19.01.2022 Day 1 of the resumption of our Youth Group for 2021. What an eventful day it was. We rode over 21 kilometers down Mt Buffalo. We learnt about the migration habits of the Bogong Moth and how important this was for many mobs in the region. We also checked out some of the most amazing views in Australia, cooked up some lunch and went for a swim downstream from Eurobin falls. It was a great day had by all. Have a read below about what we learnt about the Bogong Moth migration th...at still occurs every year: Bogong moths were used as a food source by many mobs located in Southeastern Australia. Mobs would travel to the summits of the mountains in the spring months to harvest some of the 4.4 billion moths that migrate to the mountains every year. There they would meet with other other mobs and shared stories as people gathered and feasted during these harvests. People would travel into the caves and scrape moths off the walls into nets and dishes using sticks. Once gathered, the moths would be roasted to remove the scales and wings and then either eaten immediately or ground into a paste and made into "moth meat" cakes that would last and could be taken home. The moth was said to have a nice nutty flavor that was most similar to walnuts or almonds. The Bogong moth is an icon of Australian wildlife due to this historical role as an important food source and as an intertribal gathering point for different mobs in Southeastern Australia.

13.01.2022 Day 4 of our Youth Group heading out on the the Boys to the Bush Program, run by Johnny Murray. A big thank you to Uncle Sam for sharing his wisdom and knowledge with our youth. Have a read below to see what adventures we got up to! Today was an all-cultural experience out on country with Uncle Sam from the Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS). Uncle Sam is an Archaeologist and Anthropologist who spent the day sharing his knowledge and taking us to several cultur...al sites around Walla Walla, Balldale, Howlong and Albury. We visited several Scarred Trees and birthing trees which remain in place today. We also looked at, held and discovered scatters of Aboriginal artefacts which is undeniable evidence of the first nation people who inhabited this area prior to settlement. The boys involved now have a different view on how they look at country and will walk more attentively through the bush from now on. See more

03.01.2022 Albury Wodonga Health is proud to have introduced an Indigenous cultural kit to its service offerings, making the Wodonga maternity ward more inclusive for Indi...genous women. The kit includes essential oils, ochre, photos of birthing trees, and paintings, pillowcases, and blankets featuring artwork by Barkindji/Maraura/Yorta Yorta woman Tamara Murray (Mara May Art). The kit was developed in partnership with the Koori Maternity Service and Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation, who provide access to holistic, culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal women and their families during pregnancy.
