23.01.2022 At Multisonics we often notice that Christmas seems to be an excellent time to buy yourself a present and after months of lockdown you obviously deserve it! Here’s some food for thought. Multisonics is open Wednesday to Saturday 11-4 and 11-3 on Sunday. 631 High St Thornbury

23.01.2022 Rolls portable HiFi $450 So now for something on a smaller scale. This substantial portable record player was made in the early 1960s by Rolls in Australia. Its fitted with a classy English Garrard turntable as many Aussie made players were. It’s packs up as a suitcase (a reasonably hefty suitcase) and produces a great sound for a portable and has a valve amplifier. The 4 speed turntable is fully automatic plus this Rolls HiFi has an auxiliary input for more modern fun all round. You might notice in the last picture that we have another one the same awaiting its beauty treatment and test drive. His and hers!

21.01.2022 The lights are on and someone’s home. Progress report on the Blaupunkt New York at Multisonics, department of head scratching and lightbulb moments. I’m so grateful it’s Philip and Jesse working on its brains and not me.

20.01.2022 I have to say that we think this Blaupunkt is something really special and we are delighted to show it to you. This lovely Stereogram sounds as good as it looks. You can align the centre unit and separate speakers together as a single piece or set the speakers apart to suit your space. We are still researching this model and think it’s late 1960’s early 70’s. The cabinet design is timeless and the light teak exterior is complimented by a darker veneer on the interior. The solid state amplifier and turntable were great quality in their day and the cabinet is well made with handy storage and space for your tape player. You can plug your phone or iPod into it too. $2500 Sad to say our doors are still closed, so send us a message for any enquiries

19.01.2022 This great looking Astor Stereomaster has just come into the shop. It’s a substantial 3 piece modular Stereogram and comes with its very own stand with groovy legs. Being a modular it allows you to place the speakers further apart if you so desire. It’s a great sounding record player with an automatic turntable, am radio and you can also plug your phone into it with the lead supplied. The Astor Stereomaster has record storage too which is always handy. $895

18.01.2022 She speaks! She sings! The rough and not yet ready Blaupunkt New York has an experimental play at Multisonics. Very happy so far. Stay tuned

18.01.2022 Here’s the sweet little 1930s Democrat Radogram at Multisonics in all its glory. It looks to be a homemade electric 78 player that actually uses steel needles and it has been brought back to life by Philip to sing those old songs once again plus the radio works! It’s made to only play 78s so if you have a stack of shellac at home you are all set. $220 with spare needles. Send us a message for any enquiries

17.01.2022 So here’s another beautiful German Stereogram just about ready for a new home. This mid 1960’s Grundig Trento has a handsome dark glossy cabinet with a gorgeous blond interior housing the turntable and amplifier, hidden behind sliding doors. It has a lovely, full warm sound with a valve amplifier and the tweeters positioned on either side to enhance the stereo spread. Although the cabinet has a few signs of wear it’s still a beautiful thing, and you can sit whatever you like on the top. It’s ready for its final test drive and will be $895 Now Sold. Get in touch with any enquiries.

17.01.2022 Here’s a little something to entertain, playing with the radio dial on an elderly Democrat radiogram made especially to play 78s. More to follow.

13.01.2022 Philip is delighted to be making some headway with this marvellous amplifier that has been behaving badly in an inexplicable manner, until now. Can anyone tell what it’s from? Brand? Model?

13.01.2022 For those of you who enjoy the little details, here’s some photos taken of the back panel and inner workings of the Blaupunkt New York which is our latest challenge at Multisonics. The outside of the reverb unit is a marvel to behold. Stay safe and keep yourselves entertained.

09.01.2022 Here’s a charming little Healing Stereogram from the early 1960s that can play your regular records, old 78s and you can plug in your phone too! Costing 103.95 back in 1963 it was a pricey purchase for the average household. This is one of our favourite Healing designs and one we rarely find. The turntable and amplifier have been fully serviced and the cabinet cleaned and polished. Although showing its history on the finish this Healing stereogram still presents a charismatic picture. $650 with auxiliary lead included. Now SOLD. Multisonics is open 11-4 today and 11-3 on Sunday

