23.01.2022 Mulloon Creek Natural Farms - 'Duralla' Six leaky weirs have now been installed along a two kilometre stretch of Mulloon Creek at the 'Duralla' property of Mulloon Creek Natural Farms, as part of the Mulloon Rehydration Initiative.* This drone footage was taken on 27 July 2020, in the days following a major pulse of water that flowed through Mulloon Creek. An east coast low had just delivered over 90mm of rain to the upper catchment and our dedicated field crew had to race ag...ainst the clock to complete four leaky weirs before the pulse of water arrived. With literally moments to spare the structures were secured before the full force of the water spilled forth. What would have previously been a torrential, high energy, erosive flow, now became a sequence quiet ponds and babbling riffles due to the new structures in place. NOTE - For each of these structures we applied for and received 'Controlled Activity Approvals' from the Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR). 15.01.2022 First-ever Ecological Outcome Verification certificate awarded in Australia Land to Market Australia is proud to announce the award of the first-ever Ecological Outcome Verification certificate in Australia to Mulloon Creek Natural Farms. Our 2019 monitoring report for Mulloon Creek Natural Farms (MCNF) has just been released, and I am pleased to announce, through this first-ever EOV report, that the health of their farmland is trending positive, said Land to Market Austral...ia Executive chair Tony Hill. Mulloon Creek Natural Farms has a leading national profile for regenerative agriculture and is owned by the not-for-profit Mulloon Institute, that was established by the late Tony Coote AM. The Mulloon Institute was selected by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) as one of five model case study projects globally. Carolyn Hall, CEO of The Mulloon Institute, said: Ecological Outcome Verification has become a vital part of our farming operation, as we work with various farm management approaches, because it gives us a robust measure of whether we are achieving our goals of improving ecological health. It gives the businesses and consumers confidence, through this independent verification approach, that they are supporting healthy agricultural production. Land to Market Australia believes the verification of ecological health is particularly relevant when farmers face dry times, to ensure the resilience of their farmland when rains fall. The Mulloon Institute is an enthusiastic supporter of the Land to Market Australia project, because it links our farming, national awareness and training activities with the opportunity for businesses and consumers to choose to spend their money in a way that builds ecological health, said Gary Nairn AO, chairman of the Mulloon Institute Board. Land to Market Australia has been recognised by Landcare NSW and Local Land Services NSW through their award as Grand Champion for the Australian Government Innovation in Agriculture Land Management Award for 2019. #mullooncreek #landtomarket #landtomarketaustralia #regenerativeagriculture #eov https://www.mcnf.com.au/

14.01.2022 "Regenerative Agriculture is a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services. Regenerative Agriculture Agriculture aims to capture carbon in soil and above ground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation. At the same time it offers increased yields, resilience to climate instability, and higher health and vitality for both farming communities and for those who depend upon their produce."

14.01.2022 2020-2023 Strategic Plan The Mulloon Institute's Board has completed its Strategic Plan for the next three years, which will in turn influence the activities at @MulloonCreekNaturalFarms. This was a substantial piece of work that commenced several months ago in pre-COVID-19 times. No doubt it is ambitious, but with so much interest in our work and in regenerative agriculture more broadly, the Board is confident that the timing is right.

09.01.2022 On-ground works for the Mulloon Rehydration Initiative (MRI) have been continuing along apace once we were able to access logs for the leaky weirs after a shortage caused by the summer bushfires. Project Coordinator Peter Hazell and his team have been very much 'back in the creek' directing another stage of the MRI. This image is looking straight down on leaky weir DM8 at Duralla, Mulloon Creek Natural Farms in late July. It was taken a few weeks before the recent flooding we've had during August, which we'll update you on shortly. Learn more about the MRI: https://bit.ly/2DSSjt5

09.01.2022 Interactions with microbes in the soil are crucial to the health of plants. Some bacteria turn nitrogen from the air into ammonia, and thence into nitrates, thus fixing that element in a form which plants can absorb and turn into proteins. Others, by secreting antibiotics, protect plants from pathogens. Others still, through the formation of colonies called biofilms on the surfaces of soil particles, help trap water in the soil.... And fungi, which consist of long networks of hyphae that often penetrate plant roots, facilitate the uptake by those roots of nutrients from the soil.

06.01.2022 Morning reflections on the big dam at Home Farm. You can see how much the water dropped during the drought but its slowly creeping back up, inch by inch.

06.01.2022 In an online lecture hosted by the Mulloon Institute last night, Dr Allan Savory said Australians and all nations face grave dangers from desertification, mega ...fires and climate change. Like frogs in slowly boiled water the fate of our grand children is in the hands of the current governing generation more than at any time history," he said. However, the scientific advisors that political and world leaders currently depend on and the many climate conferences and meetings vital to the future of humanity have so far delivered only conflict, chaos and confusion he said. It was an unarguable truth that if we do not address the cause of a problem we cannot solve it. In short, he said, it is clear that climate change is a management problem, he said. https://www.beefcentral.com//allan-savory-urges-world-lea/
