22.01.2022 Not TECHNICALLY a Therapy dog but our Friday morning patients felt pretty awesome after a visit from Dr Fernie today

22.01.2022 SNACKS Who loves snacks !? Who sometimes reaches for the snack that isn’t supporting their health !? ... Who’s kids are on holidays and boom they are wanting and needing food every 5 mins.... !? I made these for the freezer yesterday & OMG YUMMMMMM !!! Slice banana In between 2 slices place a little dollop of natural nut butter (I had almond butter on hand) Then I melted 78% Dark chocolate and dipped it in then froze !! So simple Good fats Protein source Natural sugars from the banana Little added sugar from the choc because it’s a good quality dark chocolate (the darker the better for health benefits) So when you get that sweet craving or wanting something to snack on then you have a healthier option on hand !!! Enjoy Jarna #banana #snack #kids #schoolholidays #food #eatwell #cook #bake #morningtonpeninsula #mtleiza #mtelizachiro #victoria #australia #chiro #chiropractic #chiropracticadjustment #movewell #livewell #nervoussystem #guthealth #immunesystem

21.01.2022 Your midday reminder that your BRAIN needs MOVEMENT to function properly. If you’re at your desk and haven’t moved for a while... get up, stand up, dance, jump, stretch, sprint, yawn, shake, run, hop, lunge... or even just look up at the ceiling for 30 seconds (your heads been leaning forward WAY too much today). You may notice an improvement in... - your alertness - confidence... - stress levels - ability to think clearer - and even your creativity! Research has even found an improvement in test performance of children who adopt an upright posture during the tests. Why? Because upright posture requires activation of postural muscles. You’re ACTIVATING the brain more If you or someone you love loses concentration and motivation at a desk... - get a fit ball and bounce around as you study/work - get a stand up desk / create your own stand up desk - have 30 second posture reset breaks OFTEN - start your day off with MOVEMENT. Yoga, walking, exercise, dance... anything! - walk around the room repeating or reading what you’re struggling to take in - set posture reminders on your phone, or stick a little post it note on your desk so you see it often. Zoned out already reading this? DON’T JUST SIT THERE! MOVE! Yours in health, Mt Eliza Chiro

20.01.2022 All of our fundamental abilities, which we learn early and rely on all our lives such as balance, locomotion, coordination of vision with movement, discrimination of speech and language, depend upon the proper functioning of the vestibular system. Other than what the image above says about the vestibular system, balance and equilibrium are also considerably influenced by the vestibular system. In addition, our ability to coordinate both sides of our body together (like riding... a bike or cutting with scissors) also require good vestibular function. Considering all of these basic and very important functions, it is not difficult to see how a vestibular problem can create a very real yet often invisible problem for developing children. It’s spinal health week coming up, time to consider a chiro and book your child in for a complimentary spinal and neurological examination. Let’s check how their vestibular system is functioning! Yours in health, Mt Eliza Chiro

20.01.2022 You may have noticed your chiropractor using a small hand held device during adjustments. The Activator (or what people like to call ‘the clicky thing’) is a hand-held, spring loaded device that delivers fast, precise adjustments in order to restore range of motion to the vertebrae and extremity joints. At Mt Eliza Chiro, we have several techniques available and we don’t mould the person to our technique but instead, we choose what technique is best for the patient in front... of us. Which for some, including children, is the Activator tool. As a patient, when you first see an Activator it may look intimidating OR you may find it quite hard to believe something so small can be such a powerful adjusting tool. But you’ll find quite quickly, that this ‘pogo stick’ looking tool has amazing benefits. The activator is designed to apply the same amount of force as a manual adjustment, but focused on a more specific area. This creates less movement, less muscle resistance and can be comfortable for those patients who sometimes tense up with manual therapy. So what can you expect? Your chiropractor will apply the Activator device to the tissues at or near the affected joint. An initial pressure is followed by a quick thrust from the device, which feels much like having one’s reflex tested by tapping your knee. It can be used on the entire spine, as well as on other joints in the body like your knees, ankles and wrists. In addition it can also be used directly onto trigger points formed in tight muscles. SO in summary * The activator delivers fast, precise adjustments to restore range of movement in a joint * It can (and does) provide beneficial results in times when manual adjusting is not appropriate. * It is an adjustment to the spine or joint without the ‘cracks and pops’ of manual adjustments * The speed of the device means that the muscles do not have time to tense against the force. * It is a GENTLE, LOW FORCE adjustment that can be just as beneficial to you as a manual adjustment. So if you or anyone you know has been hesitant in coming to a chiropractor because of the manual adjusting or ‘cracks’... now you know there’s other techniques available!

