25.01.2022 Our beautiful country continues to burn from coast to coast. There have been, and will continue to be, unfathomable losses of lives, homes and wildlife. There is an overwhelming feeling of helplessness as we watch our fellow Aussies battle together in a fight that seems so vast and will continue for weeks to come. Even though many of us are geographically so far away from the fight, we still want to help the people on the ground: the firefighters who are on the front line, th...e volunteers who are feeding displaced families and the carers who are rescuing burnt and injured wildlife. And then, once the immediate danger has eased, Australians will need to rebuild. Some of the organisations that you can donate to are: The Salvation Army Australia Disaster Appeal - The Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams deliver crucial support right when and where its needed, and then stay as long as it takes to help local communities make a full recovery. http://ow.ly/kv7w50xM7ED Foodbank Australia - National food relief organisation Foodbank is working to get food and drink supplies to affected areas, both to support first responders such as firefighters and affected communities. 24.01.2022 The Rules of Advertising for Social Media Influencers In recent years we have seen the rise of the Social Media Influencer. Some may have a career where brand endorsement is a common perk of the job, however in most cases the Social Media Influencer tends to be a regular person, with a particular interest or hobby and a truck load of followers. The concept of ‘celebrity’ is now seen as more achievable due to the use of Social Media accounts. No longer, do people need to rely ...on honing a particular talent and becoming the top of their game, because now their platform of choice is immediately available right there in their own home. The problem with this of course is that brand endorsement or sponsorships is a paid relationship and, as such, is subject to the codes and rules of advertising. And a good proportion of these new Influencers are not only unaware of the existence of these rules, but also don’t realise that they apply to them. A Social Media Influencer is successful and gains followers when they are seen as trustworthy and credible and therefore their ‘choice’ of brands is seen as a recommendation. The paradox here is that by getting away with not highlighting that they are being paid by a brand for their recommendation is inherently dishonest. By the very nature of the beast, Social Media is a difficult industry to regulate. Since February, the onus is on the individual to identify whether a post is sponsored through the use of hashtags (#ad, #advert, #advertising, #brandedcontent, #PaidPartnership, #PaidPromotion) or mentions the sponsorship in the caption. However in recent cases, we have seen that the regulator will accept that simply tagging the sponsoring brand is enough to indicate that a post is sponsored. So what comes next for SM Influencers? We’re watching this space. https://www.smh.com.au//so-many-are-unethical-influencers-

22.01.2022 Earlier in the year, we posted about how Google announced that it would be adding page experience to the Google Search ranking. So, let's recap what Google considers good 'page experience', and what you need to focus on. Primarily you need to think about like page load time, is your website m...obile friendly, does it run on HTTPS, are there any intrusive ads, and does the content jump around as the page loads? 'Page experience' is made up of several existing Google search ranking factors, but now they will have weight and ranking in the overall Google ranking algorithm. In order to prepare for the change there are a number of tools listed in the linked article that you can use to test your page experience. You can also give us a call and book a UX review of your website. https://smk.co//google-announces-new-seo-ranking-signals-f

This means that if Google thinks your website users may have a poor experience using your site, then your Google ranking will suffer.... 18.01.2022 Theres been a lot in the news about privacy issues with Zoom and "zoombombing" recently and many people are confused as to whether they can use Zoom safely or not to hold private online meetings. Wired Magazine covers the tech industry with a focus on the internet, digital culture, science and security and is a good reliable source of information when you need to check something in the digital space, but want it in plain English rather than techy terms. This Wired article ...published on April 5 gives you a good overview of tips to keep your Zoom chats private and secure. For quick reference, use passwords, dont share meeting IDs publicly and use the waiting rooms to manage who enters your meetings. If you need more security - theres some suggestions of alternatives in the article. Stay safe everyone - both online and offline! https://www.wired.com/story/keep-zoom-chats-private-secure/

17.01.2022 Last week, Instagram launched Reels a new short form video creation tool that has been introduced as a new feature accessible within your Instagram account. The launch comes amidst the growing global concern over the possibility that Tik Toks Chinese parent company is passing on user data to the Chinese government. The launch of Reels in competition with Tik Tok represents a similar move by Instagram where it launched Instagram Stories in competition with Snapchat in Augus...t 2016. The main difference in both instances is that these are launches of a feature within the app as opposed to the introduction of a competing stand-alone app. The linked articles discuss the differences between the two and also look at how exactly to activate the Reels feature in your Instagram account. Instagram Stories has made a definite impact on Snapchat since it launched, with 500 million people now using Instagram Stories every day. On top of that, 62% of people say they have become more interested in a brand or product after seeing it in Instagram Stories, which means that Instagram Stories represents a large opportunity for businesses. It will be interesting to see the level of adoption for Instagram Reels and whether it affects the use of Tik Tok in the coming months. https://www.howtogeek.com//what-is-instagram-reels-and-is/ https://mumbrella.com.au/instagram-launches-tiktok-competit Data from Instagram Press, via Hootsuite article https://blog.hootsuite.com/instagram-statistics/.

