01.01.2022 "WINTER LAWN CARE TIPS MOWING IT RIGHT! In normal conditions the proper height of your grass should be no lower than 5cms and no higher then 9cms although this does not apply during winter as the growth slows down. ... The cutting of grass will need to be decreased during this time but DO NOT leave your grass too tall at the start of winter, tall grasses will create a warm and ideal house for field mice and other pests. Have your lawn mowed professionally especially as winter approaches. FERTILISING PROPERLY This one is so important, during the winter months soil may be the only thing the grass can count on. When other sources such as wind, moisture and temperature is not suitable for the grass it’s essential that the lawn still has its nutrient-rich reliable soil to keep it healthy. After summer time the nutrients from the soil are used due to the fast growth of grasses hence fertilising before winter is very necessary. The fertiliser will remain in the soil and feed the grass roots during the cold season. PROPER WATERING SCHEDULE In Winter, grasses will not need as much water compared to other seasons, the colder weather can cause the water to not evaporate properly, the water left on the lawn could damage its health and lead to pests or fungus problems. It’s much better to cut back beforehand and avoid drowning the grass while the weather is cold. KEEP YOUR LAWN FREE OF WEED During winter the grass growth will slow down but not the WEEDS! the weeds grow well in winter especially if the health of your grass has decreased, it creates a good condition for weeds to take over the place. Remove weeds as soon as possible! LET IT REST Protect your lawn now before the coldest months arrive by avoiding any impact on its surface such as furniture, toys and heavy items. This will prevent dead spots and keep your lawn looking beautiful during the colder months. Also using a think layer of mulch is a simple way to protect your lawn.
