23.01.2022 The last of our beautiful unknown wedding portraits. Anyone recognise the bride?

22.01.2022 This poster shows local stock and station agents from 1914. Mudgee is represented by W.P. Mitchell of Mitchell & Malone. Mr Mitchell was also a local Alderman whose mild illness was reported in the Mudgee Guardian in 1917. Hard to imagine that information being printed today, but it was quite usual for the papers to report such matters back then.

20.01.2022 This vintage tin has nothing to do with being alive, alive oh... Have you ever tried a Berwick Cockle?

19.01.2022 Can you plot where this milestone was originally located?

18.01.2022 Next time you’re at the Mid-Western Regional Council Library, check out the new display featuring the Camping Tree at Menah. This will be available for viewing for the next month or so.

18.01.2022 Here's some old buttons that have been unearthed. Top 2 on the left are quite distinctive. Anyone think they may be from a uniform?

16.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020

16.01.2022 We are always pleased when someone pops in to donate old photos to our collection. This is a recent donation of class photo from 1931. Can anyone spot any familiar faces?

13.01.2022 A visitor passionate about tractors visiting the museum keen to inspect our collection..

13.01.2022 As part of our collection, we hold a range of parish maps and older mud maps for Mudgee and the local area. When our researchers are asked to investigate the history of an older property, these are a great starting point.

13.01.2022 Part of our exhibit on the old Mudgee Gaol..

13.01.2022 For those of you who have an interest in research, the State Archives have a range of webinars on topics such as 'Researching your house and property', 'Gaol Photographs', 'School records', 'Convict Indents'. Check it out here: https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archives/webinars

12.01.2022 Lil was a researcher with us for many years :)

11.01.2022 An unknown portrait, perhaps of sisters. I believe that what the person was holding had some significance. For instance, if a book was being held it could suggest the person was literate, or if a women, that she was a governess. Any ideas of what the objects might represent here?

11.01.2022 A snapshot from our ornithological display which was acquired in the the 1960's or1970's by one of the founding members of the Historical Society.

10.01.2022 Another unknown portrait from our collection. Sometimes the photographer's studio stamp ( seen at the bottom of this photo) can give you a clue as to when and where it was taken.

09.01.2022 If anyone can identify the unknown soldiers in these portraits, that would be wonderful. And if anyone has any enquiries about their ancestors from Mudgee and district who served in WW1, one of our researchers, Sandy, has completed much research in this area.

08.01.2022 Thanks to those people who offered a possible answer to our earlier unknown objects. Here is another for you to ponder - it's about 20 cms in diameter.

08.01.2022 Unknown wedding portrait no. 3. Any suggestions on time or place? We would be extra happy if someone could identify the couple.

08.01.2022 Last week, a man popped his head into the museum to make a donation to the Historical Society in thanks for the help provided to him - a wonderful well researched and well produced book on his ancestors. Some of the names that feature : Kurtz, Stevens, Hook, Laycock. Thank you John.

07.01.2022 It looks as though we have strong contenders for the names of the bride and groom in our last unknown wedding portrait photo. Anyone recognise the couple in this photo?
