25.01.2022 So many little moments of child led learning today. We started with some mark making with crayons and paper that was left out. The old computer was donated my Matt Mudlark! Master G thought it was a great prop to investigate and use for work. Outside the children were draw to the rubber egg collection that was put out and left to be found. Miss M decided throwing the eggs was the best use. Master G decided to collect and put the eggs back into their muffin tray holes. Th...is is the start of math concepts with portions and equally distributing a set amount. Master G found a magnifying glass and began looking around at things to see how it changed what he could see . Miss G was becoming very confident in her investigation of our environment and she is very engaged at trying to make connections with her peers. Mimicking play and following them around watching what they engage with. Miss M was getting herself into spaces that needed lots of concentration and control to navigate safely. Climbing onto and into different spaces using her gross motor control in conjunction with balance, core strength to succeed or her resilience and determination to try again! All 3 children decided to taste the flowers today. They all wanted to eat the purple ones. I showed them our herb garden but they preferred the flowers. I can see myself getting some nasturtiums to help with flower eating!!

25.01.2022 Tennille is an amazing FDC educator located in Fernvale, she is so fantastic at creating a loving and educational environment for her children in care! She is always willing to share advice when I ask and help with ideas. I really appreciate her friendship thank you Tennille for being so generous with your wealth of experience xo

24.01.2022 I have been quiet and not posting lately while learning our new normal at Mudlarks Family Day Care. We have enjoyed some quality outside play these last few weeks and creative play indoors. Today we started with bubbles outside to chase! It was a great way to stretch our legs and burn off excess energy. Next we are using our constructive skills to build with the Mobilo. This is Master Ss first time using these resources so it was interesting seeing him investigate how they work. Master S is also developing his enveloping schema lots lately as demonstrated/observable in his cubby house play. Master G loved the bubble machine and chasing the bubbles around trying to catch them!

23.01.2022 We have successfully grown 2 beautiful broccoli yay! I prefer to let the children be the harvesters with our produce but this huge storm looming has made me decide to harvest them today. Our vegetable patch is such a special part of our environment, fingers are crossed that it isnt damaged badly during the storm. Look after yourselves and I will see you Tomorrow xx

22.01.2022 We are going to miss these little people so much! Its been a pleasure to have them in our home at Mudlarks and we wish them all the best for the future as they have moved away to a new house. Thank you for being such amazing characters full of inquisitive mindsets xoxo

22.01.2022 Matilda is enjoying this creative activity

22.01.2022 We shared some new ideas today with a beautiful book my Mother and Aunty has written about the six Noongar seasons. We learnt some new words in Noongar and remembered some that we have spoken about before. Miss H loves trying new words and she remembered the Magpie being Koolbardi. Each season has a different colour and words written both in English and Noongar explaining the artwork depicted on each season’s page. ... Miss G found the Bear hunt book so we had a fun time reading and remembering the repeated words. Using hand actions we talked about going over, going under and going through something. The pink bear in our environment was used to encourage the younger children to participate in our shared book experience as we looked at the bear in the book and our bear.

22.01.2022 We were gifted this beautiful hand made monarch butterfly life cycle set this morning!!!!! the children excitedly embraced this chance to revisit the knowledge and shared their ideas about caterpillars and butterflies coming out of chrysalis.

21.01.2022 Strawberries are totally my favourite - S Sunshine is amazing for lifting our spirts and getting our happiness cups full. The children were loving the time in our front sensory garden so much that they wanted morning tea outside We looked at the size of some plants... why is this plant so so little JoJo? - S This lead into a discussion about things taking time to grow. We found the Apple tree has baby apples on it and learnt that we need to let them grow big before they are ready to eat. We felt the silky smooth leaves of some of the succulents. We smelt the lemon balm and made it into a fairy tickle wand. I also encouraged them to smell the fennel and I said it is the smell of aniseed or licorice. Our front garden is very uneven and requires a lot of concentration to walk over the uneven surfaces. This challenge is slowing the pace and making us aware of our bodies moving through the space. Lessons about body awareness that engage our vestibular system are essential in early childhood to create confidence and adaptability to changing environments and situations.

20.01.2022 With 3 little people in today and the youngest transitioning into their first full day I have been fostering and supporting new friendships and trusting relationships. Emotional development is so important in early childhood with children needing to feel safe and secure before they can become open to learning and engaging in other developing areas. connection and positive interactions respect of boundaries and limits that the children set meeting the physical needs o...f the children and awareness of their individual signals and communication clues. observation of childrens current interests and try to support, extend and document their achievements and progress See more

20.01.2022 Working on our memory, fine motor skills, resilience and communication

18.01.2022 Lionel the lion was a gorgeous new addition to our environment this week he was instantly noticed and both Miss M and Miss G were engaged in investigating this handsome addition. Our slater problem in our vegetable garden is slowing down and we have been gifted with our first sugar snap pea!! We have also managed to grow a few new pea seedlings and one was big enough to transfer into one of the main garden beds. Fingers crossed it lasts the night and has a chance to flourish! We harvested the few last bits of broccoli for our savoury mince lunch as we removed the spent plants. This makes room for some new seedlings and hopefully a new future harvest of yummy veggies.

