25.01.2022 A simple demonstration of load effects on a trailer/caravan. Remember that Gross vehicle mass (GVM): Is the total weight of the tow vehicle the kerb weight plus payload including passengers, luggage and accessories. Tare weight: This is the weight of an empty vehicle with all of its fluids but with only 10 litres of fuel in the tank. Also, consider centre of gravity. Load too high and you increase the chance of a roll over. We've seen it happen before. It is a fallacy that ...a vehicles 3500KG TOW RATING (for example) is just the weight of the caravan. This weight includes the dog, fuel (Fitted a long range fuel tank?) passengers, baked beans (all your food), beer, fuel, blankets, camping chairs, water (140ltr = 140kg), grey water, crockery, electronics, books, awning, pots and pans, clothes, Esky, Ice, tools, portable BBQ, toys and sports items..........Well, you get the idea. Also, monitoring towball weight is vital. Too heavy and it lifts the towing vehicles front wheels suspension (impairing wheels road contact and steering especially in the wet) and too light, then the load is likely too far back in the trailer/caravan and control can be lost as per the video. #vrarescue See more

25.01.2022 And also consider if the trip is really necessary as COVID-19 isnt over yet. #vrarescue

25.01.2022 It can all happen in a split second. Young or old. Male or female. Experienced or novice. Youve not got a care in the world....Then BLAM!... Guess were saying concentrate, drive to conditions, dont take risks and NO Drink/Drug driving are ways to get everyone home. #vrarescue

24.01.2022 Non operational airbag, chocking and cribbing walk through. Got to say Mudgee squad has a good turnout of members. A squad is only as good as its regular, interested and willing members. #vrarescue

24.01.2022 Probably cant read the Guardian post but the gist is ALL over 12-year-old visitors to the Mudgee Hospital are required to WEAR A MASK. If you dont want to wear one (like Bunnings Karen) then that will be a problem for you. #vrarescue

23.01.2022 Some tips on caravan safety. Worth a look even if you are a seasoned caravaner. #vrarescue

22.01.2022 A member of the Mudgee Squad took some pictures of the Gulgong Chemists display in support of the Emergency Services. Mudgee and Gulgong Rescue Squad appreciate the support. https://www.facebook.com/GulgongDispensary/ #vrarescue

21.01.2022 Dads are sometimes the go-to parent. Happy Dads Day to all the Dads out there. #vrarescue

21.01.2022 ABSOLUTELY, NEVER GIVE UP! Hargraves. 10.40pm on 26 January, Mudgee Rescue Squad was activated to look for a gentleman (with some medical issues) who hadn't returned home after a walk he'd set out on about 4pm. The gentleman was missing for some 27 hours (2 nights and 1 hot day) in rugged farmland terrain (some 4000 acres), while VRA, SES, and Police conducted extensive land and air searches of the area.... We kept assuring the missing man's wife and son, never give up or start thinking the worse, and Bingo! the gentlemen presented himself to neighbours around 7am this morning! 28 January. It just goes to show that there will always be people (paid and volunteers) willing to put the time in to help anyone and everyone in need (even though we didn't actually find him ) And to family and friends, try not to lose hope before the big lady sings. Good news and many relieved people today. A special mention to Bathurst SES who traveled 2 hours there and 2 back to help in the search. Thanks. #vrarescue

20.01.2022 Never feel you cant tell a driver youre uncomfortable with their driving. Speeding, distracted, tailgating, not to conditions or impatient are all reasons to speak up. After all, its your safety too. #vrarescue

19.01.2022 Text from Fire and Rescue At approximately 1340hrs this afternoon, Pump 312, Rehab 312, Hazmat Tanker 387, the NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Police Force were responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a fuel tanker and a car at the intersection of Ulan Road and Bobadeen Road, north of Ulan. Much to the crews surprise, the four occupants of the car and the driver of the fuel tanker were completely unscathed. At least two hundred litres of diesel was spilt across approximately half a kilometre of the roadway, and with the assistance of Mid Western Regional Council, crews rendered the incident safe and reopened the roadway in both directions. Remember to stay safe on the roads, everybody! #vrarescue

18.01.2022 The Drip walking track. 53km North of Mudgee. Today, Mudge Rescue Squad, along with Gulgong and Rylstone/Kandos VRA, Police and NSW Ambulance, undertook a 850 metre + Stokes walk out of a patient who had a suspected broken foot after a fall. Those that a familiar with the track will know that it is a narrow, steep and twisty track that, at times, only allows single file access. It was hot, humid and heavy work but accomplished with style and team work from all involved. It is what we do. #vrarescue

