25.01.2022 Yet again we are reminded of the fragility of life. Today marks the 23rd Anniversary. 18 lives lost and 12 injured. Many heroic feats and many broken hearts... Thought I would re-share the short verse I penned in 2015 We Still Remember By BMW 2015 It started in the still of night intentions straight and true. Training to refine their skills protecting me and you. In mid-air two hawks collide a crash of dreadful cost. A nation mourns a tragedy 18 fine men lost. Today, many still remember and sadly reminisce. Some still even shed a tear for the mate they really miss. The families that were broken we never should forget. Their lives were changed forever their hearts may never set. The injured they have suffered though their scars might have all healed the mental anguish stays within them shrouded by the mental shield. That night they lost their loved ones no more will they be back. Now they walk above the clouds in heavens path they track. They hold the moral high ground overwatching all they see. We simply must remember that freedom’s never free. So spare a thought on this sad day reflect and recollect. Glance up to the heavens and mouth, ‘Lest We Forget’.

23.01.2022 Today we remember SASR Trooper David O’Callaghan, who died on 16 April 1982 in a diving accident while participating in training in Bass Strait, Victoria. David was a private in 6RAR when he underwent SAS selection in 1980. Stand down, digger. RIP.

23.01.2022 Today we bow our heads in memory of SGT Brett Wood MG DSM of 2nd Commando Regiment, who was killed in action in Afghanistan by a detonating IED on 23 May 2011. ...Described by his mates as "brave beyond belief" but humble, Brett was awarded the Medal for Gallantry on a previous deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper in 2006. On that occasion he "valiantly lead his platoon to clear enemy positions that were pinning down an infantry company of the United States Army's 10th Mountain Division", the US ambassador to Canberra, Jeffrey Bleich, said, adding that his death was a great loss to the US as well as to Australia. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, Woody. Rest in peace. See more

16.01.2022 The resilience and bravery displayed by Australian Service Contingents (ASC) 1 and 2 during one of the worst humanitarian disasters of the 20th century is exemp...lary. ASC 1 and 2 are being awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation for their service during Operation TAMAR in Rwanda between the dates of 25 July 1994 and 8 March 1996. 16.01.2022 Today we honour the memory of PTE Benjamin Chuck, PTE Timothy Aplin and PTE Scott Palmer of the 2nd Commando Regiment who died in a Black Hawk helicopter crash ...during operations in the Shah Wali Kot, Afghanistan, on 21 June 2010. The three soldiers were serving with the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG). Seven other Australians were injured in the accident. Rest in peace, diggers. See more

14.01.2022 The ANZAC Day Committee goes to considerable lengths so that every person who saw operational service has a specific place to march appropriate to their service.... This has required quite a bit of forensic attention to Australia's operational deployments over the years. One section that has been added to the March in recent years is "South-East Asia (1975-present)" in Group 10. This section was created for those ADF members who served 30 days or more on one or more of a range of operations in South-East Asia after 14 February 1975, resulting in the award of the Australian Service Medal with clasp "South-East Asia". The main people that this section accommodates is those who were sent to Rifle Company Butterworth or RAAF Butterworth between that date and 31 December 1989. If you served for 30 days or more in South-East Asia with the ADF after 14 February 1975, this is the section created for you. Ian Smith Chair ANZAC Day Committee

13.01.2022 A wonderful and fun evening saw us pack into the clubrooms and feast on Christmas Dinner made by Lea and Jon from Lea's Eats. It was another great night and a fitting (social) end to the year. Thank you Lea and John, Merry for organising and those ho helped decorate and set up and clean up..

11.01.2022 Today the hall was veiled for Anzac Day. There is a movement about, asking people to stand in their driveways to observe Anzac Day in lieu of the traditional Dawn Service. If you are thinking of doing this, why not share it? This Anzac Day will be an important part of our social history, and we are keen to record what we can, whether it be by selfies taken in the dawn light, or words written. Perhaps you'd like to take a video when reciting the Ode. Whatever way you choose to commemorate, we are sure that it will lose little of its significance. Please send your photos, etc to [email protected] - Thank You.

11.01.2022 Today we remember LCPL Andrew Jones and LT Marcus Case, who died in two separate incidents in Afghanistan on 30 May 2011. LCPL Andrew Jones of the 9th Force Su...pport Battalion was killed in a green-on-blue attack at Combat Outpost Mashal in the Chora Valley near Tarin Kowt. The rogue afghan soldier who shot Andrew was himself killed a few weeks later by an American Special Forces unit that had tracked him to his home village near the border with Pakistan. Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator and former Commando LT Marcus Case of the 6th Aviation Regiment died when the Australian CH-47D Chinook helicopter in which he was a passenger crashed after losing control. Stand down, diggers, your duty is done. Rest in peace. See more

04.01.2022 A large group joined the RSL and the Mt Pleasant Primary School Senior Students and staff to commemorate Remembrance Day. In perfect weather, the ceremony included the laying of commemorative crosses - one for each of the WW1 fallen - made by the students with the Mt Pleasant Men's Shed. Afterwards we adjourned to the clubrooms for a light meal.

02.01.2022 Happy Birthday Cameron Baird VCMG.

01.01.2022 6 years ago today we lost a true hero. On this day in 2013 Corporal Cameron Baird showed extreme devotion to duty the ultimate self-sacrifice in an assault into... Ghawchak Village, Uruzgan province, Afghanistan. In giving up his life to protect others and for the most conspicuous acts of valour, Cameron was later posthumously awarded Australia’s highest honour, The Victoria Cross. Corporal Baird died how he lived - at the front, giving it his all, without any indecision. He will forever be remembered by his family, mates and the soldiers he served with in the 2nd Commando Regiment. Missed every single day. Without Warning. Lest We Forget. #CameronBairdVCMG #CommandoForLife #WeWillRememberThem
