25.01.2022 For World Environment Day at Mundy Creek, we are celebrating our regeneration work that commenced in earnest in 2012. Here is a selection of images of some of the planting activities that we've done on site between 2012 - 2017. If you want to see the 'after shots', come down to the Mundy Creek Natureway this afternoon from 4 pm, and see our progress. HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY! With Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc , Townsville City Council

24.01.2022 Ah the dulcet tones!

24.01.2022 Car wreck has gone thankfully, but they left behind all the detritus that had fallen off it. Guess we will clean it up tomorrow during our Landcare working bee. And since we don't have any industrial bin access anymore, (the PCYC closed down and took their bin with them), we'll be calling on Council again to collect the trash.

23.01.2022 Yay! Got some help to water and mulch the burnt plantings and also working to safeguard an adjacent planting. Thanks to the Townsville Recovery Service team (Sa...lvos), CDTLI Skilling Queenslanders for Work team and TCC water truck driver Peter. 75 trees gone from the Salvo swales section. Hoping to get some replacements in before October. Time to go begging again! Trees and mulch please! #mundycreeklandcare #mundycreeknatureway #communityinitiatives #cultureofcaring #coastaldrytropics #landcareisforlife #cooperation #workingtogether See more

23.01.2022 Such a great November community Landcare afternoon today at Mundy Creek! Job well done by many (17) wonderful volunteers - including regular landcarers and a busload of peeps from YWAM. We mulched, weeded and collected rubbish from across the site. Thanks so much to everyone who came along and lent a hand. We didn't get pics of everyone because we were too busy but you can see some of our handiwork in the pics. Memorable quote from today: " if you look after nature, it will look after you." Jemilyn community volunteer from PNG.

22.01.2022 We had an awesome turn out this afternoon, with around 45 volunteers and visitors of all ages getting involved in the community Landcare activities!! Together we weeded, mulched, collected rubbish, explored what macro invertebrates were living in the creek water, and caught up with other landcarers and community members. Thanks so much to everyone for an awesome collaborative effort! Thankyou to Brittany and others from Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc, Helen and Megan from Townsville City Council, and all the community members for making it such a successful and productive afternoon!! Thanks to Lions Northern Beaches Club for the BBq and drinks too. Very good!

19.01.2022 Please write to the Council and ask them to a) remove this wreck asap and b) work to safeguard the space! This means that Council needs to seriously consult with CDTLI and the Mundy Creek Catchment Care Group to find a solution to the problem, and then work to action it asap! We have waited for too long for action. Please send your email to: [email protected], and [email protected]

17.01.2022 One of our faves! A Red-backed Wren. This is the resident male, gadding about amongst the riparian plantings.

14.01.2022 We are still working to have the burnt out vehicle removed from our landcare site by Council. It was dumped there 3.5 weeks ago and was first reported the same day. We are now up to Service request number 3. Come on Townsville City Council help us out here please!?

14.01.2022 As predicted, the grasslands were sparked last night and the northern section from east to west has burned. These pics were taken about 12.30am from my back fence. Another fire (the third in less than 24 hours) was lit this morning close to the creek, north of our site. The flames moved through that weedy section pretty quickly with the gusting, morning easterly behind it. It looked to be threatening the Salvos rehab but the fireys got it under control. I hope that's it for a few weeks at least, so that there is some ground cover left for local animal species to use for habitat.

13.01.2022 Our annual rubbish collection walk from Garbutt to Rowes Bay with the Heatley High crew went well on Friday morning. It took us three hours to complete. We gathered two wheelbarrow loads of trash + documented any trash that we couldn't carry it, so that we can report it to Council for removal. And we found a massive patch of cherry tomatoes growing in a drain along the way. Thanks team!!

12.01.2022 Thank you so much Qld Fire & Emergency Services for responding so quickly to extinguish the fire on our site last tonight. The community salutes you! https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx

12.01.2022 This morning on site. Working with Biodiversity Australia team members Jesse and Charlee to remove weeds from the grassland and from amongst the northern planting area. The pollinators plantings are doing their thing with first time flowering on some of the trees. Plenty of life around there after the rain.

12.01.2022 I had a great morning working with the teachers and students from Heatley Secondary School's Lifeskills Program yesterday. We weeded amongst the northern planting section (bagging up the weeds with seeds) and started mulching around the trees. Steady steady - more work to do there. They'll be back to work with me next week too. Thanks team! Cheers, Bern

10.01.2022 Thank you to the Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) team for your work in clearing firebreaks, weeding, watering and mulching on site! Really appreciate your work team!

09.01.2022 Working with the Salvos crew tomorrow ( Thursday 3.9.20) to spread mulch around the burnt out plantings. Starting 8.30, through to about 10.30 am, if any of our regular volunteers want to join in and lend a hand, come on down! Anyone else, please wear protective clothing and maybe let us know via message here, in case I need to bring extra gloves. Cheers, Bern

09.01.2022 Fires number 4,5,6 for the weekend obviously deliberately set. We came across freshly lit patches of grass along the track at about 6.30pm, when we were driving south along the track to check out last night's burn. We also spoke with three people who were walking ahead of us along the track. They didn't know anything about the fires growing behind them ... Thank goodness for the fireys again, who put it out before the flames reached our mulch piles and plantings.

07.01.2022 Our Community Landcare afternoon is on this Saturday 3 October from 4 - 6 pm. You will find us along the path of the natureway. Look out for people with wheelbarrows! Parking is most convenient at the eastern end of Lockheed Street, Garbutt.

07.01.2022 This afternoon! We have fruit and cold drinks for volunteers! See you down the creek

06.01.2022 Bloomin' resilient

03.01.2022 Such an amazing effort today from the marvellous Mundy Creek Landcare volunteers! It was hard and dirty work and there was lots of smoke in the air today, so hazy / dry conditions. Luckily the wind dropped around 4pm, which made it possible to do the tasks that needed doing. Two new volunteers Colin and Hope did a great job of collecting, sorting and bagging up the car wreckage debris (a massive task!). We achieved a lot together over 2.5 hours, including chipping out plenty ...of Sabi grass tufts from that section of plantings.. Thanks too, to Chris and Astrid who did an amazing job of mulching around the trees in the pollinator planting area and all the way up to the burnt section. Thanks to Pete who came later and collected all the trash and transported it (a ute load full) to the end of Lockheed Street. And thanks to Jess, who kept working on her long term maintenance task of removing seeding weeds from the site. Love ya work! Cheers, Bern See more
