25.01.2022 Our wonderful Local Ambulance Committees (LACs) around the state do amazing work within their communities to teach First Aid, CPR and AED awareness training. Th...ey volunteer their time to ensure their own skills are up to date, so they can take their learnings into the communities in which they reside. With 'Restart a Heart Day' coming up this Friday - we want to give a special mention to the great work that all of our Local Ambulance Committees do in teaching people the important life-saving skill of CPR. Give a shout out in the comments to the LAC members that have had a positive impact in your community! https://bookings.qld.gov.au/services/firstaid/
25.01.2022 We are so proud to announce that three Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics are recipients of the prestigious Ambulance Service Medal (ASM) in the Australia ...Day 2021 Honours List. Gary Cotterill has been a paramedic for 42 years commencing his career in 1979 at the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade (QATB) in Brisbane. Upon being made aware of his nomination and subsequent ASM award, Gary said it made him extremely proud to be a QAS paramedic. I was stunned. As it slowly dawned on me, I realised I’m in some exceptionally esteemed company here. Officer Gene Curtis is a Bowen local and has served in the QAS for more than four decades, commencing as an Honorary Ambulance Officer with the QATB in Cloncurry in 1979. Gene said ‘it was a desire to help my fellow man’ that has encouraged him to get up and put the teal uniform on for nearly 42 years of his life. Paramedic Julie Calvert has diligently served the Brisbane community for more than 32 years. She commenced her operational career with the QAS in 1989 as an Ambulance Officer and currently resides at Cleveland in Brisbane’s Metro South region. To be recognised and appreciated and actually receiving an award for doing something that I really enjoy, it feels really good, Julie said. QAS Commissioner Russell Bowles said the QAS was extremely proud of their ASM recipients for 2021 and all their achievements. With 116 years of service between Gary, Gene and Julie, it is no wonder the QAS is held in such high regard, Commissioner Bowles said. All three officers are very well-respected by their peers and their communities and have shown outstanding commitment, dedication and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to people’s lives. A huge congratulations to Gary, Gene and Julie on their ASM awards, from your QAS family.
24.01.2022 In remembrance of our fallen police officers, on the eve of National Police Remembrance Day. To our mates - for your dedication, your bravery, your commitment to serving your community and us, and in your honour - we remember you. #NPRD2020 Queensland Police Service
23.01.2022 Congratulations to Imogen Farrawell, Imogen Harvey and Ty Martens who are the latest recipients of the QAS School Based Scholarship, part of the broader QAS Ind...igenous Scholarship Program. The QAS School Based Scholarship, which was introduced last year, provides Grade 11 and 12 Indigenous students support to assist with completing school and transitioning to work and/or university. Up to ten QAS School Based Scholarships are awarded per year across Queensland and recipients are provided with financial support and access to a range of mentoring and career coaching. Imogen, Imogen and Ty, who are planning on studying either medicine, law or paramedicine, were presented with their certificates by QAS Assistant Commissioner Peter Warrener during a ceremony at Australian Catholic University today. Seven more students will be awarded the QAS School Based Scholarship in the coming weeks. The QAS, in partnership with the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation, is proud to offer this scholarship and looks forward to hearing about the progress of these worth recipients as they pursue their dreams.
21.01.2022 It is always exciting to receive donations. Murgon LAC has received two donations of money, in recent weeks, for which we are extremely grateful. The latest donation, however is particularly heart-warming 16 hand-knitted trauma teddies, from a visitor to our area. Betty and her husband travel extensively and, while travelling, Betty knits. ... The result is colourful, soft toys that would delight any child particularly one who is sick or hurt. Betty says it is: a way of saying thank you to the communities and bring some pleasure to children in time of need. (You’ve also brought pleasure to some paramedics.) Thank you, Betty! Thank you Steve for posing with some of the Trauma Teddies.
21.01.2022 Congratulations. Well done.
20.01.2022 Working in small communities like Toogoolawah and Esk often means we need help from our mates at the Queensland Police Service. Toogoolawah paramedics Tanya Kin...g and Andrew Borg spent the morning getting the local QPS officers familiarised with our gear so they are ready to help out when we need their assistance. Thanks for having our backs, QPS! See more

19.01.2022 This is NOT a political ad. It's about CPR which our Local Committee is very passionate about. Worth a listen.

13.01.2022 Attached are some photos of the HoverMatt and HoverJack taken today during the first lot of training. They worked perfectly and are going to be a wonderful operational asset for our Ambos and the greater South Burnett. Our Ambos are extremely thankful to our Committee for obtaining these very valuable items for them.

10.01.2022 Featuring #OntheFrontline this week is Pete, who commenced with QAS at Mount Gravatt Station in 1999. Prior to joining QAS he spent three years working as a vo...lunteer in the Pacific Islands. This roused his interest in paramedicine having to assist with trauma on a regular basis. In 2003 after completing his three-year studentship he took a one-year transfer to Charleville. That one year turned into 17 years of a rural and remote adventure. He has seen mother nature at her best and worst, from drought and flooding rain to fire. After going through two major flooding events in Charleville, Pete decided a change was in order. November 2010 saw Pete transfer to Mitchell Station, only to be witness to the 2011 major flooding. Three quarters of Mitchell’s township was affected including the station, which had a foot of water go through it. Not discouraged he stayed until November 2016 when he decided to have a break from QAS and moved to his partners cattle property south of Roma to try his hand at station life. However, once it is in your blood you can’t stay away. On September 2019 he returned to the QAS in a casual capacity and now works out of Roma Station as an Advanced Care Paramedic. Being a country paramedic is challenging but also very rewarding and an adventure well worth taking.
10.01.2022 Congratulations Bob, our LAC Vice President, on your award. Pictured with Bob is his wife Kerry who is our Secretary.
09.01.2022 We would like to introduce Em, our Acting OIC since approximately April. She studied at the University of the Sunshine Coast to become a Paramedic. She has always enjoyed the dynamic nature of emergency services, and takes great pride in being able to help people during their worst moments. During the last ten years she have worked for the QAS as an Advanced Care Paramedic in the Sunshine Coast and Darling Downs LASNs, joining the Darling Downs in 2017. Since 2018 she has... been performing Higher Duties as an A/OIC and has worked in Wandoan, Millmerran, Kingaroy, and now Murgon. Murgon has provided her with fantastic staff, a wonderful LAC(thanks Em), and great stakeholder and community relations and cultural insight, and is extremely grateful to be a part of this team. Em really enjoys the OIC role and plans to pursue this managerial pathway, assisted by a law degree that she is also studying full time (two years down, and two to go). Em always has a smile and a kind word for you when we call into the Station.
08.01.2022 Hey, Queenslanders! Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to learn CPR in time for 'Restart A Heart Day' this Friday, 16 October. No pressure (well, ma...ybe just a little), but it's an easy skill to learn and you could save someone's life! Only 1 in 10 people that suffer a cardiac arrest survive and you could have an impact on that statistic by learning the steps 'Call, Push, Shock' to restart a heart. Visit https://restartaheart.net/ for more information.

06.01.2022 Last night our Committee had the pleasure of attending a barbecue at the Murgon Station. Our paramedics wanted to say thank you for everything we have done for them this past year. It is a pleasure to do what we can for our people.
