25.01.2022 Under 10.5 report: A terrific effort from the lads today. We're setting weekly goals, first to ball, tackles etc and they are smashing them out of the park. The improvement week to week is really noticeable and the boys can sense it as well. Great performances today from Niels (The Belgian Bombshell), Jerome and James. Highlight efforts from Corbin, deciding to leave his man and read the play to intercept down back. Hammer (Hamish) had a cracking run that kept going, too far ...this time but the intent was awesome. We had some crunching tackles and a bunch of first at ball moments. It's just great to watch this team keep growing each week. Special thanks to our ever growing list of helpers and coaches, Jimmy, Jeff, Damir, Max for goal umpiring and Joost Decker who is the brains of the whole operation. Love our community at the Spartans. Can't wait for next week! - Coach Wazza See more

25.01.2022 Under 10.5s match report: Played the Coomera Magpies, went hard, went good, stopped at nothing, gave em heaps, went better in all the areas we wanted to. Don't wanna single out anyone cause it was one in all in. Pumped for our last game, this Sunday, at home, against Southport, we'll give them heaps too. Go Spartans! - Coach Wazza.

24.01.2022 U'8 Green Machine Today we came up against a strong Broady team and we started the First quarter slow until Harry , chase , Matty got going in the midfield and we kicked the last 4 goals of the quarter. The second Half was even better Hunter , Boston , little cooper kicking a few goals each . Sunni went real close to kicking his first goal .. olli was solid in defence again and led the team great . Jack M helped fill in as well and put in a great game with us . Took some strong marks and kicked a few as well . This was our best team effort and I am a very proud coach . Thanks heaps to all parents who came down and cheered us all on , they boys loved it . Thanks

24.01.2022 Great training session tonight u8.5s.no wonder these kids are getting a big reputation on the coast.loving watching these boys strut their skills

24.01.2022 Spartans u8.5 blue v Ormeau bulldogs --------------------------------------------------------- With 2 games of the footy season to go it would be easy for this great little side to ease off after a fantastic season but no that didnt happen today.Another dominating performance and great team effort really showcased just how much talent we have in this age group.Great games again today by William,Cooper,Nate and Jack and the great skills of Matthew ,Knox and todays captain Reef... made this encounter quite one sided although hats off to Ormeau who showed great improvement from when we played them earier in the season. It was great to see Lauclan and Tyler, two of our newer players kick goals and really look hungry for the ball.Little Flynn was again amoungst the goals and the noise from the crowd when he does kick a goal is deafing. We have many skilled young footballers amoungst both our 2 u8 sides and it is a credit to all the boys and parents who regularly commit to training not only because they love it but want to improve.A great 4 quarter effort today boys ,very proud of you boys the way you play your footy, also big thanks to all todays supporters whos cheering and supporting was awesome. 24.01.2022 Under 10s Coaches Report Today we came up against a big, strong Burleigh White. From the get go, we could see we were in for a battle and to be honest, I think the boys were a little shocked on how hard the Burleigh team were playing. It’s usually us that’s the more aggressive at the ball, but in the first quarter we were not. At quarter time I asked more from the boys and they delivered. Lead by Nash who was a go to man and stopped the Burleigh boys from moving forwa...rd. Cameron came alive with some great goals and Cohen, our Captain, was doing his thing everywhere. Into the second half it was a battle all the way with the boys wearing the injuries to prove it. Then, out of nowhere came JETT WITH SOME COURAGEOUS attacks at the ball and also kicking some great goals. It really was good to see the boys dig deep and battle all the way to the end. I'm so proud of all the boys and their SPARTAN SPIRIT! Today was a tough one, but the boys showed just how tough they are as a group. Coach Dean

24.01.2022 Under 9.5 .A good comeback from last week the boys still seem to have lost the WANT FOR THE BALL.,,But some good passages of play from the boys in the middle Finn stepping up in the middle and didnt disappoint to Nash taking some very strong marks Jaydens speed Aydens tackling Jordy and camerons determination to get that ball The captin Cohen getting the crumbs Jack with his speed and a couple of goals big Toby dominating the ruck and Jacob max and mathewdoing their bit aswell

23.01.2022 Great training tonight Under 9’s! We had 20 training at the ‘optional’ skills session and the session was first class. You have 2 very proud coaches and the great commitment you boys have for improvement is showing on game day. Coaches Lee and Rob

23.01.2022 Under 10.5s match report. Last game of the year and we took on a formidable opponent in Southport White. Again we heard an opposition coach comment on how much we've improved since they last played us. It was a spirited effort from all the lads. I continue to be impressed and enthused by their attitude and effort. I'm so excited to see what we can bring to the table next year in the more expansive under 11.5s comp. I want to acknowledge and thank a number of people. Coach Jo...ost for his energy, footy smarts and teaching abilities, we'd dead set be lost without him. Hans (Pops) for running our magnets and rotations so all 17 kids were getting game time, legend. Damir - team manager- for running the gear, team sheets, awards and a bunch more, fantastic. Jimmy for setting and counting our qtr by qtr targets which were our focus in the back half of the season and a brilliant idea. Mark and Ron for their help and knowledge at training, teaching the boys skills and footy nouse, made training so much better. To all our parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and family members who got the boys to training and games and showed up to support and encourage, without you we wouldn't have a team. Finally, to Dean, our club president who has lead the club brilliantly this year and to the rest of the coaching group, our committee and volunteers, your commitment to a "whole of club" approach has been outstanding. We truly are a community club. The more we do together, the better we get. I'll email everyone this week about our informal summer sessions and we'll see you all at the Presentation Day on Nov 1. Thanks again. Go Spartans!! Pics from today to come shortly and Corbin, we have your little brother Ethan's drink bottle :) - Coach Wazza See more

21.01.2022 Under 9.5 and 8.5 mixed team game report...what a battle from both teams. But the SPARTANS PROVED TO STRONG FOR PAC PINES IN THE END.We played the game with a mixture of two age groups but you wouldnt of known it with Nate,Willian, Chase, Cooper, and Harry more than holding their own and proving themselves to be stars of the future it was a pleasure to coach them today To the Under 9.5s thankyou so much for a incredible season today you played you hearts out and you showed me ...just how great each and everyone of you are .Jacob was our captain today and played a great game Jack was our player of the match and showed me some great kicking and marking thing that he has really improved on throuout the year Maxy put in a big effort to play infront and contest evey ball that came his way Cohen plays like a boy twice his size every game and filled his role all year Ayden played in the middle most of the year and is our tackling machine and when ive asked him to play in differnt zones to put a stop to other teams moving forward he has committed all year,Big toby stepped up mid season and really came alive with some dominant ruck work and some strongplays and big kicks which toby and i have worked on this year,To Cameron who came to the club this year and has slotted into the team so well and proved himself to be a star of the future with some great skills on the football feild and Jordan who has played most of the year in the middle being our BULLDOG IN THE MIDDLE but today we moved him around and he didnt let his foot off the peddle and kicking some amazing goals, and last but not least its a sad end to the season for finn aka Sergeant who unfortunately broke his hand and will miss the last game but his effort throughout the season has not gone un noticed And THANK YOU TO ALL THE PARENTS WHO SUPPORTED US ALL SEASON AND BEING A PART OF THIS GREAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE....CHEERS TO ALL... COACH DEAN. See more

21.01.2022 spartans u8.5 blue v pac pines white ----------------------------------------------------------- Our last game of the season and our "grandfinal".The boys run out onto the ground through a guard of honour formed by all the parents, clapping and cheering the boys on.These awesome boys played awesome again. With our super centre combo of William,Cooper and Aiden we always had first use of the ball into the forwards.Nate,Matthew,Reef and Lauclan found lots of space and kept the go...al umpire busy. After swapping positions,Knox came into his own kicking goals aplenty. Some of the passages of play today were so slick it was like watching a under 14s game. The silky skills of Jack,Jacob,Aiden,Cooper,Matthew and Nate is first class and with the huge improvement from Reef,Lauclan,Tyler and Flynn,it is just great to sit back and watch these boys do their thing. A great last game today boys to finish an unbeaten season off.Big thanks to these amazing kids who always turn up to training wanting to improve and the attitude they have to their football is very inspiring. Big thanks to Pete our manager, whos done an amazing job helping me out, without your hard work things wouldnt have run so smoothly. Thanks to Ernie for your help at training and stepping up when needed. Lastly to all the parents of these boys for your committment in getting these boys to training and matches,a very big thankyou. I am honoured to have coached this special team , the way they have played and also the great spirit and friendship they have all built. One very proud coach Lee See more

19.01.2022 Spartans Footy Tip results Well it was a tight finish between Joost and Lee for top spot with the deciding game to be last nights game with the Pies and Port to determine the winner. Joost had been leading the competition for a few weeks after using the one joker (Double Points for 1 round) earlier on. Lee left it for the last round to use his Joker round and was storming home. However Joost picked Port to win and Lee had faith in the Pies. Joost also had a perfect round pi...ck for Round 18 to secure an extra point. Final results: Joost 112 (424) Lee 109 (620) Dean Walton 106 (419) - Best Margin Nate 106 (439) Ernie 106 (464) Pete 103 (447) Finn 103 (525) Sean 94 (463) Wazza 91 (479) Jacob 87 (463) Well done to Joost and Lee. Thanks to everyone who played.

18.01.2022 A few details for sign-on day at the Spartans! https://spartansjafc.com.au/

18.01.2022 U8.5 Blue match report: The boys rocked up to Coomera Magpies ready for a tough game. The Pressure was on!!! No Coach and knowing we were likely to be playing short. But a five O’clock start from Aiden and Jacob had them at the ground ready to go from the sunny coast this morning, and now fielding a full team. Nobody more excited than the stand-in coach. Flynn snagged the captain’s armband and we took the field with the tried and tested system already instilled in the boy...s. A strong first quarter led by the midfield of William, Cooper and Aiden, had the goals flowing early from Nate and Knox. Lachie and Jack came into the centre for the second term and did the job asked of them, and Tyler was getting on the end of another solid midfield display. All in all, it was a fantastic effort from all the boys. They did themselves and Mudgeeraba Spartans Proud. And made my stand in position as coach a very pleasing one. Well done lads. Stand-in Assistant coach to the coach. Ernie

18.01.2022 Under 10.5s match report: The lads brought some energy today against Pac Pines. Although the result against the best team in the competition was quickly established, in most instances the Spartans ensured there was a contest at each stoppage. Jerome soared in the ruck (and took an absolute specky!)and James asserted himself in the backline. Riley had his best game to date by focusing on the ball while being surrounded by some classy opponents. Niels was asked to tag one of th...e best young players in the league. This challenge took him to the ball and he did the team proud. Our mosquito fleet of Braiden, Jesse and Jett laid some tackles and launched kicks into attack. Sam's kick outs used the wind to good effect. Pac Pine's coach remarked that the Spartans had definitely improved since their previous encounter. So what else can we improve upon? The Spartans would benefit from more gamesmanship and understanding footy. We can do this by watching footy on TV. We can also be more accountable for our opponents in every zone. By recognising and understanding the intricacies of Aussie rules, our largely inexperienced footy lovers can make better decisions in attack and defence. Thanks to Jimmy (James's dad) for the excellent suggestion of recording positive acts from Spartans. We set a "first to ball" target of 10 x per qtr and hit it 3 out of 4 qtrs. It showed that improvement can be measured in different ways. For the rest of the season we'll work on rotating the boys on and off the ground more frequently, meaning that all the boys will get more game time and get to experience different positions and roles. A big happy father's day to all the Spartans dads and a heartfelt thanks for your input and enthusiasm. Keep it coming, we'll take all the input we can get. We will be looking for help with managing our rotations in the next few weeks as we have 17 players and only can have 12 on the field at any time. The AFL rules and our insurance regs stop us having more than that. However, next year in under 11.5s it's 16 a side so if we can keep our group together the boys will be playing a lot of footy next year. Under 11s play on a bigger field, no zones, it's going to be great fun. Finally, as always, it's about enjoyment, teamwork, learning and running around on a Sunday playing footy with your mates, which is something we're constantly grateful for. Don't forget team photos and sausage sizzle Thurs night so everyone needs to bring their playing kit and their team shirts. We'll train in team shirts and chuck on our game jumper for the pics. Thanks again to you all, you are highly appreciated and valued. - Coach Joost, Coach Wazza. See more

17.01.2022 Home game with our U9.5’s vs Southport Sharks today, another nail biter. Great game to watch, well done boys

16.01.2022 For the month of November Mudgeeraba Optical will be raising money for Movember - supporting men’s mental health and suicide prevention , prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

16.01.2022 Eleven familiar faces turned up to take on the Demons today and Chase from the u8.5s also donned on a Spartans Jersey. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Spartans TEAM that we were used to. Despite the grunt work from a few contributors like Jordy, Cameron and Jack, the Spartans seemed lack lustre and some came into the match under the weather. The Demons, on the other hand attacked the ball and used the ball more efficiently. They were also prepared to run. So where to from here? We can sulk. Or, we can regroup and work on improving our game by working as a team and getting to the ball first like the way Spartans play. I am very confident that I know what option the Spartans will choose. Special thanks to Chase who more than held his own playing up this morning.

