22.01.2022 Mudgee souvenirs of days gone by... this lovely little jug shows Exchange Corner - locals will recognise what is currently the Westpac building.
21.01.2022 Thanks for all your responses to the last post. Sounds as if pocket watch case is going to be the most popular response. Heres another. 12cms in length. A little more difficult perhaps..
21.01.2022 Another interesting local history article by our friends at the Mudgee Guardian...
21.01.2022 An unknown portrait, perhaps of sisters. I believe that what the person was holding had some significance. For instance, if a book was being held it could suggest the person was literate, or if a women, that she was a governess. Any ideas of what the objects might represent here?
21.01.2022 We are always pleased when someone pops in to donate old photos to our collection. This is a recent donation of class photo from 1931. Can anyone spot any familiar faces?
19.01.2022 Lil was a researcher with us for many years :)
19.01.2022 As part of our collection, we hold a range of parish maps and older mud maps for Mudgee and the local area. When our researchers are asked to investigate the history of an older property, these are a great starting point.
19.01.2022 The Mudgee Museum will be closed Wednesday July 22, but will return to normal hours from Thursday. We apologise for any inconvenience.
19.01.2022 Thanks to those people who offered a possible answer to our earlier unknown objects. Here is another for you to ponder - its about 20 cms in diameter.

18.01.2022 Last week, a man popped his head into the museum to make a donation to the Historical Society in thanks for the help provided to him - a wonderful well researched and well produced book on his ancestors. Some of the names that feature : Kurtz, Stevens, Hook, Laycock. Thank you John.
18.01.2022 Happy Australia Day! What better way to mark the day than visiting a museum to immerse yourself in some local history. Heres a souvenir of Australia Day 1938.
18.01.2022 Today we have taken the decision to close the Mudgee Museum for the next month to protect our volunteers and visitors from the spread of Covid 19. We plan to review this decision on April 21st and will post an update at that time. Please note that the Seniors Morning Tea planned for March 31 has also been cancelled. We know many people look forward to that and we will reschedule it when we can. Orders for books are temporarily suspended. If you have already been in touch..., your order will be processed, but no new orders will be sent. If you would like to reserve a copy of a book to be shipped when we reopen, let us know and we will do our best to get it to you when it is possible to do so. It is still possible to request family history research to be conducted for you. Our research team has access to many resources at home. Please call, email or message the Museum and we will get back to you to make arrangements. Self research using the Museums resources is not available until the Museum reopens. Thanks for your understanding and we hope we will be able to reopen soon.

15.01.2022 Missing the tractor at Rocket Park? Good news, you can now come visit it at the museum. Thanks to the Pedron Family and Mid-Western Regional Council for making this happen!
14.01.2022 Weve shared this photo before, but its a particularly touching item from our collection thats worth another look this Anzac Day. This pocketwatch belonged to Private Vivian McGrath of the 18th Battalion of the Australian Infantry, who was killed in action in France in 1916, aged just 19. He was buried as an unknown, but in 1955 his body was exhumed and reburied in London. This watch was found on his body and allowed him to be identified. It is now housed at the museum, just one small part of our collection honouring our local servicemen and women. Lest we forget them.
14.01.2022 Any ideas on this one? One suggestion was that it may have something to do with horses?
12.01.2022 Exciting news... the Mudgee Historical Society has received a $20,000 grant to build an accessible toilet for the museum. We hope to have it built as soon as possible for the benefit of our visitors! https://www.mudgeeguardian.com.au//a-gem-of-the-mudgee-t/

11.01.2022 Part of our exhibit on the old Mudgee Gaol..
10.01.2022 If anyone can identify the unknown soldiers in these portraits, that would be wonderful. And if anyone has any enquiries about their ancestors from Mudgee and district who served in WW1, one of our researchers, Sandy, has completed much research in this area.
10.01.2022 The Federal Brewery opened in 1904 and famously brewed the beer that came to be known as Mudgee Mud. The photo of the building was taken in the 1950s and the photo of the bottling department is from around 1930.
09.01.2022 Unknown wedding portrait no. 3. Any suggestions on time or place? We would be extra happy if someone could identify the couple.

Thank you also to The Property Shop for the loan of the BBQ and marquee. We hope everyone enjoyed the day!
01.01.2022 Heres some old buttons that have been unearthed. Top 2 on the left are quite distinctive. Anyone think they may be from a uniform?
01.01.2022 Our extensive photo collection contains some beautiful wedding portraits but they are sadly unidentified.. as yet. Anyone recognise the bride and groom?