13.01.2022 This represents a different approach for digital marketers - specifically focusing SEO strategies into pre and post purchase. Ideally, in order to achieve the best result from this strategy, you need to have easy access to your search data and the keywords and terms that your customers are using to search for you. The idea of using a traditional Marketing strategy - that of the Buying Lifecycle for SEO purposes is a very sound theory. Every customer goes through the lifecycle... whether in person or online. And now that we are purchasing more online, this strategy will help to take advantage of those customers who utilise Google as a research tool both pre and post purchase. If youre interested in defining specific SEO strategies for your business, feel free to call us at Multiplier Digital. We can take you through your search data and help define the best strategies for your business. https://searchengineland.com/why-marketers-should-break-seo

12.01.2022 Well, it would seem that TikTok has a competitor in the short-form video app market. Zynn is the newest app which hit the top of the US App Store chart last week. Zynn allows users to discover and create 15 second videos using a huge music library, in-app effects and then share them. Sounds just like TikTok right? The big difference is the inbuilt reward scheme where users earn rewards for viewing videos and inviting friends to the app. These rewards can then be used for i...n-app purchases or transferred to online gift cards. Which means it works perfectly for the #stayhome movement worldwide, who get to play with a new app and this time, get paid for it. Its an interesting read and highlights that the new competitor may result in a bigger shake up of this space. https://www.socialmediatoday.com//the-rise-of-new-/578733/

That means you can find out more about Argentines discussing Astrological Intuition or the rise of Vegetarianism in Germany. Or that Australias leading conversation is Wellness, with gut health recently taken centre stage. The 2020 Report is similar to Facebooks monthly Hot Topics and Topics to Watch reports, however presented with more in-depth data. 11.01.2022 Google has released a significant upgrade to Google Ads in order to deliver more visual options across Search, Shopping and Display campaigns, with more features announced and yet to come. These new changes represent a Facebookification of Google which highlights the direction Google is now taking. In the past 2 years, Google has been working to future proof their shopping offerings against competitors such as Amazon and Facebook. And considering that we are now staying hom...e more (and doing more online shopping) now is the perfect time for that release. For Search Ads we will see an improved range of image extensions. There is already a wide range of existing ad extensions available, these offer further information and clickable CTAs (call to action). They are free and easy to set up and will work to drive your click through rate and conversions. For Shopping and Display Ads you will be able highlight features. Also later this year, you should be able to create a carousel of your most relevant products and include video content in your display ads. If you would like to talk about your current Google Ads Search and/or Display campaigns and find out how to make them more effective, contact us at Multiplier Digital. https://smk.co/article/google-ads-mega-visual-upgrade

In addition to playing our part and returning to shop with our favourites, we can bump up our support... by recommending these small businesses on social media with a new sticker launched by Instagram. Just a note - if you cant immediately see the Support Small Business sticker in your sticker tray, try updating your Instagram app and then waiting a bit before trying again. https://later.com/blog/support-small-business-sticker/

10.01.2022 How the Facebook Algorithm Works in 2021 and How to Work With It. The Facebook algorithm continues to change and become more complex for both users and Social Media Managers. Organic Reach for Facebook posts continues to drop, in 2020 the average reach was 5.2%, down from 7.7% in 2018. The average engagement rate for those organic posts is 0.25%, but if you have more than 100k followers that number drops to 0.08%. So how, as a small to medium business, do you use Facebook to ...reach and target your audience and also engage them with valuable content that can work to drive sales? Well, we're not going to sugar coat it - it's tricky. You need a Facebook strategy that combines both paid and organic content, but you also need a defined set of strategic marketing objectives before you start building your content. The linked article defines the four ranking signals that Facebook consistently considers the most important when deciding how high up in the news feed your post will appear. Importantly, even when you meet all of Facebook’s (or Google’s) requirements in order to improve your organic and paid reach, strong marketing strategy based on business principles remains as important as ever. 09.01.2022 The industry is currently awash with talk about the impact of the coming iOS 14 update on Facebook and more specifically, Facebook advertisers. If you're not quite across what's happening, here is a brief update. When Apple announced the iOS14 update last year, there was quite a fall-out. As part of the update, major changes would be made to data tracking permissions that would significantly impact Facebook advertisers, publishers and app developers.... In particular, users would be delivered a prompt upon opening an app to opt in to Facebook tracking activity. As it seems unlikely that the majority of users would choose to opt in to being tracked, Facebook was understandably unhappy with the change. Facebook relies heavily on user usage information in order to provide data, help develop advertising campaigns, identify target markets and create remarketing campaigns. Without this tracking data, all of this becomes much more difficult. All apps within the Facebook family will be affected plus apps that monetise with the Audience Network, which is a placement utilised by Facebook advertisers worldwide. This includes both large and small businesses that use the platform for advertising. The linked article looks at some of the impacts of this change but also suggest some recommended next steps for Facebook advertisers. As of Aug 2020, approximately 52% of the Australian market were Apple users - this means that more than half of the available target market for Australian businesses using Facebook advertising will be affected by this change. We are following this very closely at Multiplier Digital and will continue to keep you updated. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/facebook-advertiser//

