22.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a hot summer, with no forecast for significant rain. Level 1 water restrictions apply until 10 December. Water restrictions target outdoor water use, but there are some indoor water uses that are subject to restrictions, such as filling indoor swimming pools and water features, and operating car wash businesses in shopping centre car parks. The restrictions apply to everyone in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra. This includ...es all residents and businesses. If we all do our bit and save a little, together well make a big difference. Using drinking water for firefighting, testing and related activities is not restricted. Whats changed? The biggest changes Tick icon - large You can only use a watering can or bucket to water your garden before 10 am and after 4 pm. Tick icon - large You can only use drip irrigation or smart watering systems for a maximum of 15 mins a day per watering zone, before 10 am and after 4 pm. Tick icon - large You can only top up an existing pool or spa, using a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, watering can or bucket for a maximum of 15 minutes a day. You can only do this to replace water lost through evaporation, not to replace water deliberately removed from the pool or spa. Tick icon - large You can only wash your vehicles with a bucket and sponge. Tick icon - large You need a permit to fill new or renovated pools and spas that hold more than 500 L. 15.01.2022 Why Prune? Here are some of the most common reasons for pruning: To preserve the shape of the plant To restrict the size of the plant (much better, though, to choose a plant that will grow to fit the space rather than being forced to constantly prune).... To encourage productive growth (e.g. flowering shoots on roses and fruiting wood in the orchard). To remove dead wood To remove old canes from the base (as in plants like May bushes and abelia). To thin a canopy and allow air movement through branches. To form plants into special shapes topiarising, standardising or espalier. To encourage colourful new growth (e.g. new red leaves on photinia). To maintain a hedge or screen To stop upward growth on plants and encourage branching. To reduce competition by thinning out crowded growth To remove suckers from root stocks on grafted plants See more

10.01.2022 Latest news on water : There are restrictions on water usage being introduced into Sydney. From Sydney water, the rules are : * Water lawns and gardens with a sprinkler, irrigation system or hose fitted with a trigger nozzle any day before 10 am and after 4 pm *. Use sprinklers or watering systems to establish new lawn and gardens at any time for the first 14 days... *. Use water to cool people and animals hose paths, driveways and other hard surfaces for safety, health, emergency, construction or surface discoloration reasons only *. Wash vehicles, trailers, boats or buildings using a bucket, high pressure cleaning equipment or a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle *. Use bore water, recycled water or rainwater (as long as the tank isnt topped up from the drinking water supply). Some government restrictions apply to bore water and water extracted from rivers, so always check with your local council or WaterNSW *. Use water for fire fighting or to test fire systems. I trust you find this helpful Muddy

06.01.2022 Pruning is an essential gardening skill. When you prune correctly, you encourage healthy growth and flowering (in the case of flowering plants), as well as good looks. For most shrubs and trees, it helps to prune at the right time. Some are best pruned in winter; some right after flowering.
