25.01.2022 Safety Risk. We were walking this morning and noticed about 10 meters from where council shored up the road last year the water has undercut the bank leaving a cave(?) about a meter in and 250 mm high. Please see pictures attached. Address and picture deleted for privacy reasons We are very concerned that a dog or even a child could get in there and as it is very close to the road there could be a tragedy. With the COVID restrictions being lifted this weekend for Moreton I...sland it will get busy here. Please share this to or people or groups who might be over this weekend. Also if this cave collapses as it is close to the road it could cause an accident.

23.01.2022 Stunning double rainbow this morning.g

23.01.2022 Kooringal western shore this morning. Let's keep it naturally beautiful for our kids.

21.01.2022 Some more photos of the erosion. Most of these photos are from in front of 61 and 63 Kooringal esplanade. Google map link is below The reason for focusing on this area is because this is where the erosion is most dramatic. We need to get council onboard to get an Erosion Management Plan for Kooringal happening but to do that we need your support. See https://www.kooringalcoastcare.org.au/ for more infomation. The first photo is from today. More sand is being lost daily on ...the big tides. That vertical bank behind just falls in when the tide hits it. The next photo is from about 10 years ago. You can see the dead tree was thriving and all the soil bank around it. We have lost meters and meters of sand here. You can see sand lost underneath the roots to the left in the third photo. https://www.google.com//data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x6b93d0c2

18.01.2022 Great to see the Amity Trader barge running to Kooringal again and doing the right thing environmentally as they unload building materials at Reeders Point this morning.

17.01.2022 Thank you to all those who have signed out the petition to get an erosion management plan happening for Kooringal. For those who haven't signed please click this link and sign online. It would be great if you share and can ask friends or anyone else who cares for our environment to sign. This is about more than beaches, it also affects the habitat behind the beach. https://www.change.org/KooringalErosionManagementPlan

17.01.2022 From the Coolum Coast Care website a document discussing beach erosion. Whyisnt there one for Kooringal. This was done years ago. A bit heavy going, but it's important to think about the "land buffers" to storm events discussed. If you look along the beachfront you will see Kooringal's "buffers" are fast disappearing. This is not just for ocean beaches. Think of what a 40 or 50 knot storm event from the west could do to our shoreline and further in. Please sign the petition and pass it on. http://coolumcoastcare.org.au//Coastal-management-coastal-

14.01.2022 Rain starting to clear over here.

14.01.2022 Thank you all for your interest and support in Kooringal Coast Care. Sorry for the long post but this group is gathering momentum and we wanted to get some more information out. We are working on the structure on the group as we try to get input and participation from the community. Initially, this group is primarily driven by the erosion which is happening all along the Kooringal foreshore but especially in front of "Toms Hole" where we are losing sand, soil and trees etc... daily.(well more at night time at the moment on the higher tides, especially when there is a westerly) If you look at our initial objectives on the website they are not just about erosion but right now there needs to be a focus on highlighting the importance of this issue to our community and other stakeholders such as council and state and working to prevent erosion events such as those shown in the videos below and implementing a strategy to slow, stop the sand loss or even get back our beaches. There is a web site www.kooringalcoastcare.org.au with lots more information and for those who haven't seen here are a couple of videos of the damage to our environment which happens when no one is around. This happened on the 24th April 2020 https://youtu.be/GcQItntiUWg https://youtu.be/Yk3NsrJiEwM See more

13.01.2022 Tranquility at Moreton Island

11.01.2022 Ok, found this little fella next to the water whilst walking on the beach. What is it?

10.01.2022 Now an old bottle dump is being exposed just down from the reborn tom's hole. A child has cut herself on the glass when playing thrre. When you walk on the sand in this area you can hear the glass crunching.

10.01.2022 While doing her usual early morning beach walk, Joanne came across an eagle with a fishing hook in its claw. It kept trying to take off but the line attached to the hook was caught up with weed and was too heavy. She called for help but we were too far away so she removed the hook with no help. Interestingly the bird just let her work on the hook. Good ending with the bird flying away immediately.

09.01.2022 Sky painting over Kooringal.

07.01.2022 A Dept of Fisheries officer has informed me that he has taken action against the 28 meter 110-ton capacity barge "Amity trader" for damaging shore plants when l...anding within Kooringal township. Where this barge landed is in a gazetted erosion-prone area and a mangrove habitat zone and not the normal Reeders Point landing area. The officer said, "its a problem, if the barge cames in at high tide it damages the shoreline plants and if it comes in at lower tides it damages the seabed". These trees and grasses are vital to keep the sand together and provide a buffer zone to slow erosion. If you haven't already I would ask that you share and sign our petition https://www.change.org/KooringalErosionManagementPlan to have something done about the erosion on Kooringal's western shoreline. Photo shows what is now left of the cotton tree and grass and the video is the barge right into the trees(higher branches are pushed back 2 meters) in April 2020..https://youtu.be/2beqoqZkezg See more

07.01.2022 We are trying to get an Erosion Management Plan happening at Kooringal so it would be great if you can sign our petition and share this post on facebook to raise the profile of this issue with the Government and other authorities. There are programs and funding out there just for this planning. Please click the link below to go to the petition. https://www.change.org/KooringalErosionManagementPlan

06.01.2022 Pelicans soaring and gliding in the wind.

06.01.2022 Hard to imagine but that stump in the picture used to have soil around it the same height of the bank behind. We have lost approx 750mm(3 ft) here in height and now the soil bank just washes away on the big tides. To lose 3/4 meter of height how long would have the grassy bank extended? 5 or more meters? This is next to Tom's hole.

04.01.2022 Young sharks off Reeders Point in the shallows

04.01.2022 Good to see the Curlews appreciating the revegation area. Plants starting to take off here with a bit of watering.

03.01.2022 BCC has a "have your say" page re the Coastal Hazards Adaptation Strategy(CHAS) program and there is a bit of info about the program. This is a federal program and there state govt funding for councils to investigate areas. You can place markers with info on a map where there is erosion. I noticeed Bulwer is on there but not Kooringal. I have put a couple in but It might be good if some of you could put in others. Closes on the 28th of September. https://www.brisbane.q...ld.gov.au//coastal-hazards-adaptatio Maybe through this program we can get an Erosion Management Plan happening and start doing something about the erosion.

03.01.2022 Beautiful swamp turtle out for a stroll but a little shy.
