24.01.2022 Mt Gravatt Toastmasters Meeting #572 - Wednesday 23rd September 2020 We had another wonderful evening in our current venue at the Mt Gravatt bowls club. Beth was our Toastmaster and chose Seasons as our theme for the evening, which was very fitting given the recent transition into the warmer weather we've been experiencing lately. Beth did a wonderful job of guiding us through a fun-filled evening. We were treated to a couple of very informative and enjoyable speeches by two ...of our most experienced members, Grant and Theo, who never cease to impress the rest of us with their confidence and effortless delivery. We also had the pleasure of welcoming a couple of new members into our club, as well as a few valued guests who were incredibly brave in their willingness to participate in the evenings events. Sadly, we did have to say farewell to one of our beloved members and part of our executive team, our former Vice President of Public Relations, Jin, who will certainly be missed. We wish him the best of luck with his new business and know that he will no doubt go on to do wonderful things in his career ahead. Thank you to all who participated in making Mt Gravatt Toastmaster Meeting 572 a great night. See more

16.01.2022 Mt Gravatt Toastmasters Meeting #573 Wednesday 7th October 2020 Mt Gravatt Toastmasters Meeting 573 proved to be yet another fun-filled and entertaining night. Jeanie took the reins as our Toastmaster for the evening with the theme FLOWERS, which was again, another well-timed theme given that Spring is well and truly upon us. Jeanie shared with us many interesting facts about flowers including their cultural and historical significance. One of our newest members, Tom, kicke...d things off with a warm-up activity where each member spoke for approximately 20 seconds about a new beginning in their lives. Everyone did a wonderful job of participating and it was great to learn a little more about each our club members, many of whom shared memories of moving to a new country, starting a new job and even parenthood. We were very pleased to welcome a guest by the name of Constantine, who showed tremendous courage by participating in the exercise without hesitation and spoke of being a proud father. Our first speech of the night was given by Lisa, who enlightened us with an informative speech about various communication styles, including her own. Next up Theo delivered a speech for his second meeting in a row and imparted some wisdom about lessons he had learned in his life. Our third speaker of the evening was Grant, who also spoke for his second meeting in a row, about his style of leadership and reminded us all that accepting responsibility and accountability are absolutely vital components of possessing authority. Our fourth and final speaker of the evening was John, who gave us a very thorough look at the importance of evaluation and constructive feedback given to Toastmasters who deliver speeches, in the interest of helping them improve. All of our speakers spoke wonderfully and hats off to Theo and Grant for delivering speeches in back-to-back meetings. Evauluations were delivered confidently and with some valuable feedback from Pam, Anil, Huw and Andrew. Table Topics were delivered by Dale who tied her topics into the theme of the evening beautifully. We were then very pleased to welcome our Area Director, Tania, to the lectern who gave an evaluation of the table topics and our club in general. It was great to have her join us and participate in the evenings events. Pam kept us all accountable for our use of filler-words as our Grunt Master and Sanjai provided a great general evaluation of the evening with some feedback for each of us to consider. Our Club President, Huw, kept us on time throughout the night as our Time Keeper and closed the meeting at 9pm. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and participate in Mt Gravatt Toastmasters 573rd Meeting.
16.01.2022 Mt Gravatt Toastmasters Meeting #574 Yet another great Mt Gravatt Toastmasters Meeting took place this fortnight, with Sanjai as our Toastmaster, who chose the theme LIGHTS. Sanjai did a wonderful job of enlightening us with a very informative and entertaining history of the lightbulb, while sharing many interesting facts about it's creation. Pam was our Round Robin/Warm-up Master this evening and got our creative juices flowing with an exercise requiring everyone to suggest ...an invention that would make our lives easier. It was a great topic and saw everyone participate, even two of our brave visitors, Constantine and Prasanna. Some wonderful suggestions were made, from teleportation devices to overcome the bane of the working world... traffic, to a machine that makes you feel like you've spent a day fishing, while you're at work (I think we could all use one of those). We were treated to three spectacular peeches this evening, two of which were Icebreaker speeches, meaning that they were the very first speeches delivered by two of our newest members, Sam Roff and Thomas Colhoun, who were officially sworn in as members along with Senaka this evening. As you can see in the photos above, the Icebreakers were delivered with energy and passion, with both Sam and Tom sharing their personal stories and how they have managed to overcome fear and the opinions of others in the quest for growth and development. Sam certainly made full use of the entire stage as can be seen in the images above, a bold and commendable effort for a first speech. Theo also managed to get us to once again contemplate our lives and our legacies as he delivered a speech for yet another consecutive meeting, sharing the tale of Scrooge from the iconic story, A Christmas Carol. Jeanie, Beth and Grant provided some very useful feedback for our members to consider during their very positive and thorough evaluations, which will certainly help our newest members become more effective public speakers. Our Club President, Huw, communicated some important information about the club's plans moving forward including an exciting Open House event that we will be hosting to showcase what we do and what can be achieved through the Toastmasters Mt Gravatt experience. Lisa our VP of Membership also provided some clarity for newer members to teach us a little more about the Pathways progam, available to all members. Anil also did a great job of keeping us on time, with his Timer's report. Thank you to everyone, especially our very brave guests, Prasanna and Constantine for participating, and for yet another successful meeting at Mt Gravatt Toastmasters. Don't miss the next one, this coming Wednesday 11th of November.
