15.01.2022 Fallen volunteer firefighters honoured on Saturday 10 April 2021 at Naracoorte museum Those who have given their lives defending our communities will be honoure...d at the SA Volunteer Firefighters Museum memorial on 10 April 2021 from 11:00 am. The service, which returns from a Covid-forced hiatus in 2020, is hosted at South Australia’s first memorial to honour volunteer firefighters. Plaques at the memorial commemorate volunteer firefighters who lost their lives in the 1958 Wandilo and 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires. It is a solemn ceremony where we invite a range of guests and members of the public to pay their respect to those who have given their all, chairman of the SA Volunteer Firefighters Museum Rex Hall said. The service includes a flag lowering ceremony carried out by CFS cadets, speeches by invited guests, wreath laying, bag pipers and one-minute silence. Mr Hall said, following the ceremony, guests will be invited to tour the museum, which features a large collection of CFS memorabilia including vehicles, equipment, and uniforms. It’s a great opportunity for people to see the progression the service has made over the years, and how firefighters fought fires in years gone by. It is also a great opportunity for our museum volunteers to share stories and experiences with members and their families, Mr Hall said. The museum is located at 52 Kingston Avenue East, Naracoorte. 08.01.2022 Do you charge your phone, tablet or laptop in or on your bed? SA Metropolitan Fire Service Commander Phil Crossley told ABC’s Sonya Feldhoff they have seen an... increase in fires caused by electronics during the cooler months and wants people to be mindful where they are charging their devices. People do charge their phones, laptop and tablets on their beds or under their pillow. Our recommendation is that these devices get charged on a hard surface that’s not flammable and has an air flow around them as they can generate heat during charging. Having them on the bed or under a doona they don’t have an opportunity to then vent to the surrounding area and can potentially overheat and ignite.
