If youre a fan of Temprenillo then get your chops around this. From the Strathbogie Ranges near Bonnie Doon, ah the serenity, @municipalwines produce this Tempranillo and a Reserve. Firstly, this is a beaut of a wine. Ruby and garnet in colour, complex brambly, pomegranate and earthy aromas with hints of mushrooms... interesting. ...The Zalto captures it so well, smell, sip, wait, repeat and it evolves each time. The palate has powdery tannin, pomegranate again, spices and plums, with sherry notes adding complexity. It intrigues brilliantly. 25.01.2022 A beautiful day day in the Home Vineyard. The Cabernet Franc vines are happy, healthy and growing quickly. Its amazing that these vines haven't been sprayed at all in over 5 years!

23.01.2022 Matt's back in China again consulting for another vintage. A new vineyard site is being prepared for planting, very different from your typical vineyard as the vines in this region of China need to be buried in winter due to the freezing temperatures.

21.01.2022 Some new and very special Municipal Wines warming in the sun. Skin contact Riesling, Savagnin and Pinot Gris rose (all with various numbers of days on skins) finishing fermentation in barrel. These are wines I'm very happy to taste each day! Then time to warm myself by the fire at night.

19.01.2022 The 2021 vintage is off and running with the No Intervention Cabernet Franc harvested Monday and Tuesday this week. This vineyard hasn't been sprayed at all in over 8 years and the fruit looks fantastic even in a cool wet year. IT CAN BE DONE!

The 2015 No Intervention Home Vineyard Shiraz delivers everything I love in a wine. The right level of complexity to make you stop, think, smile widely, and sip again. - -... It opens with complex aromas of spices, pepper, blackberries squashed with violets and stems. The medium body, full of blackberry, plum, Xmas spices, and gentle vanilla expands across the palate with tight acidity and grainy tannins adding great structure. Sydney in November is simply stunning and its a very similar story with my recent find, Municipal Wines Home Vineyard Shiraz. This wine comes from the Strathbogie Ranges where Matt Froude, the Winemaker, applies a minimal intervention approach to managing the vineyard. The Shiraz vineyard is dry grown, unpruned but managed, and hasnt seen a chemical for over 3... years. I absolutely love this approach to winemaking. - - - The wine itself is a 12.7% medium bodied ballet of flavour. Perhaps more Syrah in style than that of a traditional Aussie Shiraz, which is no bad thing at all. Dark plum fruit flavours intermingled with raspberry and hints of violets on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with bright acidity, dark fruit flavours, aromatic spices and soft woody notes. Its a seriously enjoyable wine to drink with a real sense of purpose and place. 10.01.2022 Great review from @wine_searcher Too late for Christmas but still a great drop for the extended festive season. Xmas eve drop, Municipal Wines Reserve Tempranillo. Opens with a beautifully complex nose of dark cherries, cinnamon, cloves, dried figs and cherry casks. The palate, medium bodied and polished shows reduced cherry-cola and exotic spices intertwined with forest floor and fresh cigars. Its a stunning wine, cant recommend it highly enough. 10.01.2022 Two of the best Cabernet Franc wines you will find. Grace (Yamanashi Japan) 2013 and 2014 Cabernet Franc. Amazing purity and varietal expression. It was a real privilege to do a vintage there back in 2015 and see the work that goes into making these wonderful wines.

08.01.2022 It was great to be a part of the Young Gun of Wine top 50 tasting events last week, and wonderful to get such positive feedback. You know your on the right track when attendees tell you that they have heard great things about your wines and can't wait to taste them. I'm not very photogenic but the Cabernets (shown at the tasting events) looks great wearing the @goatbeer YGOW Top 50 medallion.
07.01.2022 Fresh (pressed today) nigori sake at Matsuse sake brewery. First sake pressed for the season, this sake is released for only two weeks a year. I'm not usually one for Nigori (cloudy sake) but when it's this fresh it's amazing!

06.01.2022 Matt's over in Japan learning more about sake. 1st stop Fukubijin sake brewery in Saijo. Saijo is a beautiful small town in Hiroshima prefecture with 8 sake breweries within 10 minutes walk of each other making some of Japan's best sake.
