23.01.2022 How wonderful! Going through our collection we were reminded of this gem: The card appears as part of suffrage themed game that was the brainchild of Naomi Paxton. You can learn more about the backstory to the game's creation on her website (click here). Muriel appears alongside other members of the British suffrage movement like Christabel Pankhurst and Emmeline Pethick Lawrence. What a fun way to learn about women's history! http://murielmatterssociety.com.au//the-high-flyer-a-muri/

20.01.2022 Here’s an article about Muriel published on this day in 1909 by the Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser. 18.01.2022 With ANZAC Day approaching we start to remind ourselves of those men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices for the safety and wellbeing of all Australians. One of those people who paid the ultimate price in World War I was a younger brother of Muriel Matters named Charles Adams Matters. Charles was born in Port Augusta on 28 October 1885 to John Leonard Matters and Emma Alma Matters (née Warburton). [ 361 more words ] http://murielmatterssociety.com.au//in-remembrance-charle/

14.01.2022 V.Irene.Cockroft, London, 22 April 2020 Such a desirable doll as Dora, the veteran Votes for Women campaigner preserved in a custom-made glass case, was bound to attract attention when she turned up at an Adelaide auction in March 2020. When, against stiff competition, Dora was acquired by The Muriel Matters Society Inc., one could sense the glass misting from her sigh of satisfaction. 10.01.2022 The recent pandemic has given many people interested in suffrage history pause to look back at the Spanish Flu of 1918 to 1920 to see how it impacted upon the women’s movement. Even though some places in the world had granted women the right to vote by the time that pandemic hit think of South Australia in 1894 - women in other jurisdictions around the world were not so fortunate. 03.01.2022 Leon Trotsky was considered, in 1922 at least, to be the second most powerful man in the Soviet Union when he chanced upon the name 'Violet Tillard' in the obituaries of a local newspaper. In a speech delivered in March 1922 he invoked Tillard's ‘humanity and inner nobility’ at a time of profound suffering when a vicious famine was stalking millions of Russians.
