18.01.2022 Less Rona more guitar stuff.. loopers are fun, there's something really great about an instant jam session in a pedal but with all the tech and features comes SMT component pcb's and their inherent inability to be repaired easily without specialised equipment. This can often mean the cost of a repair can fast approach the cost of a replacement unit. Occasionally you get lucky though and this one fell into the category of a repairable 'mechanical fault'. At some point the 9v ...battery had deteriorated and leaked, this in turn seized the momentary switch and the battery compartment screw. The fix involved carefully removing the momentary switch and then opening it up and clearing the jam with a 5/16" drill bit. The battery compartment screw was a case of vice grips and WD40 old school like. Fortunately a spare was on hand in the spare screws dept.. actually it had been floating around in there a decade. Anyway, another bit of new gear saved from land fill. Pics for your enjoyment. Stay safe folks.. cheers! See more

18.01.2022 Picked up a 67 year old Astor Radio over the weekend from the same garage sale I got the lights from. It's beyond it as a radio but the mains transformer checks out and the output transformer's preliminary tests are good. The 5Y3GT rectifier still good too! The cap can checks out OK too amazingly enough! Going to build a single ended 6AQ5 amp out of it as it originally had a 6AQ5 output stage and the 7 pin mini sockets are already there. I also received a couple of 6AQ5's from David at Retrovox to play with when I ordered some other NOS goodies so I needed to find a home for them. Stay tuned.

15.01.2022 An amazingly clean example of an early 1990's Peavey 'Scorpion Equipped' Bandit 112. reacts only.

12.01.2022 More guitar stuff less Covid. Another day at the office.. first sighting of one of these newfangled Positive Grid Spark amplifiers, performing CPR on an AP5 pickup system and sketching out manufacturing some more unobtainium. I need more coffee.

05.01.2022 Happy fathers day to all the Guitar Dad's out there!

04.01.2022 Gettin' the band back together.. well not really.. but I scored a couple of funky old MXR pedals to go with my recently aquired Version 6 Big Muff so it's almost time to build another 'old school' pedal board. 1981 Distortion +, 1982 Micro Flanger, 1992 Dyna Comp (pre pcb mount jacks). There's a real vintage MXR Phase 45 on it's way here soon too. I wonder if I can locate another Boss TU12H to replace my old one for some real 1990's authenticity?

03.01.2022 Hi all, here's some photo's of a recently completed 'long term' project that's just come out of the 'time tunnel'. This Alver 'Cowboy Guitar' has just undergone some major work to make it play. It's had a neck re-set with the neck angle changed considerably to improve the geometry of the guitar. These old Alvers are notorious for having unplayable actions and no break angle over the saddle, and as a result they are more often than not relegated to being 'wall hangers'. Part ...of making this all work meant all frets had to come out and the fingerboard planed/sanded, frets re-fitted, oversprayed with tinted nitro. All this over and above re-setting the neck. Once all this was done only then can it be dressed and setup. A new nice bone saddle was carved up and a set of suitable replacement machine heads were fitted as well. This guitar has got a set of silk and steels on it as it's ladder braced and there is no truss rod adjustment. Not sure if there even is one tbh.. it may have a non adjustable reinforced neck but I didn't see any evidence of that in the heel when the neck was off. Anyway, this now plays better than ever and and sounds kinda cool. It's off to it's new home in Tassie soon. I'm gonna be sad to see it go! Enjoy the pics See more

02.01.2022 Went to a garage sale this morning and acquired some workbench lighting upgrades. Love the colour of the 1960's bedside lamp.. now a drill press light. The magnifying lamp is long overdue addition too.. I used to use one years ago and had forgotten how great they are!