16.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day Sending all our love out to all the Mothers, Bonus Mums, Grandmothers, Nanas, Foster Mums,Surrogate Mums, Fur Mums and want to be Mums. We love you and all that you do!!! Xoxo

15.01.2022 We LOVE music and dancing Miss H asked Can we dance to Barbie music JoJo? Yes we can! Can we get the dancing clothes? Yes we can! Its perfect when we can create joy and know we are building strong and confident little people in the process

13.01.2022 Self guided learning makes regular activities like toast making so much more fun! How old were you when you tried to make your favourite toast? Building and problem solving skill development was the choice the children decided to challenge themselves with today. Great work at sticking at a task to reach your own goals gold star for todays efforts

12.01.2022 Spontaneous child led engineering with bridge building with a follow up of challenges to negotiate the structure was a big part of our morning play. We were also so lucky today to have a beautiful visitor come to play and join in our morning activities . The children love it when they are heard by and engaged with people in our environment. We build trusting relationships and learn about reciprocal communication. Today I showed Miss H some pictures I found from when she first started at Mudlarks and we were enjoying the changes we have see Miss H come through marking off significant milestones!

12.01.2022 How can we help children love eating fresh vegetables? My trick has been the vegetable patch! Its like a treasure hunt to find something to munch on we learn to be patient and then get the excitement of finding out that we can now eat something we planted and helped grow! eating healthy and enjoyable vegetable Broccoli nurturing our environment with our garden continued lifecycles of plants we grow from seedlings and seeds.

12.01.2022 Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream. Pouring with rain and the childrens voices loud and happy in their play. We are extending on our boat interest from Tuesday with our love of song and group experiences. All ages coming together freely and enjoying their imaginative role play. Each child had time to themselves in the boat that was spontaneous as they saw an opening and the other children seemed to respect that it was a solo moment without anyone saying anything.

12.01.2022 Muddy fun today for our little Mudlarks family. We mixed or clay powder with a bit of water then got our hands (and faces!) coated in the rich and sticky sensory experience. This activity uses childrens natural curiosity to explore science, math and develop their motor control as they tip, stir, investigate and interact with the resources.

11.01.2022 With our current interests in bodies and drawing we took a turn to decorate ourselves a little person. This activity was approached in each childs unique way. Some preferred a small amount of colour, (Miss M) some preferred a limited colour palette choosing one main colour for their person (master S) some wanted to eat and throw the crayons (miss G) and some took a lot of time to colour in the details like a orange mouth while saying mouth here! Its important that children can explore their own ideas in art as it gives them autonomy and a sense of being in the moment to create with freedom. We created a different piece of art with the addition of tape when Master G was concerned that his persons limbs where detached while he was colouring and exploring.

11.01.2022 Sunshine music, dance and dirt makes for the most perfect day hanging out with all the the awesome little humans and kitty cats too!!

09.01.2022 Sensory play added to the childrens ongoing interest in water play and garden exploration. Freshly picked, sage, thyme, lemon thyme, lemon balm, basil and mint! Master G and Miss M both love water and they also love helping themselves to our vegetable garden. This activity had them using their noses and mouth to connect with the herbs and work out if they liked them. The tap stand is a new resource added last Friday and the children are learning to pump one water tap and ho...w to activate the catch on the other. Master G was also experimenting with a different cause and effect as he posted his ruler (spatula) into the plastic reels centre hole. He worked out how to pull the spatula out of the bottom hole and then had to figure out how to put the 2 pieces back together again. With a little support he was able to fix the detached pieces using the plug the hole reasoning

09.01.2022 Playing with light, colour and shapes. Letters are shapes that we recognise as having a certain meaning. Today we introduced some capital block letter play. The notion that a name has certain shapes is a very strange and new concept for young children. When we play with these sorts of resources the letters stop being new and alien. This means the children absorb understanding with freedom and no rules about how to interact with these shapes. With multiple ages in care each ch...ild chooses how they respond and a lot of mimicry was observed as they see each others responses and ideas. Miss H is getting so good at recognition of H and says its her name. She has taken ownership of that letter! Master G was interested in owning a letter so we showed him G and let him know that his name starts with this letter. The younger 2 children are more into touch and sensory activities and the new posting box for posting the letters and shapes into was their focus. See more

08.01.2022 We love finding garden treasure!!! Vegetable gardens are the best with learning life cycles and getting a yummy reward for your efforts!!!

