18.01.2022 1917 BSA SHTLE No 1 Mk III*, 303. A First World War rifle with a history of Australian use, probably in both wars, this .303 is in very good condition overall and, best of all, has a superb bore. The 1944 Lithgow barrel looks virtually new. The BSA received a factory refurbishment before the end of the Second World War (4/45). Remarkably for a rifle of this age and service history, it has matching numbers on the receiver, bolt, nose cap and even the fore-end timber. The metal...work and timber are in great condition, the only mark against its originality being the fitting of a Central sight base on the left side, which required some inletting of the stock. The butt and top-wood behind the rear sight appear to be the original 1917 issue, while the rest was fitted by Lithgow Small Arms during the refurbishment.
