06.01.2022 Lest We Forget Let us Remember our Muckadilla Boer War Soldiers. Tom Ball served with the Molong Mounted Rifles. He was a great horseman and a crack shot. He originally trained with the Molong Company of Foot Infantry before going to join the War in South Africa with his brother Sam Ball. Tom served in the Orange Free State, Transvaal and Kimberley. ... After the war, Tom married and the became a farmer at Molong. Later bought a property at Charleville. He sold this property to his son Tom and moved to Roma to buy the Greenlea Cafe in Mc Dowall Street Roma with his daughter Jean Bowden who was the wife of Dooley Bowden. Later the family moved to Summerhope Muckadilla where Dooley was manager for his Uncle Don Grieve. Tom established a terrific garden and orchard over the next sixteen years. The family then moved to Toowoomba where Tom later passed away at 99 years 9 months. ************************************************************* Captain Alfred H Dufrayer worked on Amby Downs before enlisting to serve in South Africa. During three conflicts he was recommended for the Victoria Cross. He was awarded the Queen Victoria Scarf - a unique scarf crocheted by the Queen herself.