07.01.2022 It’s beautiful to see the friendships and peer relationships growth throughout the year!

06.01.2022 Today we extended our interest in light it has been a frequent interest of master Gs to borrow Matts torch off the pantry shelf and investigate how it works and what ways the light can be bounced off things. From chasing the circle beam to lighting up dark cardboard boxes We have some new projector torches to play with now and some of the ideas that came out was about size of the projection and the way movement can make it a bigger picture or smaller. We even saw the picture become stretched over an edge!! The new magnetic see through shapes paired fabulously with these investigations as they can change lighting colours and also create interesting shapes when projected onto the wall with the overhead projector. We saw houses and then they became rockets

05.01.2022 Just for a bit of a giggle and personal experience this is my own youngest daughter 6years ago at 2.5years old. She was re locking the pantry door knowing that it had a lock to keep her out and stop her from climbing the shelves! She has thrived and is a healthy 8yr old now. Some days we win at parenting some days we take photos in hopes to look back at the hardest days with love in our hearts I hope this made you all smile Jo

05.01.2022 Awwww Im feeling the Easter love thank you Miss M and L for your lovely gifts!!! So thoughtful xoxo

05.01.2022 Have to love when a yummy lunch ends up in your program because of the fine motor skill development it gives your littlest baby

04.01.2022 We have looked at lots of things today, the fire station build was one that I had programmed. I believe that children are capable self directed learners so I am happy to see they have developed lots of interest in the big green torch and the different kinds of light it gives. Miss H and Master G found the torch in the pantry and asked to play with it today. They used it to go on a treasure hunt and found the basket of potato head body parts in the library area and t...his led to the creation of a character with a great personality! Next they set up a stage and asked for me to play Christmas music and put the torch shining onto the wall as their spot light . Master G kept saying Christmas with a huge smile as he recognised jingle bells and needed to share his knowledge with us. Spontaneous and child led learning is priceless! Its giving children a life long love of learning that will help them in their future lives!! Fantastic imagination and friendship was demonstrated in these activities. After all the dancing and shows Master G was tired so he laid down and Miss H tucked him in with a blanket she found. This shows empathy and the ability to think about how we can support our friends needs. Miss M is wanting to look at everything others are doing and was interested in seeing me cook lunch. I supported her need for closeness and interest in my cooking. Miss G is becoming so comfortable in our environment now and is showing us how clever she is taking a few steps here and there. We all love watching when she stands up on her own and see her smiling at her own success!

03.01.2022 Mud pie masterpieces!!! Flowers for the win with the mud kitchen play today. Everyone had turns to add pieces to their sand creations and it was so beautiful seeing the support and enjoyment in this shared experience

03.01.2022 Sensory play mixed with role play when the children learnt about our growing herbs They loved potion making and knowing that we had chosen edible leaves made it more fun for everyone to get involved. can I taste this one JoJo? Miss H its mint!!! Miss L remarks after a taste spicy is for adults Miss H... Miss M liked stirring the potions too with the big wooden spoon. Its ok if she spills it, we can make more says her sibling Miss L

03.01.2022 The journey of the fire station We were so excited to have some new resources added into our day! The children picked the first box to open and it was a building activity for the rest of our day. Each child had a turn at using the screwdriver and help assemble our new fire station. This is a fabulous extension on the internet that Master G showed last week with the toy tools . I observed some fantastic fine motor skill in action and loads of focused coordination as they had to get the tip of the screwdriver into the cross shape on the top of the Phillips head screw, then work out how to turn the screwdriver in the right direction . We had to problem solve and turn take as well as celebrate our achievements and those of our peers as everyone succeeded in their part of the build. Great work team .

03.01.2022 Hi everyone I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for being patient with me while I recovered from a nasty cold/sinus infection. Im feeling much better now with Princess and Redge keeping me company while Im catching up on some documentation. Im looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for fun and play. JoJo

03.01.2022 Today we revisited the monarch butterfly lifecycle because of a beautiful hand made gift! Thank you Megan for adding a super surprise to our day!!! I love hearing master G and S say Chrysalis This activity of putting the caterpillar into and out of the different stage bags was fantastic for strengthening fine motor skills and helping memory recall using language to share excitement and ideas. Master G used his ruler (spatula) as his caterpillar and wrapped the bags around the stick. This was a very clever solution to the problem of having only one caterpillar and wanting to play.

02.01.2022 For all my FDC industry mates..... this is for you, this is for us! Together we stand, together we will get through this!

02.01.2022 Learning to use our bodies to move confidently though challenging terrain and trusting our ability to assess risks in the moment. We practiced lots of moving today with our normal focus on building trusting relationships with our peers and engaging in turn taking in group activities.

01.01.2022 Freedom to play outside in the fresh air. We are looking for our new focus! What will it be? We certainly enjoyed our garden and the treasure it brings, both the harvest and the care that we give our garden brings the children joy Keys and locks are still a great interest! Water play investigations are always a winner. A renewed interest in the human body with Miss H and her Mum taking about what a skeleton is and what our lungs do was added to our day when they arrived sharing their car chat. Fabulous learning