11.01.2022 Spartans u8.5 blue v Pac Pines ----------------------------------------- Another dominating performance from the blue team today and a real hunger for the ball summed up this match. The way these boys trained this week,i knew today was going to be a strong performance. I love how these lads aint happy to play the same week after week but are trying to improve, which is why they have become such a dominating force in this age group.... Great games today from Nate,Aiden,Jack and Cooper and with the likes of William, todays captain Jacob, and Matthew getting possessions at will it made it a very quick running, skillfull and entertaining game. The continued improvement from Reef and Knox was again on show in another great display. Pac Pines coach was amazed at the talent in our side and their club president stopped me in the carpark after the match in awe of this super team. The many hours on the training track over the last 2 seasons has turned kids new to footy into highly skilled and talented footballers who represent the Spartans Football Club to a very high standard. I say it week after week but i am very proud to coach these lads. Coach Lee See more

07.01.2022 Spartans u8.5 blue v Ormeau ------------------------------------------------ Our amazing team was up against a very valent opposition who at times showed our boys that if they relaxed they were able to test us. Led today by captain Knox,we got off to a fast start scoring at ease with slick ball movement from the centre into the forwards. Our second quarter, with changed positions, didnt change much with the boys dominating around the ground. With the likes of William,Nate and th...e Meeson twins running havic, some of the passages of play were worthy of a much higher age group. After half time we seemed to take the foot off the gas and credit to Ormeau who scored more in this quarter than any team has in any full game this season. A bit of a rev up at 3 quarter time, the boys lifted again and scored many a goal to earn credit from the opposition coach in acknowledgement of the skill of our boys. Todays other stars were Matthew and Reef, who both played super. I know this team is busting for a highly competitive match and are finding it a little hard to concentrate as their skill level is so advanced but that is because of all the hard work put in on the training track. 04.01.2022 Under 9.5s award winners great job boys a great season from all 9.5s

02.01.2022 Blustery challenging conditions greeted the Spartans u9.5s at Labrador today. While some of the team were already on holidays (some walking along pristine sandy beaches, some touring the country with wife and kids- caravan in tow, others getting end-of-season tattoos), six committed clubmen from the u8.5s took their place in the team. A big thanks to Lachy, Tyler, Coops, Aiden8, Nate and Will. In a previous meeting, Labrador tested the Spartans and it was no different today. ...Cam was remarkable in the middle and grabbed the opportunity to play on. It was obvious that Will relished playing in the guts and throwing his weight (and talent) around. Max stressed the importance of playing in front with some deft handballs and kicks. Ayden9 and Cohen were great focal points up forward and more than ably supported by Nate. The umpire swallowed his whistle and let the boys play a style of game that rewarded players who were the hungriest for the ball. At times, the Spartans 'honeypotted' (new word) and all attacked the ball leaving an opponent free to get a unmarked possession. The instruction at the breaks was for the Spartans to be accountable. This said, the lads' tenacity for the ball was rarely in doubt. Scrambling defence was the order of the day in the windy conditions with positive contributions from each and ever Spartan. And so ends another successful season for the Spartans u9.5s. In the uncertain times with COVID, it has been great seeing the team play footy throughout the season with passion and ever-improving skill. Thanks players and support crew. Cheers Joost Stand-in Coach (rarely standing...more pacing). See more

01.01.2022 U8’s Blue Coaches Report What a great morning for football! Our 8’s Spartans Blue came out firing right from the first ball up, with clean ball movements through the middle and laser guided kicking from the forwards. As the boys changed zones they all kept up the pressure and went after the ball like it was their last lollipop. The entire team put in to practice what they’d learnt at training and it payed off big time. The Coomera Magpies were left wondering how they c...ould get to the ball. The Coomera coach made a comment to myself after the game that their improvement was amazing and that they’re a great team. Well done today boys, you should all be very proud of yourselves. You all showed the true Spartan’s spirit! One very proud Coach Aaron.
