22.01.2022 Someone Must Pay. Lynne was Artist-in-Residence at the Old School during August. With a working title of Someone Must Pay, Lynnes memoir formed the basis of an inspirational writers workshop held in Mt Wilson last weekend. Someone Must Pay opens with Lynne assuming responsibility for the cultural integration of a Chinese-US joint-venture located in a remote region of China. Then, in the lead up to the Global Financial Crisis of 2009 Lynne is left to close a bus...iness. During this time Lynne receives threats to her personal safety and a bodyguards is assigned to keep her safe while she attempts to navigate her way through a maze of foreign legislation and legal matters. During the workshop, Lynne related her own writers journey while also offering great advice on writing our own memoir Lynne says, Everyone has a story to tell. See more

21.01.2022 Jane Guthleben recently completed her residency at the Old School with a well-attended exhibition of her works in the Village Hall. Jane gave a fascinating talk providing a brief history of still life art, from Ancient Rome in 200BC, through the religious paintings of da Vinci and onto 17th Century Holland. It is this final era that fascinates Jane as her work reinterprets Dutch still life art in an Australian context. She paints Australian flora, in the Australian light, using Australian insects and birds as accents. A beautiful selection of works produced during her stay will be exhibited at M Contemporary Gallery, Darlinghurst on 13-28 February, 2021. The images below are: i) Phoenix arrangement; Regeneration after the fires ii) Mt Wilson arrangement with Turkish Bath and a cicada.

17.01.2022 Jane Guthleben, our Artist in Residence at The Old School in November, 2020 will present a solo exhibition at M Contemporary Gallery, 8/15-19 Boundary Street, Darlinghurst, 11 - 28 February 2021. A month spent in historic Mt Wilson is the focus of Jane’s latest suite of 52 paintings, which celebrates the regeneration of indigenous flora and fauna after last summer’s devastating bushfires. Her paintings reflect her daily encounters with wildlife that emerged from the blackened... earth, tree trunks and rock faces after the fires. Jane is fascinated with Dutch still life painting and reinterpreting it with Australian flora and fauna. The burnt out landscape and its regrowth provided plenty of subject matter for her many small studies and larger works. The unique adaptation by native flora to bushfire and cultural burning is of particular interest. See more
