13.01.2022 Have you heard of Smiling for Smiddy? It truly is an inspirational story. Did you know the Mundubbera Long Table is raising funds to support them! Here's a snippet to spark your interest... In 2006 a 26 year old talented triathlete and respected physiotherapist, Adam Smiddy had the world at his feet when he was diagnosed with melanoma. Within 6 months Adam passed away. To honour Adam, Sharky and two other mates fulfilled one of Adam's unrealised dreams in honour of their f...allen mate - they rode 1600kms from Brisbane to Townsville with nothing but a credit card in their back pockets. They raised $24,000 for cancer research. The following year 22 friends joined the Smiling for Smiddy ride. In 2008, 50 riders took to the road raising $420,000 for cancer research. Smiling for Smiddy is a community committed to fighting cancer in their own unique way raising funds through participating in cycling and triathlon challenge events. They are pedalling, swimming and running across Queensland, Australia and the world to fund research and patient support services for our most common men’s and women’s cancers. Smiling for Smiddy participants share more than just the challenge, they share life-changing experiences of achieving physical feats that may seem impossible, all in the name of taking on cancer. Smiling for Smiddy has raised more than $8 million for vital research at Mater. Yesterday saw the start of this year's Smiddy Challenge. TOMORROW, SATURDAY 25TH AUGUST the riders will start from Nanango and arrive in MUNDUBBERA around 4pm. They are staying at the Three Rivers Tourist Park.
