. Register now by heading to https://events.humanitix.com/youth-in-politics-online-ed-cl The Zoom session is a safe space where you can be present with or without your camera on. If you have a question and you would rather someone else ask it on your behalf, a moderator will be introduced at the beginning and you're welcome to send questions to them to ask on your behalf.

09.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 16th 20th November 2020 At this time of year (well, much earlier really), Year 12 students are looking toward finishing their school education and what they will do in the following year. Many will have already put things in place for their next steps. However this conversation shouldn’t just start in the senior years. It is never too early to begin exploring career options and occupations of interest. Research indicates that parents are the single great...est influence on their child’s education and career decisions. High parental engagement can have a major impact on the young person’s learning. myfuture is a free online career service that provides resources and tools to help all age groups, including students and parents explore career options and occupations of interest. Parents and carers are invited to join an upcoming webinar that will demonstrate the free career planning tools available on the myfuture website. Webinar details: Date: Tuesday 24 November Time: 11am 12 noon Location: online Register now via the Parents Victoria website. Jo Macklan, Careers Coordinator, is available Monday to Thursdays, for students or families to talk to about anything careers related, including those next steps especially if a traditional school pathway is not the best fit for your child. Jo recently participated in an audit, completed by the Australian Centre for Career Education. The report was very detailed and contained a lot of information, but showed that careers education at Mount Beauty is an important focus for the school and that taking on a whole school approach to careers education will help to better prepare our students for their futures. Well done, Jo. Next Wednesday is the final school council meeting for this year, held at 6pm. There will be one more meeting in February next year for this school council, before the new school council begins. Everyone is welcome to attend; please email me if you would like the meeting details (video conference). Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 23rd: Tuesday 24th: Wednesday 25th: International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. School Council meeting. Thursday 26th: Friday 27th: Last day for Year 11s

08.01.2022 Friday 11 December (today) will be the cafes last day of operation. There will be no cafe or lunch orders next week. We would also like to thank Heather and the Neighborhood Centre team their hard work and dedication to the operation of the cafe this year.

08.01.2022 Middle Years campers on their MTB ride

07.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 14th 18th December 2020 Thank you for a wonderful year. 2020 hasn’t been the easiest, but we have managed to make it through and there have been many successes and positives that have come out of this year. You sometimes had to look a bit harder for those positives this year, but they were certainly there. Reports were given out to students from Tuesday afternoon, however many have not been collected. These will be sent home, as well an emailed version g...oing out to families before the New Year. Please remember that your child had a disrupted year of learning, as all Victorian students did. It is important not to react hastily, thinking that your child has fallen behind and won’t catch up next year. If your child achieved a ‘C’ result in the Victorian Curriculum progression points, this indicates that their learning is at the level expected at this time of the year. The gap between the hollow dot and the solid dot shows your child’s growth. The amount of growth made in a year is more important than being below, at or above standard, as every student begins the year at a different point in their learning. I want to thank all our students, families and the staff for all the extra effort and work that this year caused. I hope everyone has a restful holiday break, spends quality time with family and friends and comes back refreshed for another year of learning, hopefully uninterrupted. We can also rest assured that if the year is interrupted, we will know how to tackle it and improve on what was learnt this year. I look forward to working with you all again in 2021! Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 14th: HOLIDAYS! Wednesday 27th January 2020: Staff return to school Thursday 28th January 2020: Students return to school

06.01.2022 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 30th November 4th December 2020 Monday evening saw the celebration of the Year 12 Graduation, signalling the end of exams for our students. With perfect weather, families were able to attend, socially distanced of course, enjoy a picnic on the Les Peart oval and celebrate such an important milestone. Students who did not graduate with the 2020 group were able to attend and certainly not forgotten. Thank you to West Peak for opening for ‘after graduation ...celebrations’, where many students, families and staff ended up, after the formalities of the graduation ceremony concluded. I would also like to thank the Neighbourhood Centre for providing the catering. I’d especially like to thank Carolyn Trott, who stepped into the role of VCE Coordinator during the year and managed to pull together a memorable series of events to celebrate the end of year for the Year 12s. This is right of passage, with a strong history at the school that we thought might not have been able to go ahead at one stage. The Year 10s completed their Advantage program on Thursday, readying them for the rigours of Year 11 and it is now only the Year 7 9 students left at school. It will be quiet around the place next week, with the Middle School beach camp heading off to the Torquay area. Official classes finish on Tuesday, with activities starting on Wednesday. If your child hasn’t returned their form yet, there is still plenty of time, although some of the choices may be a bit limited. Tuesday 15th is our traditional picnic day. After that, students are welcome to attend school, but activities will be limited to mostly finalising things around the school in readiness for the holidays or next year. Some general reminders: If you still have any outstanding books borrowed from the library, please return them as soon as possible, so that stocktake is not held up. Student subject selections for Year 7 9 students were given out yesterday (Thursday) to students. Parents need to know this information to be able to complete their booklist orders. There are always many students disappointed that they did not get their first preferences, but unfortunately, when 40 people all pick to do the one subject with only 20 spots, at least 20 people will have to be disappointed. In this situation, the second preference is generally given wherever possible and that is why carefully choosing the second preference is so important. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts! Simone Roy Principal. WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK Monday 7th: Beach Camp departs Tuesday 8th: Wednesday 9th: Start of Activities program Thursday 10th: Human Rights Day, Uniting Care Christmas Appeal begins Friday 11th:
