25.01.2022 A big day like the Steve Glasson Tournament is only a success with the help of our Members. Congratulation to Jim Fary for a magnificent job and a big thanks to the many helpers on the day. As you can see from the photos, Peter Harney is busy and Richard Coleman is meditating!

25.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we would like to advise you all that Cliff Harrison passed away suddenly on Sunday 12th April. An intimate family service was held yesterday, due to current restrictions on the number of people allowed at a funeral. The tribute was recorded for friends and family to watch. Here is the link for any that would like to see it, and share in his life story. Thank you, love from his wife Gloria, son Lindsay, and daughter Julie https://youtu.be/r57u7TZjzDg Clifford Harrison 1:15pm Wilson Clifford Harrison 1:15pm Wilson

22.01.2022 An update on Brad Matheson. Due to the ineligibilty of Brads last opponent in the Eastern Ranges Novice Competition, he now plays again on Sunday morning, 9.20 at Croydon BC. We wish him good luck.

21.01.2022 Are you OK? Now our face to face social contact has been stopped, lets look out for each other by ringing, emailing or messaging each other. Heres a blast from the past -Victorious 5th side from Season 15/16

21.01.2022 PINEWOOD COMMUNITY BANK supports our Club. Were happy to be part of the team and support our local community, its what makes us different from the other banks! Yesterday our Chairman - Robert Davies visited the Mount Waverley Bowling Club to affirm our continued sponsorship and support of the club. The Club opened in 1964 and has 184 members with around half of those continuing to play. At this stage the club is able to open for practice sessions which need to be booked and... numbers are limited to 10 per green. Head of Marketing at the Club - Howard Rose told us that "The hardest part during lock-down, from a bowling perspective, was not being able to exercise in the fresh air and not being able to socialise with other members - Zoom meetings are not the same!" We hope as restrictions continue to lift the club will be able to go from strength to strength and were very proud to contribute towards their success. See more

20.01.2022 We may have been in isolation but there is still work going on around the Club - social distancing being observed of course. Remember the yellow seats which were in disrepair? Look at them now. Painted green.

19.01.2022 Meet one of our newest bowlers, Brad Matheson. Brad played in the Eastern Ranges Novice Singles recently. In his first game he held his opponent to zero! Score was 25-0. In the next round, a quarter final,he was very unlucky to lose by a point. His opponent was Mark Snell, son of the noted bowler John Snell. Brad has quickly established himself as a very promising bowler in the short time he has been playing.... But then what would you expect from the son of Robin and Graeme? See more

12.01.2022 Something to remind us of what we are missing

11.01.2022 the Eastern Ranges Novice Singles, played on Sunday, Brad defeated David Leitch from Berwick 21-7. Consequently he made the semi-final at Mulgrave Country Club on Monday night. After a very close contest against Terry White of Monbulk. Brad went down 19-21. On the third last end when the Marker and Opponent both agree Brad had shot, Brad decided to measure as he was not sure. His honesty cost him the shot as his opponent was holding. Who knows if this cost him the game as well, as he would have had the mat. A fabulous effort for such a new bowler - and he will still qualify for this competition next year!

08.01.2022 This post is taken from Mt Eliza BC The clubs top bowler, a guy who had won every club championship numerous times, was known for carrying a little black book which regularly consulted during games. Whenever he stood on the mat, with a particularly difficult situation, he would take out this little book and then make a brilliant shot. Eventually he died and there was great interest in this book. many of the clubs members approached the mans widow asking what she was planni...ng to do with this legendary book. As a shrewd woman who was also in need of funds, she decided to auction the book off to the highest bidder. The auction was held at the club and after some very spirited bidding a member, who had often finished second to the now deceased champion, took possession of the much sought after and now quite expensive book. He could scarcely wait to take the book home and peruse its pages at leisure. He sat himself down in his study and began to leaf through the pages - and he found that the pages were blank! He finally came to a single page that had one sentence on it. It said; "Small circle on the inside."

07.01.2022 Spotted in Black Rock

07.01.2022 Unfortunately all three sides failed to make tomorrows finals after losing their matches today. But the Club is proud of all our Pennant players who played this season and represented our Club so well. Good luck to the side playing in Tuesday Pennant final next week. We play at home so if you can come and support the team please do.

07.01.2022 I know Mount Waverley members are all doing the right thing. We all want the numbers down so we can again socialize on the Greens and in the Clubhouse Lets remember the Spanish flu and how hard it must have been then.

06.01.2022 The gardening group are still hard at it. The roses are nearly all finished and some pruning has been started.

03.01.2022 BORED BBC COMMENTATOR NARRATES PENGUIN PARADE Theres not much live sport on at the moment and thats left BBC Commentator Andrew Cotter looking for things ...to commentate. So he turned his hand to commentate Phillip Islands Penguin Parade. The Scottish broadcaster became an internet sensation last month when his self-isolation and boredom inspired a hilarious video of him narrating the antics of his labradors, Olive and Mabel, called Game of Bones. I knew all about the penguins of Phillip Island before this and have visited Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road or Mornington Peninsula every year for the past fifteen years. I love it all down there so this was a natural fit, says Andrew. We reckon hes nailed this. What would you like to hear commentary for?

03.01.2022 Last Saturday all three MWBC sides won. A great result. Of course that means the President shouts the bar. Sadly he was not there, neither was the Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer. Mr President this great result wont be forgotten, nor the promise of a free drink!

02.01.2022 The weather held off and the Steve Glasson Tournament was a great success. The day was won by the team from Pakenham, skipped by Trent Gribbon with Lead Terry McRedmond, Second Peter Bott and Third Keith Archer. Runner Up was the team from Mulgrave skipped by Peter Gawthorne. First game winner was the team from Blackburn, skipped by John West. Second game winner was the team from Monbulk, skipped by Jack Pater ... Third game winner was the team from Mount Waverley skipped by Bernie Brennan And in a surprising coincidence, the Raffle winner was Graeme Spry who won last year as well! See more

02.01.2022 Re Corona Virus: This memo is to further update you on the action that your Executive Committee has taken because of the current pandemic, considering our governments most recent directives. Effective immediately the club will be closed until further notice. This means that there will be no sanctioned activities in the clubhouse.... If a member wishes to undertake practice this is permissible but use of the club rooms is not. Social distancing must be adhered to. The AGM scheduled to be held on May 1st, a separate bulletin will be issued on or around April 1st, 2020. In the meantime, your committee has your interests in mind and will keep you informed as time progresses and the situation changes. Yours sincerely, Richard Sluggett Ian Wilson President Secretary

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Richard Sluggett Mens Singles Champion 2020 Lindsay Markham, Ladies Singles Champion 2020.... Bang-wham yes its Champion Sluggett !! In typical fashion Richard played a bold strike with his last bowl when needing two shots to win. He took out Bernie Brennans carefully drawn second shot to hold three shots and take the Championship after a tightly fought contest On rink 10 this was not Jill Andersons day. When Lindsay overcomes her devils she is a difficult player to beat, This was one of those days and Jill was unable to match her earlier good form of the semi-final. Lindsay steadily pulled way and in the end won comfortably 25 10. Thanks to Sarina Bonnici and Ken Chapman for marking and Jim Fary for updating the scoreboards.
