24.01.2022 When the big girl is home everyone gets involved in elaborate role play games. Today we had houses set up and here they all are at school with their teacher. Today’s lesson- alphabet and writing.

23.01.2022 Earth arts at our local community gardens playgroup. The children adore this outing and look forward to going every single week. The children have access to lots of natural materials for creating and playing. Here one of my two year olds is making use of the clay paints. The clay paints are available most visits and always come in a variety of natural colours ranging from white to black with oranges and browns in between. Bob who facilitates the playgroup collects the clay hi...mself from differ areas of Brisbane and the children add small amounts of water as they paint on the art board and often on themselves just like Bob shows them. Bob likes to inform them it is natures natural sunscreen to protect from the sun. The children adore Bob as much as the playgroup himself, he is a wealth of knowledge and is never too busy to engage with the children and share his ideas and earth arts explorations! #mudpiesanddragonfliesfdc #familydaycare #fdc #childcare #camphill #rainbowbridgefamilydaycare #bigheartedcare #steiner #reggio #natureplay #eartharts #playislearning See more

23.01.2022 Play is the highest form of learning and the children here play hard everyday. True child-led learning is more than just having fun, child-led learning leads to great educational and developmental outcomes. This is because children are more likely to engage with learning when it stems from their own ideas, imagination and natural curiosity. This is especially important for the under five year age groups. The programme I deliver for the children at Mudpies and Dragonflies Family Day Care is derived from the interest of the children while also including invitations to explore new ideas and resources to spark new interests and ways of thinking. #mudpiesanddragonfliesfdc #familydaycare #fdc #childcare #camphill #rainbowbridgefamilydaycare #bigheartedcare #steiner #reggio #playislearning #natureplay

22.01.2022 Dragonfly General Store is open for business!

22.01.2022 I currently have a rare full time, or several part time, placements available here at Mudpies and Dragonflies Family Day Care. Located in Camp Hill, I offer a home away from home for the children and families in my care. I have over 14 years experience and am inspired by Steiner and Reggio approaches to child care and education. If you’re looking for an alternative to a large centre-based environment with an emphasis on connection for your 18 month - 4 year old child, then ...please message or call me for further information. Amber.

21.01.2022 Our children need us to help mange their big emotions, this is known as co-regulation. Instead of consequences for very young children we can try to help them regulate their emotions by sharing and modelling our own.

19.01.2022 What a spectacular autumn morning to get out into the garden and go on a butterfly searching expedition! We found so many butterflies of varying colours and sizes, and even one dragonfly that had all the children captivated. The butterflies danced too quickly through the garden to capture on camera but the children were quick to call out and point to their friends as they found them! Learning Outcome 2.4.6 Children explore relationships with other living and non-living things and observe, notice and respond to change. Learning Outcome 3.1.5 Children increasingly co-operate and work collaboratively with others.

15.01.2022 Come and visit our all natural day spa. Today we have an offering of mud masks and flower water that is heavenly on the hands.

15.01.2022 Mulberries straight from the trees. My children are so lucky to attend a school with such a strong emphasis on sustainability and nature. They have an amazing orchard that includes three mulberry trees on the property less than 9km from the CBD. As a result our Family Day Care friends also get to enjoy the benefits, afternoon tea doesn’t come any fresher than this. #mudpiesanddragonfliesfdc #familydaycare #brisbane #camphill #childcare #luckychildren #lovemyjob #natureplay #littlegardeners

10.01.2022 Some great information on the progression of writing. We have paper and pencils available all day to encourage pre-writing skills such as pencil grip and fine motor movement to support the natural development of children learning to write.

08.01.2022 Let nature be your teacher. William Wordsworth. Living up to our name today, we are making mud pies in the garden! Sensory and messy play at its best. The children are having a blast playing and making memories here today. Mud play can be too messy for some yet is magical for children. Who would have thought two simple ingredients, water and dirt, is enough to keep them entertained all afternoon. The benefits of mud play extend far beyond simply ‘fun’ too!... According to science mud play has lots of scientific benefits, these include: * Mud makes you happy - no seriously, it’s all about friendly soil bacteria and serotonin production! * Mud increases brain activity - use of the senses stimulates the brain. * Mud increases physical activity - incidental movement from play develops physical literacy. * Mud reduces your susceptibility to depression - there’s that link between friendly bacteria and serotonin again! * Mud reduces allergies and asthma symptoms - increasing evidence suggests that our society’s are ‘too clean’ in modern times. * Mud play builds creativity - unstructured outdoor play with the ultimate open-ended resource allow children’s imagination and creative spirits to run free. * Mud play can reduce childhood anxiety and stress - their is scientific evidence linking the effects of restorative outdoor play with anxiety and stress in children. * Mud play creates childhood memories - positive childhood experiences are made through joyful hands-on fun. * Mud play builds a connection with nature - mud play allows children to connect with nature with multiple senses, truly engaging them with nature. #mudpiesanddragonfliesfdc #fdc #familydaycare #brisbanedaycare #camphillchildcare #natureplay #sensoryplay #mudplay #backyardfun #springdays #children

07.01.2022 Mudpies and Dragonflies are collecting bottle caps for this fantastic cause. Please feel free to help us grow the collection. Simply save, wash and bring your bottle tops in and I will put a box on the sign in desk to pop them into. Once we have a full box we will deliver them ready for use! Infographic with the bottle tops that can be used in the comments! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0VcknTjJg

07.01.2022 This year is flying by, we have been so busy here at Mudpies & Dragonflies that I haven’t been checking in. A few key highlights this year: We introduced a new puppy into our home and day care family. Winnie is a female Brittany who loves the children and is very calm with them through the day but can be a little excitable when the parents are arriving to drop-off and collect. I am sure this will be easier to manage as she gets older but for now when she is too excitable s...he gets out outside to run off some energy. We celebrated Mother’s Day with ‘Mum’s night off bags.’ The children helped make roasted pumpkin and garlic soup along with baking seedy spelt loaves of bread to take home for a family meal. We held our Autumn Kite Festival where we celebrated kites and all things Autumn. Alongside our celebration days we have embraced learning as we have played, discovered, experienced, created, danced and sang through the last few months!

04.01.2022 Beautiful words for our children to hear

02.01.2022 Play dates and garden play, our favourite way to spend Spring mornings. Today we helped dye this blanket using spray bottles. We can’t wait to see the result!

02.01.2022 Small treasures

01.01.2022 The rest of our invites have been finished all ready to go home! I think the children have done an amazing job! I hope our little tribe is all able to join us for our Spring Festival in the gardens soon
