24.01.2022 We love reducing our waste! We're delighted easing of restrictions has enabled us to set our covid-safe cup stations and in turn, our food stallholders can use washable plates once again. Bring your used cups down to Dean ~ situated in the middle of the markets behind the music.

23.01.2022 It may be impossible to travel to Indonesia right now, but on a Friday morning at the Mullumbimby Farmers Market your tastebuds can take a trip there . Each week Rini Martinings and her partner Iwan serve up a flavour-packed selection of Indonesian street food at Warung Sedap, (roughly translated to 'cafe with delicious food'). The popular stall, formerly known as the Indonesian Kitchen, has been a part of the market since the very early days and has a huge following of regu...lar customers who return week after week. Inspired by the food of East Java where Rini was born, the menu features a range of quick tasty snacks like chicken kebabs with satay sauce, mie goreng (fried noodle), nasi goreng (fried rice) spring rolls, veggie or fresh corn fritters, and samosas, all served with home-made sweet chilli sauce or sambal. For something more substantial, there’s Rini’s famous traditional beef rendang curry, created with an authentic home-made curry paste. There’s also the hearty Indonesian brekkie - an omelette stuffed with veggies, and served with fried rice and fresh salad, which Rini and Iwan introduced to the menu earlier this year: 'It’s something we’d make in Indonesia if we were going to be working in the rice fields,' said Iwan, 'it’ll fill you up all day.’ For the sweet tooth, there are lepet - a delicious gluten-free Indonesian sweet made with a sticky rice, local lady finger bananas, sugar, shredded coconut and coconut cream, and then wrapped in an organic local banana leaf, or onde onde- a fried sesame ball filled with sweet mung bean paste. Almost everything is made from scratch, and veggies are sourced fresh from the market. Iwan says he and Rini often exchange their food for fresh produce from the farmers at the market. ‘They come and get some food from us and then they give us veggies in return,’ Iwan said. 'That’s what we do in the market.'

23.01.2022 If you ever wondered why Kate's avocados taste so good it's because she lets them ripen naturally. Whereas Its standard industry practice for a freshly picked avocado to be coated in pesticide, packed into cold storage where they will remain for weeks or months. Finally, they are artificially ripened with ethylene gas. Fortunately, it's a process Kate thinks makes no sense! Welcome back Kate we have missed you!!!! #organicavocado #organic #organicfarming #byronbay #northernriversfood #tropo

21.01.2022 Did catch the @thecassettesdance flash mob last Friday!? So much fun. Thanks for choosing Mullum Markets for your first performance back in 2020.

21.01.2022 Skye Johnston always wanted to live and work on the land, but it wasn’t until she faced a serious heath scare in 2016 that she made that dream a reality. ‘I thought I was going to be gone in six months,’ she said. ‘So I ended up signing on the dotted line, and moving from a 180 square metre block in Sydney to 127 acres up here in Rosebank.’... Four years later, she couldn't be happier with her new home and new life at Windaboo, a picturesque property of rolling hills and remnant rainforest. As well as being a healing place for Skye, Windaboo has become home to a menagerie of farm animals, a tourism venture and a new primary production business - Byron Gourmet Mushrooms. Skye enlisted the help of former chef Jed Wright and friend Toby Davidson to get the operation up and running, and the pair immersed themselves in the fascinating world of fungi growing. With Jed at the helm they have established a commercial mushroom operation supplying to local shops, cafes and restaurants, and distributors, and most recently, have begun selling direct to the public at the Mullumbimby Farmers Market. Byron Gourmet Mushrooms is certified organic, with all mushrooms grown with organic materials and by-products from local organic sugar cane, sustainable native timber plantations and pure rainwater harvested on the property. Lions mane, shiitake, king oysters, and pearl oyster are among the seasonal array of mushrooms they produce - varieties that are often hard to find as a fresh product because of their fragile nature. They also plan to expand into medicinal varieties in the near future. To enjoy their full flavour, Jed suggests keeping it simple. ‘Pan fry with a little bit of butter, maybe some herbs, finish with a squeeze of lemon and serve on a nice slice of sourdough.’

02.01.2022 We did it we won!!!! Mullum Farmers Market has been officially awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Farmers’ Market in the country by the 2020 delicious Harvey Norman Produce Awards. This was the second year we’ve been announced as one of three markets in the country to be shortlisted as a finalist. This year we faced stiff competition from Kiama Farmers Market and Alphington Farmers' Market. So we’re delighted today to be announced as the winners for 2020!!! Delicious Harvey Norm...an Produce Awards has been running for 15 years and is regarded as the most prestigious food industry awards. It’s judging panel includes some of Australia’s most renowned chefs such as Guillaume Brahimi, Peter Gilmore, Matt Moran, Neil Perry, Danielle Alvarez, Colin Fassnidge, along with the delicious team. What a year it’s been too. Kickstarting with drought, bushfires, flood and then COVID!!! It felt like 2020 was the year that just kept punching, so we can’t tell you how much this recognition means to all our amazing and extremely hardworking farmers and producers. It’s incredible how they achieve not only the consistency but the quality too. If you have time to stop and ask they are happy to share all their secrets! If nothing else, this year has taught us how important it is to support our local food economies. We wouldn’t have been be able to maintain this without the support of our community. A big thank you to all of you too. #knowyourproducer #produceawards #makeitdelicious #producetoyou DeliciousausHarvey Norman

01.01.2022 If you want to taste some of the incredible array of foods native to the Northern Rivers, a visit to Rainforest Foods at the Mullum and New Brighton Farmers Market is a must. Tangy Davidsons Plum sauce, riberry jam, finger lime marmalade and lemon aspen jelly are among the delicious native flavours on offer, along with macadamias, macadamia butter, and macadamia oil. The Northern Rivers most famous nut, the macadamia, is the star of the Rainforest Foods stall and they’re available in all shapes and forms. There are dry-roasted, honey-roasted and milk and dark chocolate coated whole nuts, however it’s the plain and simple natural, raw macadamia that remains Rainforest Foods' best seller.

01.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE MARKET TEAM! We hope you're spending time with your loved ones and enjoying the holiday season.
