20.01.2022 This Antimicrobial Awareness Week we are joining with health organisations around the world to promote the appropriate and safe use of antibiotics. Antimicrobials are very precious and we are raising awareness of the problem of antibiotic resistance. Everybody can be part of the solution - whenever antimicrobials must be used, they must be used with care. The future of antimicrobials depends on all of us!... Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria stop an antibiotic from working effectively without effective antibiotics some procedures may not be possible and some infections could be impossible to treat. Learn more about the importance of keeping antibiotics effective at www.safetyandquality.gov.au/aaw and www.nps.org.au/consumers/antibiotics-explained #mulgraveprivate #peoplefirstpeoplealways #antimicrobialawarenessweek

13.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day, when we traditionally observe a minute’s silence at 11am if our work allows. We do this in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. We remember particularly the nurses, doctors, orderlies, allied and mental health professionals who have served our country, including many among the more than 100,000 Australian service personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."

11.01.2022 Heart week 2021 Please meet Dr Peter Giles a recent patient at Mulgrave Private hospital and a local General Practitioner. Peter has now had 5 coronary procedures performed at our hospital and while he was an inpatient for his recent bypass surgery he kindly told us why he chooses our hospital and our services. I come here because of the specialists that I refer to. I have worked with my cardiologist A/Prof Dennis Wong for such a long time; with many many of my ...patients. He is absolutely fantastic. I came in on Tuesday for an angiogram and then had coronary bypass surgery on Friday. I was heading to the Kimberley’s for a holiday so thankfully the team here found the block or it could have been disastrous! I feel good today I’m out of ICU now, but when you’ve got 10 wires coming out of your body and all of them being monitored it’s where you have to be. I’d like to say to my colleagues; be aware of all the services and all the specialties that are available here at Mulgrave Private Hospital because you may well be surprised. Peter’s wife also shared This place is absolutely fantastic, so much of the latest and best equipment you probably couldn’t go anywhere better. And the staff are just so impressive. Being a nurse myself I can see how good they are and I can walk out every day and know Peter is being looked after perfectly. That’s something that has really stood out to me. Please join us in thanking Peter and wishing him a speedy recovery and return to looking after you; our community. Don’t forget to see Peter or your local GP for a heart health check. 02.01.2022 Heart week 2021 Reducing x-ray exposure to cardiology patients Here at Mulgrave Private Hospital we provide our patients with the latest evidence based medicine and cutting edge technologies. Pictured here (pre Covid) is Dr Matthew Swale, one of our cardiologists who is performing an electrophysiological procedure in our cardiac catheterisation lab to treat arrhythmia - a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. Matt is passionate about utilising techniques an...d technologies that create faster procedures, more effective procedures and safer procedures. None of us should be caught up on the way we’ve always done things, because the way we’ve always done things is good up to . One of the great joys and challenges of being a procedural Electrophysiologist is working out how you can get better at what you do. And really that’s what medicine is all about. Matt Swale Matt is the first Australian Electrophysiologist to utilise new technology and evolve the technique used to treat arrhythmia in order to reduce x-ray utilisation and radiation exposure to patients and staff. Radiation exposure is particularly important when it comes to younger patients, those that are either pregnant or breastfeeding, but in general, reducing radiation for all patients where feasible is a positive step. This technique expands our ability to provide accurate diagnostic and ablation procedures to our patients without the use of radiation. There is no safer way to manage radiation than to not use it. Matt Swale Mulgrave Private Hospital is thrilled to be able to provide our patients this latest technology.