08.01.2022 Theres a lot of jargon thrown around in the Digital Marketing space. One of those terms that you may often hear is Evergreen Content. What you may not understand however, is how evergreen content can provide an answer to delivering your website with consistent organic traffic over an extended period of time. 07.01.2022 Google is pushing back the launch of the next algorithm update which focuses on Page Experience. Originally scheduled to launch in May, the new timeframe gives us at least another month to get ready, with the new roll out date somewhere in mid June (Google likes to keep us guessing). We have been keeping an eye on this one for you as we have written about the update previously and how it could affect your rankings in the future. So, let's recap what Google considers good 'pag...e experience', and what this roll out means to your website. Primarily, you need to think about the following: How quick is your page load time? Is your website mobile friendly? Is it secure, meaning does it run on HTTPS? Are there any intrusive ads? And does the content jump around as the page loads? 'Page experience' is made up of several existing Google search ranking factors, but now they will have weight and ranking in the overall Google ranking algorithm. Google has announced that even though the roll out will begin in June, it won’t be complete until the end of August. This means that we won’t really see the results of the roll out until a few months after that. If you have any concerns as to how your website needs to be optimised, feel free to give us a call at Multiplier Digital. And as always, we will continue to keep you posted. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-page-experie//

05.01.2022 Here at Multiplier Digital, weve been working as a virtual team for almost 5 years. Weve been making the most of online communication tools and software to keep our team virtually in sync long before COVID-19 darkened our doorsteps. Google has added another video-conferencing service to its suite, Google Meet is similar to Zoom with a few differences, the biggest being that Google Meet is free. Google M...eet can add up to 100 participants on a video call for an unlimited time until Sept 30, when it will be capped at 60 mins, which is a bit more than the Zoom cap of 40 mins. Granted, it doesnt have all the bells and whistles of Zoom - like the recording feature. 03.01.2022 There is a lot of talk about the Australian proposed legislation which will change how Google operates in Australia. Our friends at Search Engine Land have provided a third party perspective on what is happening, how it differs to what happened in France and, of course, implications for Australians if the changes become law. In Australia, Google accounts for just over 94% of the search market which means it has a huge influence over how people access information and where t...hat information comes from. The News Media Bargaining Code seeks to compensate news publishers for links to their content in Google’s search results. Google has objected to a number of the code stipulations including the payments, the provision of 14 days advance notice of algorithm changes and the installation of an arbitration process. Google has threatened to turn off search in Australia if the proposed code was to become law, and they can and could do it which would have wide reaching implications for not only Australian news publishers but for everyone. Microsoft Bing search engine has been in discussions with the Australian Government and has indicated that they're ready to step in and fill any gaps. We’re following the progress of this very closely and will continue to provide you with further updates. https://searchengineland.com/australias-showdown-with-googl

On 14th January, Google announced that they were rolling out a new look for Google search results to streamline how Google Ads look versus organic search results. 01.01.2022 Did anyone notice their Facebook Messenger icon change colour last week? This represents a move from Facebook to merge Messenger with Instagram DMs. At the start of 2019, Mr Zuckerberg set out the roadmap for the future of Facebook and we saw the idea of the entire family of Facebook apps working together with messaging as a core piece of this move. More than 100 billion messages are sent across Facebook's apps every day. Therefore, consolidating all of these messenger touchp...oints does make sense. The best thing about this is that you no longer have to remember which app you were using when you had a particular conversation, they will all be on one. Your friends on Messenger can now contact you on Instagram without them having to download the app, similarly those on Insta will be able to reach people who have Messenger without opening that app. Hooray, for making things easier. Of course the move has some critics, the linked article takes you through a few of these. It also outlines the list of all the new features involved with the change. The move is unarguably going to make it easier for users to stay in touch and let's face it, that's never a bad thing. https://smk.co//facebook-messenger-merges-with-instagram-d

01.01.2022 Another Digital Life Hack and this one is perfect for the school holidays :) Did you know that you can limit features on your child's device? Even better, you can set a time limit on a device - that's right, you can cut them off (with a passcode, so they can't wiggle around it). Guided Access is a feature available on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The linked article takes you through how to set up the feature, start the session and then how to control and end the session.... School holidays can be both wonderful and enormously tricky to navigate. Plus, our kids are continuing to get smarter, especially when it comes to devices and wheedling extra time out of us. This can help. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT202612
