25.01.2022 M/V Darya Tapti - I imagine the crew are having an uncomfortable time at anchor. Please pray for seafarers as they experience the pitch and roll of 2020's 'crazy ride'.
21.01.2022 Over the weekend we helped save the lives of 13 people who had been missing for over a week in the Solomon Sea. The vessel had reportedly broken down on January... 22, near Alcester Island 585km east of Port Moresby, with thirteen people on board. The Papua New Guinea search and rescue authorities requested our help and last Friday we deployed our Cairns Challenger jet to conduct a search for the vessel, focusing on an area of around 5926 sq kms. During the search, our Challenger jet notified ships in the search area of the missing vessel. One of those ships, the cargo vessel KEN HOPE was able to locate the missing vessel and rescue all on board. This is just another example of the fantastic work our search and rescue team do here in the AMSA Response Centre! They make an incredible difference, and the work they do is very often the difference between life and death for mariners who find themselves in distress. With Australia’s search and rescue region totalling around 10% of the earth’s surface, they're kept very busy. But being able to help our neighbours like Papua New Guinea makes it rewarding. 21.01.2022 Calling all #seafarers! We want to find out how you’re finding life at sea. Take a few minutes to fill out our survey. We use the survey results to understand what life at sea is like from your perspective and encourage the industry to change for the better. https://bit.ly/3qdSUrL
20.01.2022 We are very grateful for the donation made towards our ‘laptops for learning’ program today. This was made possible by the Norwegian Seafarers Union who collect...ed funds to assist bush fire impacted communities. The funds were then distributed with the help of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA). Thank you to all involved, they will be well used. See more
19.01.2022 Let your voice be heard
17.01.2022 We cannot visit the ships. Nor can we bring them ashore.
17.01.2022 Very interesting possibilities... https://www.abc.net.au//seafarers-connect-with-f/13211640
16.01.2022 Feeling relief for the crew of M/V Darya Tapti - finally they steam forward to berth. Sadly, COVID safe restrictions limit our welcome to them. For all those who will receive them please assure them of our best wishes.
15.01.2022 Mission to Seafarers have received the go-ahead for 'bottom of gangway' visits. Today I delivered some hand made beanies, a couple of games and recent newspapers along with other reading material. Nothing can soften the distress and uncertainty felt by seafarers as they endure the lengthened contracts and isolation because of COVID19. Hopefully the Care Box communicates that we are appreciative of them even if we cannot welcome them to Eden with the traditional shore leave opportunities. Today I dropped of a Bon Voyage Care Box to the crew of the Wood-chip Ship Navitec and a Welcome Box to the Log Ship Daiwan Justice.
15.01.2022 The lads have been repainting in the dry dock, China. Nice to see they get some recreation as well. Tough life.
12.01.2022 First-ever after 12 months that we were so delighted (and anxious), after granting of formal exemption, to take 7 seafarers to the Mission facility today for a ...juicy Aussie BBQ, and of course with few beers. Credit goes to NSW Health, Australian Border Force, NSW Police, Gulf Agency Company and Port Kembla Coal Terminal for all the collaboration and humanity shown in reaching out to crew of the detained ship, MV Maryam, and making this possible during such distressing circumstances. Like today, the Mission is committed to continually observe COVID-safe protocols should seafarers from MV Maryam will continue to visit the Mission while detained. See more

07.01.2022 Over 8 months and counting. Around the country, our centres have consistently provided care packs and support services to crews locked on board their vessels th...roughout the pandemic. We spoke to a captain yesterday who said he's visited most of Australia's ports since starting his contract in September 2019. He was grateful for the loving care and support our centres have shown him and his crew. Thank you to every one who has continued to donate to these men and women who keep Australia running. #australialovesseafarers

05.01.2022 The Eden Whale Festival Committee has officially announced that the 2020 festival will not go ahead. It was an extremely tough decision and we know many people ...will be disappointed, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the committee identified community health and safety as a top priority. We thank everyone for their understanding and support and we look forward to welcoming you to an outstanding 2021 festival, which we are already planning! Cat Balou Cruises
04.01.2022 "Imagine a marathon runner arriving at the finish line only to be told that they must immediately run another marathon without rest - this is what our life is l...ike during the pandemic." "The pandemic has brought despair across the world's fleet and we feel that no one cares about us." These are the words with which Capt. Hedi Marzougui has just opened the proceedings of this evening's High-Level Side Event on COVID-19 and Maritime Crew Changes: A humanitarian, safety, and economic crisis happening right now. #WorldMaritimeDay
03.01.2022 Calm conditions on Twofold Bay this morning with a gentle breeze from the southwest. Today's forecast is for northerly winds up to 30 knots offshore, hence the... strong wind warning in place for the Eden coast today. A slight haze is reducing visibility, the surface of the bay is calm with with a swell of less than a metre from the southeast, and the temperature is 12 degrees. 02.01.2022 Seafarers' Service - 9am on Sunday 1 November 2020. Yes - Tomorrow. All Welcome Rotary Park on Bramble Street, Eden. As usual our service will both remember the Fisherman of Eden who were lost at sea and also show our general appreciation for all those who make their living by the sea. In addition, this year we will specifically celebrate the contribution that the Tuna Industry made to the shaping of Eden. A memorial plaque celebrating the Tuna Industry will be unveiled. ... The service will be conducted by Mission to Seafarers' Chaplain, Reverend Michael Palmer (The service will only be called off because of heavy rain. In showers or light drizzle we will continue. If in doubt BYO umbrella. As seafarers endure the elements for us ..... so should we for them!)
