10.01.2022 So it will be an interesting week...! Some of you may find your workplace disrupted or even closed if someone there is already sick. The best thing you can do is to be prepared here’s a few things I recommend: 1. Look after yourself. Chances are most of us will get this. So you have time to prepare your body for the attack. Get more sleep ... Eat good healthy food, especially fruit and veges Exercise- aim for 30 minutes of exercise that gets your heart pumping Do some mindfulness practices (download the Smiling Mind App it’s free) 2. Stock up on food essentials and any medicine you normally take. Enough for two weeks. 3. If you get sick the first signs are a high temperature and sore throat. Panadol will help with the fever and gargling salt water will help your throat. The main way it gets into the lungs is from infected snot dripping down your throat into your lungs. A antihistamine like Claratyne or cold and flu tablets like Codral should limit the running nose problem. If it gets in your lungs and you’re asthmatic be sure to have a good supply of Ventolin. 4. Check on your friends and family especially your elders. If you can keep them isolated they have a better chance of not getting sick. Go and do the shopping and stuff for them, but remember you may have the virus and have no symptoms so maintain a 1.5m distance and no touching each other. 5. Financial- there may be disruption to your work. You may be asked to take leave. There is support from the government for casual workers through Centrelink (they have waived the waiting period) Be careful with your money. Now is not the time for big purchases of non essentials. If you can’t make a repayment you owe, contact the relevant bank or agency and let them know. You aren’t alone and most places will renegotiate your payment terms as long as you advise them. We will all get through this. Be kind, be vigilant and be prepared. Scott
