25.01.2022 MISSING: This is my mums therapy cat Kimba. Mum was recently at the Woolgoolga ARRAWARRA rest stop (I hope this describes it good enough Im not familiar with t...he area) and Kimba slipped out of her collar and ran off. Mum is hysterical and has been looking for her since midnight. She is a white/grey rag doll, slightly elderly and has bright blue eyes. PLEASE keep an eye out. She should come to you if you say Kimba or puss puss or will come to the sound of fork hitting a tin.

24.01.2022 Woolgoolga is proudly flying the Aboriginal flag In celebration of Naidoc week which starts today NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Obser...vance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The NAIDOC 2020 theme - Always Was, Always Will Be. - recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations.

22.01.2022 As a former surf lifesaver I constantly find myself when I'm at a beach automatically in patrol mode, and I'm always troubled seeing the amount of swimmers that... enter the surf straight into a rip zone. This includes, and most worrying of all children. I know a lot of people are kind of aware of what to do if caught in a rip, but it has been brought to my attention recently that a lot of people aren't aware of what a rip actually looks like or where the safest place to swim at the beach is if there is no flagged area. One person will drown every two to three days this summer... 90% of those fatalities will be rip-related. Here are a few things that will help you and your kids stay safe this summer. I have also put together a few images that show what to look for. 1. The easiest thing to remember is that often the safest/calmest most enticing looking area along a beach is usually a rip. A rip is usually the area devoid of wave activity and appears darker and deceptively calmer. It can sometimes appear milky or turbulent, but it is always pretty much void of wave activity. All that water coming in via waves has to go back out somehow, this is what a rip is. (see pics). 2. Always take 5-10 mins when you get to the beach to observe surf conditions and identify where these areas are. 3. If you are caught in a rip, DO NOT PANIC. Go into floating mode and raise one arm as a distress signal when possible. See which direction the rip is taking you, is it straight out or at an angle? once you have determined this, and if you have the energy, swim to the right or left of the direction of flow, never against. Some rips can move at 3 times the speed of an olympic swimmer, you won't win! If you cannot swim out to either side of the rip, just go with it. Most rips won't take you out very far, and will usually spit you out not long after they take you, so keep calm and save your energy for the swim back to shore. 4. If you have kids, show them these pictures, educate them and make them aware. You can't always be watching them, and it is only a matter of a few metres each way of the point of entry to the water that could mean them being safe, or instantly caught in a rip. Obviously the safest place to swim is always between the flags on a patrolled beach, but this isn't always practical given the immensity of our coast line and number of beautiful beaches. Of course there are many other factors that can come into play when it comes to beach safety, but rips are the No.1 killer. They are not hard to identify, and 10 mins observation before entering the surf is much easier than body retrieval. *The darker/calmer areas in the pics are rips. The one with purple dye shows rip movement. Kenny Jewell - Official

21.01.2022 On Wednesday, November 11, five students from Mullaway Primary School participated in the semi-finals for the Game Changer Challenge against ten other North Coa...st schools. The day was jam-packed with design thinking activities in which the students worked together to find a solution 'using technology to bring the community together'. The culmination of the day was a live 'product pitch' session to a panel of judges. Congratulations to the students involved for their collaboration and creativity on the day. The students all thoroughly enjoyed the event. Thank you to Mr Grant, our Game Changer Challenge and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) coordinator. See more

11.01.2022 Recently there have been renewed community concerns regarding the decommissioned crossing at the corner of Arrawarra Road and Mullaway Drive. The intersection i...s located within the 40km zone and is a major crossing point for students walking or riding to school from Mullaway and Arrawarra. Initially the local councils response was to recommission the crossing, and; for the school to be responsible for placing flags from 8:00am to 9:30am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm each school day. This response was not viable for a number of reasons: 1. 8:00am and 4:00pm sit outside of the official school opening times and therefore it can not be part of any duty schedule. 2. 9:30am and 2:30pm sit within our teaching times, which is the core business of schools. It is illegal to leave the flags up between 9:30am and 2:30pm. 3. The crossing is located 350 metres from the school office and does not border the school grounds. This leads to potential work, health and safety issues as well as legal liability. The safety of our students is a priority and an obvious solution is to install a permanent crossing and extend the flashing lights along Mullaway Drive to include the 40km zone along Arrawarra Road. According to the local council, this intersection does not meet the criteria for such infrastructure to be installed. The school is currently liaising with the Department of Educations Road Safety Education Officer and the local council to find a viable and safe solution. Although it is yet to be confirmed, the council is supportive to the idea of installing an island refuge, which would improve upon the current situation. If parents would like to be involved in this issue, the most productive forum for influencing the outcome is via our next P&C meeting, which can provide a united voice to represent our school community. Our P&C next meets in the school library on Wednesday, August 12th at 5:00pm. In the meantime, it is important to remember that the safety of our students is a community responsibility, and; parents can play a vital role by modelling and discussing the following safety points: For those who walk to school... Plan and practice your trip to school. Talk with your children about being alert in the road environment. Remind your child to STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! THINK! every time they cross the road and keep checking until safely across. Talk to them about why they should stop, look, listen, think before crossing a driveway, road or carpark. For those who ride to school... At intersections, riders must dismount and wheel the bicycle across the road as a pedestrian, following the stop, look, listen, think procedure. Your child must wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter or skateboard when commuting to and from school For those who drive to school... Slow down to 40km/h in the school zone and stay aware of children crossing. Park safely and legally, even if it means walking further to the school gate. Parking signs are planned with childrens safety in mind. Model safe and considerate behaviour for your child they will learn from you. STOP! one step back from the kerb LOOK! continuously both ways LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic THINK! whether it is safe to cross and keep checking until safely across

06.01.2022 BIG news folks!!!! It’s official! Australian Bega is buying these brands in a half-a-billion dollar deal from Japanese owned Lion Dairy and Drinks Last year t...hese brands were sold to Chinese Mengniu Dairy. The sale was approved AND recommended by Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board. In the final moments, Treasurer Frydenberg halted the sale citing a conflict with national interest. Chinese Mengniu Dairy’s biggest shareholder is ..the Chinese Communist Party So it was a fair call! Did you know, this sale includes Australia’s ONLY national cold chain distribution network Yep, until now this supply chain has been owned by an overseas company. Don’t think that’s a big deal?? $70 MILLION of Australian dairy is spoiled every year due to problems (e.g. delays, mismanagement) along our cold chain distribution network. Australia’s dairy industry has been gutted over the years and dairy farmers have taken a beating. A number of parliamentary committees looked into the Australian dairy industry over many years and guess what happened with all those reports. A whole lot of nothing! So farmer representative groups have been calling for a Royal Commission into the Dairy industry to resolve these issues once and for allBring it on! BUT in the meantime, having our biggest dairy companies return to Australian ownership and management should (hopefully) only strengthen their position!! EDIT: Completion of the Acquisition is anticipated to occur at the end of January 2021 #maketheswap #maketheswapaustralia #australianmade #madeinaustralia Bega Cheese Dairy Farmers Daily Juice Yoplait Australia Big M Pura Classic
