25.01.2022 Today's antenatal information is about placentas! Are you around 20 weeks and recently been to your visit with your midwife or doctor and they said your placenta is low lying? As you can see from the picture placenta location can vary. Normally the placenta embeds in the upper portion of the uterus, however, in some cases, it is what we call low lying. ... If the placenta is <2 cm from the internal os or cervical opening then a follow-up ultrasound is needed at around 32 weeks to see if the placenta has moved up the side of the uterus to a safe level for vaginal delivery. If the placenta is partially covering the cervix then it is called placenta praevia. see the picture below. In some cases, the placenta will remain <2cm from the internal os or covering the cervix so vaginal delivery becomes unsafe and a caesarian delivery will be scheduled. If you have received the news that your placenta is low don't be too alarmed, however, and bleeding must be checked out immediately. Call the birthing unit of the hospital you are checked into to arrange a time to be monitored.

15.01.2022 Inhumane, unjust and purely unethical is what this is!! This isn’t different to the situation here in QLD when they had our recent lockdown and the disgraceful ...behaviour by Metro North and Metro South hospitals!! #Repost @the.birth.space This is the situation right now in Perth. 45000 people in masks attending the Derby this weekend. Yet women can only have one support person in labour. I know of two Mummas on the weekend who, when birthing their babies had to choose between their Doula or their partner to be at the birth. A Doula who has been with them throughout their pregnancy, given them support, encouragement, birth education and was getting ready to do her best work at the main event. Or their partner who was excited to meet their baby. One of these Mummas chose her Doula. Some care providers may feel sorry that this is the case but will our hospitals do anything to press the issue with the state government and step up to support birthing women? The cynic in me says, I doubt it. When will birth be seen as a priority? As a transformative experience for a mother that deserves support and love? This rule stinks @mark_mcgowan_mp @rogercookmla