20.01.2022 What is Sympathetic Dominance? To understand that, we need to understand a little more about our nervous system A person’s nervous system has different parts, one of which is the autonomic nervous system. This is in charge of functions in the body that happen without conscious thought like breathing, hormone release, digestions and such. The autonomic nervous system has two parts, the sympathetic system and the parasympathetic system. ... It is your sympathetic nervous system that controls the reactionary state. It is more likely to trigger when you are feeling highly stressed, emotional, tired or over-worked. As a result, the fight or flight nervous system kicks in, resulting in certain reactions. The parasympathetic system allows for repair and healing while you are relaxing, assists with digestion and such. So what is Sympathetic DOMINANCE? What does this have to do with your health? If you were a female gazelle being chased by a lion, do you think you would be thinking about digesting food, releasing an egg to fall pregnant or going to sleep? The answer is NO Guess what? Youarethe gazelle. And the Lion is your financial situation, relationships, work, kids, LIFE! Simply, your sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight mode) is overpowering your parasympathetic nervous system (rest/digest/repair mode) and shutting down all the good stuff in your body. This then may lead to you developing multiple illnesses and it all derives from one thing CHRONIC STRESS Sympathetic Dominance may be responsible for a whole host of health issues Digestive dysfunctions, Hormonal Imbalances, Headaches, Back Pain, Autoimmune Disorders and Anxiety/Depression to name a few. The good news is, it may be turned around! Chiropractic adjustments as well as certain lifestyle changes and exercises can support your body in switching out of the Sympathetic Nervous System Know someone who suffers from any of the above? Consider a Chiro Yours in health, Mt Eliza Chiro

09.01.2022 Stage 4 has meant we have only been able to see patients for emergency and critical care. Meaning... we havent been able to adjust our patients unless they were in severe, significant or critical pain. Seems silly right? Well it hasn’t made sense to us and has been hard to accept. But we’ve made it through! And we’re onto the next stage With the slight lifting of restrictions as of Monday 28th, we are able to start seeing more of our patients. It’s been a long 8 weeks. We’ve certainly missed you!!! So to repeat... with the slight lifting of restrictions as of Monday 28th, we are able to start seeing more of our patients. Hours are back. Chiropractors are back. We are excited! Call the clinic on 9787 6999 to book your appointment. Ps. Before you ask, because we know you will, we haven’t heard about Myotherapy yet. Fingers crossed they won’t be far behind

06.01.2022 This is a favourite of mine and I tend to change it a little every time I make it. This is a great entertaining dip/topping. 2 small Lebanese cucumbers Cut down the middle, remove soft seed middle then dice. ... 1 punnet of cherry tomatoes all diced up You can use whole tomatoes, it works best again with middle seed section removed then diced. One red onion diced One avocado diced Juice from on large lemon 1 red chilli (seeds romoved ) diced 1 capsicum seeds removed and diced 1 tbs of sweet chilly sauce (optional) Coriander for extra fresh yummy flavour. Mix all ingredients and pop into your favourite bowl to serve on top of grilled fish or chicken or a potato rosti (like in my image below), toasted pita bread or with your favourite chips. I love this when the suns out and we are just hanging around the pool or in the back yard. Play around with quantities.
