25.01.2022 During the week in dropped in at Bells Reef Retreat. A project close to my hart. Have spent countless hours, on and off over ten years with the owners, their family, friends and volunteers. The building, originally the Chum street church in Bendigo was dismantled, transported to Maldon and rebuilt. A toilet block was built along with a bush kitchen with Pizza oven. Its a beutiful setting and now with the gardens and sculptures (some i did) are more established it looks awesome.

19.01.2022 Hi all, was looking back at some of my work of the last 30 years and realized so much never made it to this page. Well a lot of it was before face book, the internet for that matter. Getting old me thinks, I'm 56 this year and I've been building for nearly 40 years. Never under estimate the ware and tear on a body if its your main tool in your working life. As some of you may know I've been winding back Murray Berrill Constructions over the last 2 yrs or so and trying to lim...it my physical work and contracts and studying hard. I had to find something that could utilize my knowledge base and see me through the next 15 years or so of my working life. So I completed my Diploma of Building Surveying last year and past at distinction level. I am, at this moment, attempting to become a Registered Building Inspector and will make my application with the VBA soon. Anyhow as I'm feeling a bit introspective during this attempt at career change. I thought I'd put together a slide show and say a big thanks to all my clients over the years for always giving me such interesting dreams to build. And to all the workers, sub contractors and apprentices that helped me along the way, thank you, you were all awesome. This slide show, these houses that will be around long after we have gone are as much your legacy as mine. Be proud. I'll keep you posted about my application, Cheers, PS All the photos won't fit in one post So I'll break it up. Murray See more

14.01.2022 Bendigo Sustainability Awards have awarded the winner in the Home and Garden category to Murray Berrill and Kelly Effenberg for all the work they have done on t...heir property. The judges were impressed with the sustainable approach to urban living, energy and water efficiencies and the application of Permaculture principles. Murray and Kelly have turned their 120 year old cottage into a restored, renovated and sustainable house that is a comfortable place to live. The backyard was barren apart from a few fruit trees and they have turned this into a productive permaculture garden. This is a great example of how you can turn older buildings into sustainable dwellings, easy on energy and waste and self sufficiency on a smaller suburban block. Solar panels, recycled materials and creative use of space including a new modern addition as a studio where they lived while gutting and fixing the cottage up with insulation and extra light. Outside the garden has over 100 edible species and now retains water in the landscape using permaculture principles making this old cottage a great place to live. Congratulations! See more

12.01.2022 Hi everyone. Been awhile, so I thought I'd share my lockdown project. They said, stay and work from home, so I did. Carport, driveway, stone walls, pillers and paving. Thought I'd wait till the plants were in before posting.

07.01.2022 Ok, here's one for the wine lovers. What to do with dead space under the stairs? Create an easy access wine cellar. Proud of this one.

03.01.2022 8 Rose st cottage Almost ready to put down the slab for my workshop. A man needs a shed. The permaculture garden is starting to become a forest. Edible landscaping to create micro climates work so well. Love it.
