05.01.2022 COVID-19 vaccine The Commonwealth Australian Department of Health will be rolling out Australia’s COVID-19 vaccine. SA Health is working closely with the Department of Health to develop a vaccine plan for South Australia.... The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine will be different from other vaccination programs. It will be made available to South Australians in phases from mid-February. The first phase will be made available to people who are most vulnerable to COVID-19 or who have the highest risk of being exposed to, or spreading, the virus. This includes residents and staff of aged and disability care facilities, medi-hotel and airport staff and health care workers in high risk areas, such as COVID-19 testing clinics and emergency departments. The vaccine program will take time to roll out. It is expected the vaccination of the general community will begin from mid-2021. Each person requires two doses of the vaccine, so it will take time for all South Australians to be immunised against the virus. More information about how, where and when people can access the vaccine will be available in the coming months. Once the vaccine is available in Australia, it will only be one of keeping the community safe and healthy. It is important people continue to practice good hygiene, physical distancing and getting tested and staying home when sick. Some key information about the COVID-19 vaccine: The first doses of the vaccine will be given to people who need it most. The vaccine will be free. The vaccine will be available for everyone in South Australia in a phased roll out. The vaccine will be voluntary. The Therapeutic Goods Administration assesses the vaccine for safety, quality and effectiveness. For the latest information visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidvaccine
