25.01.2022 This week was always meant to be my last week for a little while, but the circumstances are alot different than I anticipated. Pending the government announcements tomorrow it looks like all non essential services will be ceasing, which includes our music lessons. All parents and students will be updated via sms once I know for sure, but right now I predict that we are finished for now. ... Stay well, and take all this extra time at home as an opportunity to practice more than youve ever had time for! Ill always be here for suggestions on what to play next xoxo

24.01.2022 Sharing music doesnt need to be a huge hurdle, it can be a social, fun interaction without pressure. Kids latch onto patterns quickly and by introducing easy, predictable patterns in a relateable way a student who has literally just met me 5min ago gets to walk away with a new song learnt. Thats pretty cool. Todays bring a friend lesson definitely left a smile on these girls faces!

23.01.2022 My overhead camera and boom have arrived, which were purchased as part of the Create NSW Digital Business Grant. This will certainly make presenting or recording demonstration videos a lot easier (instead of somehow balancing my phone under my chin )

16.01.2022 SO... WHO GETS A SMIGGLE GIFT CARD? I have finally got around to tallying the totals from the Term of Twenty Challenge that I undertook with the students. Students had to complete 20 sightreading cards and complete 20 piece challenges before term end. I promised students would go in the draw to get a $10 smiggle gift card, however Smiggle no longer offer $10 so it is $20! I have decided that five students will be taking home a $20 gift card, as they all put in the hard yards..., particularly at the end of term to get everything completed. Great work! That will be Noah, Frankie, Sebastian, Georgie and Rachel. A special mention goes to Jayden who was only one challenge away from completing at the end of last term, but his participation in a school performance meant our last lesson was missed, otherwise he would of got it completed in time. Jayden will be receiving a special Christmas music book as recognition of his hard work.

15.01.2022 Last week of school so lessons are pretty laid back, some students have brought a buddy so its been improvisation, learning new songs and lots of games!

14.01.2022 I am not one to preach to students to do certain amounts of practice, but SOME is better than none...and at some point without practice between lessons progress stalls and that isnt fun for the teacher or the student.

12.01.2022 Day 3 of 30min practice session. Today I listened to a recording a few times while following the score with the aim of internalising the rhythm a little better. I worked on the few little sections where the rhythm could be smoother and at the end of my session put all of that work into the whole piece. Piece by Elissa Milne: Mischief, Pepperbox Jazz book 1

12.01.2022 Day 2/page 2. First video is at the start of the session, the second after 30minutes of practice. Yes its a little faster but note accuracy improving too. From here Ill be working in little sections, particularly to improve syncopation.

04.01.2022 For anyone wondering when lessoms might be returning... were still right in the thick of newborn life which means days are still very unpredictable. Once theres more consistency/predictability to our days Ill be ready to see students again.
