25.01.2022 With everyone being home, its important that you know what to do in case of a fire or emergency. Write or type out your fire escape plan and practice it with all the people you live with Dial Triple Zero (000) in an emergency... Get everyone out of the house as quickly as possible Wait in a safe place for firefighters to arrive - never go back inside for any reason. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/escape-plans

25.01.2022 Being able to give your precise location in an emergency can save vital time and lives. The free #emergencyplus app has been upgraded with @what3words - Ever...y 3 metre square in the world has been given a #whatthreewords address so you can #HelpTripleZeroFindYou with just three words. Be prepared this summer and download the app!

24.01.2022 As we are unable to make it to all streets of Mt Eliza, we do have volunteers in station to collect donations. We will be using our sirens again this afternoon while collecting donations.

23.01.2022 Woke up this morning to a lovely email from Santa and his elves, ‘Dear Mt Eliza Fire Brigade, I had the most wonderful day yesterday driving around your community. The warm and happy welcome was the little bit of extra Christmas spirit I needed to help with Christmas Eve this year.... I know for all families, this year has been hard. Even Mrs Claus, the elves and I have felt it. But after yesterday’s amazing support, I know your community will bounce back stronger than ever. Sadly I can’t be there today for a second run. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get ready for Christmas Eve. I’m so excited to come back and drop off all your presents. Until then, please stay safe and have a Merry Christmas! Lots of love, Santa and his elves.’ We would like to thank our amazing community for showing us and Santa so much support yesterday.

23.01.2022 Unfortunately this year the annual Mt Eliza Fire Brigade Santa Run / Present Drop will not be going ahead as usual. We have been in contact with Santa and sadly due to the current climate he has informed us that he cannot join us this year. Santa has asked that we pass on this message for him: ‘To all the boys and girls of Mt Eliza, I’m so sorry I can’t help with Mt Eliza’s wonderful Present Drop. It’s one of my favourite events of the year! Don’t worry though, I’ve been talk...ing to Ms Claus and all the Elves and we are so excited to be able to deliver all your wonderful presents on Christmas Eve!’ We’re working on some alternative Christmas activities and will let you know very soon what they are! Thank you to everyone who’s reached out - your ongoing support is much appreciated!

23.01.2022 If you plan to burn off, please register your burn with ETSA on 1800 668 511 For more information: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off

23.01.2022 From 11:59pm on 31st of May, caravan and camping is now allowed in Victoria. Keep safe everybody. Please be mindful of any campfires you light. Even in the cooler months, campfires can become out of control. The safest way to have a campfire it to clear 1m from the fire of any leaves or organic matter, dig a small ditch and always watch your fire!

22.01.2022 You may see members at Mt Eliza Fire Brigade over the coming weeks. It is important for our volunteers to start training for this coming fire season so we can protect our community. Please note that all training activists are done in a COVID-safe manner.

22.01.2022 Did you know we are currently in Fire Danger Period? Fire Danger Period, or FDP, is when the CFA restricts the use of fire within the community to help prevent fires from starting. FDP effects people who live in regional and outer metropolitan like Mt Eliza. CFA declares FDP when they believe there is a greater danger of fire. This year FDP came into place on the 14th of December for the Mornington Peninsula Shire.... Once the FDP has been declared, fire restrictions come into force. This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements. If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted. Total Fire Bans are different to the Fire Danger Period. A Total Fire Ban Day can be declared at any time throughout the year. No fires are to be lit in the open air on Total Fire Ban Days unless you have a special permit. Below are some ‘Can I or Can’t I?’ cards that explain what can and can’t be done during FDP and on Total Fire Ban Days.

21.01.2022 At 09:07 today, 29th of June 2020, Mt Eliza Fire Brigade attended a wash away as a result of a motor vehicle accident on the corner for Nepean Hwy and Wooralla Dr in Mt Eliza. Along with our colleagues from Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria, we were able to make the scene safe within an hour and a half of getting the call. Seeing as the accident was on a very busy road, a fair number of vehicles passed by the incident. We ask all drivers to remember that you must slow do...wn to 40km/ph when passing Red and Blue flashing lights no matter the speed limit of the road. Theses laws are in place to protect the emergency service works and volunteers that attend these incidents. Please note, photos attached ARE NOT from todays incident.

21.01.2022 Mt Eliza Fire Brigade would like to say a massive thank you to the wonderful people of Mt Eliza! With your amazing donations, we were able to raise $3696.85 for The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne Good Friday Appeal Without the support of our amazing community, we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do.... Thank you Mt Eliza!!

20.01.2022 CFA was humbled to receive millions of dollars in donations over the 2019/20 fire season. The support shown for our volunteers was overwhelming and we are plea...sed to announce how we are distributing $20.5m. Highlights include millions of dollars for brigade equipment, a new leadership and development program for volunteers, ten mobile community education vans and mobile tablets for online volunteer learning and training. Donations given to specific brigades are also being spent on ultralight tankers, field command vehicles and other items needed to support our brigades. To everyone who contributed: we cannot thank you enough. Read the full story: https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/cfa-rolls-out-20.5-million-in

20.01.2022 Only working smoke alarms save lives. When youre asleep you lose your sense of smell. A smoke alarm is your electronic nose, it will alert you if there is smoke from a fire. A small fire can grow to involve an entire room in just two to three minutes. A smoke alarm provides early warning and time to escape.

