23.01.2022 Congratulations to Sarah Thornton-Smith for her work 60 Degrees Inside, 2020 being acquired by the Shire of Mundaring from Safe Keeping. This work represents a significant shift in Sarah’s creative practice, one which is already unique and highly skilled. Spurred by the challenges faced personally and by communities broadly across 2020, through this work she illustrates the difficulties of maintaining connection and intention with a genuine willingness to embrace imperfec...tions and keep moving forward. Including this bold and dynamic work in the Shire of Mundaring Art Collection honours the investment of this artist in her practice. www.mundaringartscentre.com.au/exhibitions/safe-keeping ID: Photos by Rebecca Mansell show the 5 triangle shaped pieces that make up Sarah Thornton-Smith's 60 Degrees Inside, 2020, gouache on paper, 47 x 47 x 4 cm each and a close up detail of the work.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Bethamy Linton for her work Western Whip Bird (icon), Rare and Vanishing Australian Birds series, 2018 being acquired by the Shire of Mundaring from Safe Keeping. Western Whip Bird displays exquisite artisanship, referencing the loss of natural habitats and bird life across generations. Drawing on traditional religious decorative arts the work allows space to mourn these losses whilst also advocating for renewed investment and dedication for our local e...nvironments. It was a unanimous decision by the panel to acquire this work with Bethamy’s creative practice as a 4th generation silversmith bringing great significance and many layers of history to holding this work within the Shire’s Art Collection. Artist Talks | Safe Keeping Saturday 15 May. Safe Keeping is on display until 30 May. www.mundaringartscentre.com.au/exhibitions/safe-keeping ID: A photo by Rebecca Mansell of Bethamy Linton Western Whip Bird (icon), Rare and Vanishing Australian Birds series, 2018, hand cut titanium, fine and sterling silver, tourmaline, black and white diamonds and gold leaf, giclee print on archival paper. 20.01.2022 Doreen Harris is a Ngaanyatjarra elder and artist. Her boldly coloured paintings reflect on life in station country, where she lived and worked with her husband. "Workers, sheep, horses, dogs and wildflowers burst forth from the deep red ground of her paintings which seem nostalgic and joyful on first glance. However, there are also unsettling details present in Harris paintings. Shifts in perspective and flecks of blood on the bright, white, newly clipped sheep honour the ...harshness of the environment and working conditions. Harriss paintings recognise the often invisible contributions that Indigenous Australians have made in the development of Australias agricultural industries for generations." - Melissa McGrath, Curator Doreen is represented by LLCCA/Laverton Outback Gallery mundaringartscentre.com.au/exhibitions/sheep-show