09.01.2022 The Democrat plays a tune at Multisonics.

09.01.2022 So here’s something extremely interesting that’s in its very early stages at Multisonics. You may remember the beautiful Blaupunkt New York Stereogram we have at the moment built in the late 1960s, well this is the late 1950s version of the New York. The New York was the top of the line model at Blaupunkt and they made various versions through the years. Always worthwhile. It was shipped out from Hamburg in 1960 as a gift and came with a fabulous array of paperwork to tell it...s story, with shipping and customs documents, various brochures and technical spreads (conveniently in German) and even receipts for repairs and letters of instructions for its arrival. Its looking promising, although it’s at the turn it on briefly and then turn it off straight away stage. For a moment it sounded great but we didn’t want to risk a proper test until we’ve had the amp out and given it a thorough going over. I will say we are currently optimistic though that can change. This New York has been fitted with a nice dual turntable at some stage and it also has a rather fascinating huge reverb unit in cylinder form that will take some nutting out. The top of the cabinet has suffered from some disrespectful treatment but Im hoping with some love we can bring it back to life even if it has the patina of its years. I will keep you posted on its progress, fingers crossed it doesn’t get depressing. Meanwhile have a look. See more

09.01.2022 Although our doors aren’t exactly flying open right now we are very busy getting everything ready for our customers and figuring out the best way to manage things. So please stay posted while we organise our current shamozzle and get in touch if you are after something in particular. Thanks for your patience and it will all be happening soon.

06.01.2022 We enjoy a pretty car at Multisonics and this fabulous 1971 (73 actually!) Buick Riviera Boattail was parked right out the front today. Very pretty car.

06.01.2022 Here’s a couple of cuties we’ve coaxed back to life. The first is a little mystery number in a metal case. It’s basically a diminutive Philips turntable made to be plugged into the amp of a radio to upgrade it to a radiogram. The other is a Lincoln portable record player that came to us in a sad filthy state and we have since cheered it up enormously. Please send us a message for any enquiries. Fingers crossed we can re-emerge in person soon.

03.01.2022 It’s always fun to compare. Here’s the latest Stromberg Carlson tabletop radiogram, just getting its finishing touches, compared to the one we’ve just sold. The latest little number has inset gold lettering rather than raised on the front and a smart white interior. It has maroon auto stacker arms rather than the brass on the other one. It also has a maroon flock lid interior instead of the black on the sold Stromberg Carlson, otherwise they are pretty much identical. Both would have been made late 1950’s in Sydney and both have automatic stacker turntables. Lucky us to have had 2!

03.01.2022 We are just putting the finishing touches on this dear old girl at Multisonics and although she’s only a few years older than the mighty beautiful Blaupunkt in my last post, she’s definitely a different cup of tea. This is an HMV Caprice Stereogram built some time between 1961-65 in Australia and cost around 104 when new. This particular Caprice hasn’t always been treated with the care she deserved but we turned our Multisonics TLC factor to the max and she lives to sing again. Small and sweet and fitted with an auxiliary input too, this Caprice will be ready soon. Send us a message for any enquiries.

02.01.2022 Here’s a big handsome beastie from the 1970s that’s just landed at Multisonics all serviced and cleaned and ready for some beefy action. It’s a Sanyo 4 Channel Quadraphonic modular Stereogram complete with all 4 speakers and in lovely condition. $850 with auxiliary lead included. Now SOLD. We are open this weekend so come and have a listen while we still have it. 631 High St Thornbury. 11-4 Saturday and 11-3 Sunday.

01.01.2022 We have now made our front room presentable and full of goodies for you. We are open in a covid kind of way with a limit of 4 people at a time with masks and we have hand sanitiser at the door, plus contact numbers are taken. We love it if people let us know when they are coming and also have a contact number at the door if it’s locked. We apologise if our hours are a little rickety due to some non covid drama happening behind the scenes. So at the moment we are open 11-4 Wednesday to Sunday. Other times can be arranged by appointment.

01.01.2022 So here’s a sneak peek and an answer to the mystery amp question posted earlier. It a Blaupunkt! And a stunner at that. This Blaupunkt is still a work in progress but it’s coming along a treat and will soon move to the cleaning, beautification and test drive phase. It has a stylish modernist design with clean straight lines, inset handles and metal legs in a charcoal finish. It’s equipped with a fabulous amplifier and quality turntable with plenty of storage in the cabinet and room for a tape player if you so desire. I will keep you posted on this one.

01.01.2022 5 years ago we were invited to set up a Multisonics corner at Thomas’ in the city, a long lived record shop specialising in fabulous classical music and jazz . Sadly Thomas’ is no longer with us and missed by many. I’m glad Multisonics is still going even in a subdued form during this nasty pandemic. I hope very one is getting something out of spring and enjoying what you can.