19.01.2022 Mt Eliza Fire Brigade would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Matt and the members of the Mt Eliza Country Club. We appreciate your efforts in raising $600 which will go towards the maintenance of our equipment and gear. At Mt Eliza Fire Brigade, we are so lucky to be surrounded by the most amazing community. It always pleasantly surprises us at the efforts and support of all members of our community!

19.01.2022 As you may now be aware, we are unable to hold the annual present run this year. If you would like Santa to send a card to your child / children, please click on this link: ... https://forms.gle/Vt3xnumXy11PJcN59 Please note that where multiple children share an address, one card will be sent to that address with the names of all children. 13.01.2022 Today marks 11 year since the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria. Today we remember all those who lost their lives. Today we thank all those who bravely fought the fires and all those who helped in any way, shape or form.... Even 11 years on, the memories and devastation of that day and days, weeks, months afterwards can still have effect on people. If you need help, please reach out. You dont have to fight those memories alone.

13.01.2022 Don’t forget, our volunteers will be out and about this Friday collecting money for The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne Good Friday Appeal. Sadly, we won’t be able to get to every street in Mt Eliza but we will have volunteers, from 10am-3:30pm, at the station if you wish to drop of donations.

12.01.2022 GET DOWN LOW & GO, GO, GO! Do you know what to do if you hear a smoke alarm? What if you see or smell smoke? As smoke builds in a room cooler air will be lower to the ground, so GET DOWN LOW & GO, GO, GO! to the nearest door. Feel the door with the back of your hand if the door is hot there might be fire on the other side, so you will need to crawl to another exit such as a window. Check out the home fire safety checklsit for more ways to keep your family and home safe f...rom fire: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/home-fire-safety-checklist See more

12.01.2022 At 02:33 Sunday the 18th of October 2020, Mt Eliza Fire Brigade attended an alarm operating at Eliza Square Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with the familiar smell of burning bread. An assessment of the building was undertaken with the assistance of crew from FRV Station 91.... Given moderate smoke haze, the centre ‘kneaded’ ventilating and crews achieved this with a positive-pressure fan. Thanks to the quick thinking of staff onsite, no one was hurt and no 'dough' was lost! Whilst kitchen fires in the home take the cake, commercial premises are not immune to these either.

12.01.2022 Our thoughts are with those lost tonight. We send our love to their loved ones

12.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.... Lest We Forget

11.01.2022 Mt Eliza Fire Brigade is again supporting the Good Friday Appeal. Only this year, things are looking at little different. Our amazing volunteers wont be out walking the streets this Friday, instead we are doing an online donation platform. The Good Friday Appeal raises money to help those that need it most. Each year, they highlight some amazingly strong children who are fighting their own battles at the Royal Childrens Hospital like 2 1/2 year old Mackenzie who was diagno...sed with lymphoblastic leukaemia. 11.01.2022 Unfortunately Mt Eliza Fire Brigade will need to postpose the information session planned for this Sunday, 22nd March. The CFA's Chief Officer has just suspended all non-essential fire brigade activities in response to the current State of Emergency declared yesterday in response to the COVID-19 event. We will arrange another date for the session as soon as the current emergency situation passes.

10.01.2022 In response to multiple enquiries about our Brigade over the summer, we will be holding an information session & morning tea on Sunday 22nd of March at 10:30am. You will be able to find out about who we are and the many operational and non-operational things we do. We'll also let you know how to become a member if you'd like to help us out! We are currently seeking people to join our Brigade Support Team and help out with our non-operational commitments including attending community events, hosting school and community groups, and assisting with station & vehicle maintenance. This is a great way for people to get involved and help the local community without getting on the truck. No prior experience is necessary. If you'd like to know more, please join us at 103 Canadian Bay Road, Mt Eliza on Sunday 22nd of March 10:30am.

10.01.2022 The CFA Community Safety Team will have a Bushfire Information trailer in the Mt Eliza Village, Mt Eliza Way tomorrow from 9am to 11am. 07.01.2022 Kids, do you know what to do if theres a fire at your house? Do your mum and dad know what to do? While everyones at home, its a great time to review and practice your home fire escape plan. Make sure all your family members know:... The TWO quickest ways out of every room How they will exit from upstairs if your home has a second storey An agreed-upon meeting place outside, such as the letter box How they will call Triple zero (000) After youve discussed and confirmed your escape plan with your family, use this template to draw the plan. Parents if your kids are younger, draw the plan together to help them learn it. If your kids are older, ask them to draw the plan themselves so you can check their understanding of what to do in a fire emergency. Check out some more information here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/escape-plans

01.01.2022 One of Mt Elizas volunteers was lucky enough to spend some time at Marlo Air Field. While there, the volunteer was told all about the different types of helicopters used during fire fighting efforts. The smaller helicopters are used by crews flying at a higher altitude to gage the intensity of the fire as well as fire behaviour and tracking. They are the control helicopters and arent able to carry water. However, the larger helicopters are used for water bombing. These heli...copters can hold around 1000Ls of water and can fly at lower altitude to allow for more accurate bombing. The helicopters can also be used for crew transport holding between 6 and 9 crew at a time. Helicopters are a key part of the fire fighting efforts as they allow for not only assessment of the fire line but also allow for water to be dropped in areas harder for fire fighters to access.

01.01.2022 Mt Eliza Fire Brigade would like to thank our absolutely wonderful community and all their amazing fund raising efforts. From donations to bake sales, lemon aid stands to karaoke, it is so heart warming to see this beautiful community get behind and support our fellow Aussies in this time of hardship. Your support does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.... Thank you Mt Eliza!!