18.01.2022 Yes, 40kph past any bus on your side of the road, with flashing lights. That includes 100kph speed limited roads such as the Ulan Rd, Castlereagh Hwy, Cope Rd, Henry Lawson Drive, Mudhut Creek Rd, Wolar Rd, Hill End Rd, Lue Rd, Queens Pinch Rd, Ridge Rd....Well, you get the idea. And it's worth remembering that the buses run well before and after School Zones operate but the 40kph is still enforceable. #vrarescue

18.01.2022 Well, this call to drive to conditions is one we advocate at any time you are on the roads. Wet, dry (dust on dirt roads), evening, early morning, traffic, School buses, School zones..........and the list goes on. #vrarescue

17.01.2022 All the best Mr Harris. Been a pleasure (if you can use that word) working with you over the years. Enjoy retirement and see you around taking it easy. #vrarescue

17.01.2022 In the blink of an eye. #vrarescue

16.01.2022 Thank you to those that made the ultimate sacrifice. You are all heroes. #vrarescue

16.01.2022 It takes a brave person to admit when you are wrong when making a mistake while driving. It happens. Own it. A simple wave or a visual apology goes a long way to making your day or their day. Learn from it and put the error in your driving experience memory bank. Simples. #vrarescue

16.01.2022 If you drive an electric car, there are new safety laws you need to know. #vrarescue

15.01.2022 Around 1:30pm today, Mudgee Ambulance, Police, Mudgee VRA and RFS, were called to a person trapped under farm equipment. After a short time the person was freed and taken to hospital by Toll helicopter. #vrarescue Photo credit to RFS

15.01.2022 Accident are very rare occurrences. In our experience there is usually an avoidable factor in the incident. It is in our hands in getting home or others getting home and avoiding the hassle of insurance, or worse, charges from the Police. Drive to conditions (raining, evening, low sun, traffic, pedestrians, schools, emergency services or any number of factors), drive rested, unaffected by drink or drugs and dont speed. #vrarescue

15.01.2022 Road closure. #vrarescue

15.01.2022 Caution if heading to Sydney/Blue mountains today. #vrarescue

13.01.2022 Great! 2020 just keeps on giving. Early snake season (Whispers* Actually, snakes are around all the time). Lift tin, wood or sheets towards you. Have a stretchy bandage handy. Leave them alone (eg try to kill or search for)... If bitten, bandage from bite site towards heart, stay calm and avoid moving (if possible) as lymph system is generally pumped by movement and call for help. You dont need snake ID for hospital. #vrarescue

11.01.2022 Just an update from the Drip walk out. Ludmila, the patient, had a letter published in the Mudgee Guardian (which is screenshot below) thanking those involved. It is always good to hear the end of the story (transport and recovery). Good to hear she is on the mend and appreciate the shout out to all those involved. #vrarescue

10.01.2022 Move over, give way, slow down and be vigilant. #vrarescue

10.01.2022 Double demerits start at midnight tonight and continue until 11:59pm, 3 January. Double Points and don't think it's just a 'revenue raiser' as all fines remain the same. It's not worth the hassle of getting caught doing the wrong thing (double points or not) so take it easy and get where you're going. Plan your trip, check the vehicle, drive to conditions and if drinking leave the car where it's parked. Remember, have a plan B. #vrarescue

10.01.2022 Just a few pics of what the squad has been up to in the last 3 training sessions. Trainees 2 nights gave us the opportunity to give intensive familiarisation on the Hydraulics and airbag lifting system. Followed by the other members joining in to study the Drive vehicles under operational conditions. COVID-19 protocols were adhered to in all training sessions (hand sanitiser, Social distancing where possible and no handshakes etc).

08.01.2022 Check your car. Its easy and could save your life or avoid serious injury. #vrarescue

08.01.2022 Yes, it is the vehicle that MUST giveway to pedestrians. But, please take care when using a crossing. Look at the vehicles approaching and register their speed and if they have seen you. Not trying to suggest it is the pedestrians responsibilty but better to get to the other side safely than not. Traffic is hard and pedestrians are not. #vrarescue

04.01.2022 Volvo Australia has issued an urgent recall of seven models, affecting just under 25,000 cars.
