21.01.2022 Last term our wonderful Science teacher Mrs Callum nominated Mount Larcom State School for a National Science Week Grantand guess what we won!! With our winning grant our lucky students had the opportunity to visit the wonderful team at Koorana Crocodile Farm. The students had an amazing time and learnt so many great things about crocodiles. Thanks to Mrs Callum we are developing an online experience bringing the ocean, reef, local tidal waterways and farming practices toge...ther, with the support of the local park rangers on Facing Island and the Koorwana Crocodile Farm. Our school will be able to sponsor an egg and track the travels of crocodiles along the coast. We will be able to check in on the youngster, monitor growth and conditions in our local ecosystems. Being located next to an international export harbour, major industries, farming, tourism and other rural pursuits, we want to encourage students to use scientific methods to keep their world healthy. #nationalscienceweek #broadeningyoungminds #kooranacrocodilefarm #mountlarcomstateschool See more

16.01.2022 Today our Year 10 students enjoyed a visit from Melissa from RACQ to talk to us about the Money Whisper Program. This program provides opportunities for students to explore their relationship with their Money Whisperer and the impact this has on their financial control. Using interactive technology, students were able to evaluate some of their current financial behaviours, what it means to be a conscious spender and the role their ‘inner voice’ (the Money Whisperer) may be playing. Strategies for managing their Money Whisperer were explored to empower them to make positive financial decisions which consider the bigger picture of their lives. Thanks again Melissa and the team at RACQ we really appreciate your visit to our school! #RACQOffical #Mtlarcomstateschool #inspiringyoungminds

10.01.2022 4-6 Koorana Crocodile Farm Experience: Last week the 4-6 class learnt a lot about crocodiles in our local environment as part of National Science Week 2020. They did a range of crocodile activities including literacy, numeracy and inquiry learning. When the students got back from the Koorana Crocodile Farm they reflected on their favourite experiences and learning. Students wrote beautiful thank you card to the Lever family which we have posted off to them. Dear Mr & Mrs Lev...er, Thank you for the tour yesterday, my class and I enjoyed visiting your crocodile farm and seeing your amazing crocodiles (and alligators). My favourite part of the tour was holding the baby crocodile. I learned that female crocodiles lay up to 80 eggs once every year. My class and I had so much fun. King regards, Isla, Year 4 Dear Mr & Mrs Lever, Thank you for the tour yesterday. My favourite part was feeding them. I learned that the crocodiles can bite up to 3,000 pounds. Can you tell me how big can a tooth get? Tyler, Year 5 Dear Mr & Mrs Lever, Thank you for the tour yesterday. My favourite part was when the female jumped out of the water to get the meat, feeling the vibrations from the water. Kind regards, Joseph Dear Mr & Mrs Lever, Thank you for the tour yesterday. My favourite part was when I got to ask my questions and sit next to you. I learned that American alligators aren’t aggressive at all and that baby crocs are so cute and soft. Could you tell me how scary it was catching your first crocodile? Kind regards, Malaney Year 6 #nationalscienceweek #kooranacrocodilefarm #Mountlarcomstateschool

01.01.2022 On Wednesday the 12th August, Mrs Murray had the immense pleasure of escorting our Year 9/10 Drama students to the Gladstone Entertainment Centre to perform their version of the play ‘Wisdom’ written by David Burton. In preparation for the production all students have developed their Performing Art skills, especially in the area of Drama. The students have also learned a wide range of other skills through the production, including the making of sets, props and music and sound... coordination. However, possibly even more importantly is the personal growth that has occurred as these talented students have taken on new challenges, and developed confidence and pride in what they have achieved as they work together as part of a ‘theatrical company’. Our Mount Larcom students performed brilliantly, using their confidence to portray their characters with realistic emotion. The audience were riveted, and the attending actors were amazed at the level of professionalism they portrayed! Congratulations on a job well done! See more
