16.01.2022 Dame Maud McCarthy's story is an especially inspiring story to celebrate and reflect on this Anzac Day, now more than ever. As International Year Of the Nurse h...as brought us many unexpected scenarios, it has reminded everyone of the upmost importance of supporting and empowering our health professionals. Sydney born nurse, McCarthy was one of the most highly decorated women's leaders of the First World War. When war broke out in South Africa, McCarthy was one of six sisters selected from London Hospital by Princess Alexandra to go to South Africa to tend to wounded soldiers. When she arrived in France in 1914, McCarthy was in charge of some 500 nurses, with a tiny staff. By 1918, McCarthy was in charge of more than 8,000 nurses and volunteers from Britain, Australia, Canada, the Dominions, and America, and was responsible for all nursing operations in the field. She dedicated her life to the provision of exemplary care and was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1918 and later awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal, the highest distinction a nurse can receive. After the war, she served as the Matron in Chief of the Territorial Army Nursing Service and would often be stopped and thanked by grateful soldiers and former patients in the street. Read her story. Lest we forget.

03.01.2022 Today I put my arty hat on & made lanterns for my Anzac Day Dawn Service for in my driveway; have been inspired by all the clever people out there! These were m...ade using 2lt milk cartons & permanent marker pens. I will put sand in the bottom of them to weigh them down on the day, then the tea light candle to light the way! For the pictures all you need to do, if artistically challenged like myself is to get online & pick a simple picture, create your own stencil & place on the inside of the milk carton to trace, then colour in. Pick a different pic for each side if you want! See more
