24.01.2022 On behalf of the National Committee, we're thinking of all LGBTIQ+ people from communities of colour and faith, especially our members in Sydney, who have been impacted by the Northern Beaches COVID-19 outbreak. We are particularly thinking about international students, asylum seekers and refugees, newly arrived migrants, trans and gender diverse people, people with disability and chronic illness, and anyone who ordinarily find this time of the year difficult. Having festive... season plans disrupted isn't what we envisioned for the end of 2020, especially those who would celebrate with their chosen family. AGMC is here for you, we see you and hear you. Please reach out if you need support, and we will try our best to support you. If you need to talk to someone now, the following services are available: 1. QLife: 1800 184 527 (3PM until midnight) 2. Rainbow Door: 1800 729 367 or text 0480 017 246 (10AM-6PM) 3. Lifelife: 13 11 14 (24/7), or via text on 0477 131 114 (12PM-midnight) or online at www.lifeline.org (24/7)

13.01.2022 Iridescent Festival at Hares & Hyenas begins tomorrow, and runs November 18th to 29th. There are so many fabulous events and we would love to see you there. Spread the word and come along. http://www.wordisout.com.au/iridescent-calendar Welcome to Melbourne’s new queer People of Colour and queer First Peoples (QPoC) arts and culture festival. Iridescent sprang from a conversation with Mark Nannup about inviting Indigenous programming to Hare Hole. He talked about existing rel...ationships between QPoC and queer Indigenous performers and saw it as good fit for a festival. Mama Alto, a highly accomplished curator and programmer, came along to the next meeting and soon joined the team. After receiving a starting grant from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Mama Alto became the festival’s curator and its main program driver. Neither she nor Hares knew what sort of year lay ahead for any of us: bereavement, trauma and artistic highlights like the all-consuming triumph of Gender Euphoria were to shape our year and our plans. Through it all Iridescent developed and it now roll outs over the next 12 days. Mama Alto has designed Iridescent to offer experiences for everyone. There are many gifts in its structure. The incredible array of artists taking part is just one gift. Other gifts are the festival’s ‘pay what you can’ policy and the many opportunities for conversation, exchange and sharing in the autonomous communities free afternoon tea series. They are in the six multi-disciplinary performance and storytelling nights, each specialised and inclusive. It is in QPoC life drawing, in the panel discussion by culture pioneers AGMC and in the history night that features two Kulin people respectively talking about the recent past the effects of colonisation on Language. There is a workshop for budding visual artists and one for writers. There is an opportunity to hook up (or not) at QPoC speed dating, and one of the festival’s most precious gifts is Mama Alto’s plan that every Iridescent artist and any interested QPOC people receives a photo taken by renowned performance photographer Alexis Desaulniers. A good headshot can make the difference for emerging artists between getting a gig and missing out. Iridescent welcomes you all aboard. We hope you can come along and that you find in Iridescent a home of friendship, art, culture and celebration. All events: http://www.wordisout.com.au/iridescent-calendar

02.01.2022 We were disappointed to hear that the Australian Human Rights Commission withdrew its tender for a campaign on structural #racism recently, because racism was seen as interpersonal by the Australian Government. Our community faces structural racism because of our inherent intersectional identity. Discrimination is not simply interpersonal, because we can't compartmentalise our experiences of discrimination relating to our gender identity, our sex, our disability, our inters...ex variation, our sexuality, or our faiths. We face multiple layers of discrimination, including racism, and these require structural solutions. Read the article here: https://www.theaustralian.com.au//b5ed8501d87a9636f4afefc7

There will be 37 free events, both online and in person, as part of a week-long celebration for Bi+ Visibility Day, commemorated annually on September 23. The op...ening event will be a discussion with Shiri Eisner, author of Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution. Bisexuals (Bi+ is a term used here to refer to all multi-gender-attracted folk, including pansexuals) have long been the silent B in LGBTQIA+, often suffering stigma, misunderstanding, and invisibility from both queer and heterosexual communities. The Stand Bi Us Conference aims to celebrate community, visibility and expression, across Australia and New Zealand (and beyond), with workshops, panels, arts performances, discussions, groups, a party and even a few in-person events, where legal and possible. Topics range from polyamory to pansexuality to pets and a lot more. See the website for the full listing of events. www.standbius.com See more

01.01.2022 It's so important to centre trans voices of colour in any trans law reform in Australia. Our friends at ACON and Equality Australia, who are working with other trans organisations across the country, want to tackle laws in NSW, Qld and WA that continue to place up barriers for trans people next year. Barriers such as requirements for surgery or medical treatment, and for people to update gender markers on their birth certificates, are just some things that need reforming.... To do this, we need to hear from trans and gender diverse people of colour across Australia. Those those who love them are also encouraged to complete the survey. For those in states and territories who have already reformed their laws, we’re asking for stories of the positive impact of these changes Please share the survey with the trans people of colour you love. We want to hear about the impact of these laws and whether they may be interested in helping change them. Complete the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T6FTJBN https://fb.watch/2w3sRpIFt3/
