24.01.2022 Knowledge is power. Prevention is key. Creating a plan won’t ever be perfect, but having conversations *before* you’re sleep-deprived and more emotional can save so much heartache. #maternalmentalhealth #pregnancy #motherhood #newparenthood #perinatalmentalhealth #antenatalanxiety #anxiety #depression #adjustmenttoparenthood #mumsmatter #mumsmatterpsychology Reposted from @maternalmentalhealthutah

22.01.2022 We live with ever changing and fluctuating feelings; Each of them an important part of us, Each of them valid. It’s okay if you’re feeling a lot of things right now,... It’s okay if the sensation of feeling all these emotions is a bit overwhelming. Feelings are part of the human experience Reposted from @laurajaneillustrations #motherhood #perinatalmentalhealth #maternalmentalhealth #newparenthood #emotions #emotionalregulation #mumsmatter #mumsmatterpsychology

18.01.2022 One of the things that has come up a lot since we emerged from hard lockdown has been the challenges associated with setting limits and communicating boundaries with loved ones. Ultimately boundaries should reflect our specific needs and context. It is especially important in the perinatal period that we are able to practice assertive communication and set (and hold) boundaries where necessary. #mumsmatter #boundaries #assertivecommunication #anxiety #depression #newparenthood #motherhood #perinatalmentalhealth #maternalmentalhealth #mumsmatterpsychology Original post from Sara Kuburic

01.01.2022 As we explore anger this week, it's important to point out that sleep loss is a risk factor for anger. People may have jokingly said to you "sleep while you can" before bringing baby home. Something they may have not mentioned is that sleep will become a topic of obsession. You will crave sleep, obsess over it, be angered by it's loss, and triggered by all the things that are taking from your ability to get restful sleep. In their research, Saghir, Syeda, Muhammad, & Ba...lla Abdalla (2018) found that: 1.) When we don't get enough sleep, we can become increasingly angry and aggressive 2.) Sleep deprivation can cause the emotional center of our brain (the amygdala) to be really sensitive to negative stimuli Reposted from Psyched Mommy #perinatalmentalhealth #maternalmentalhealth #postnatalanxiety #sleepdeprivation #sleep #newborns #pregnancy #birth #newparenthood #newmotherhood #motherhood #mumsmatter #mumsmatterpsychology
